Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    Wow.  On Wow.  And more Wow.  

Aries New Moon

Fire

Every year there is an Aries new moon.  Great.  Got it.   Eclipses are tied to points in the sky that are called north and south nodes.   Last year the north node moved into Aries.  Okay, more Aries, got it.  In 2017 Chiron moved into Aries where it is until 2027 and this year the new moon is near the north node and on Chiron.  So that is Aries +Aries + Aries.   Okay, more got it.  And that does not include any other planets in Aries which this new moon has Mercury in Aries.    Together we say, “Wow, that’s a lot of Aries”.    This is by any measure a very potent new moon.  Issues around independency and self-agency will be pronounced.   Fire signs are action oriented.  Aries the first sign of the zodiac and the first fire sign is not prone to sit around and wait for others to do something.  Aries understands the power of tapping independence.    This 29-day cycle will be long on forging and finding a way through any obstacle, but it must always be motivated by tapping the authenticity that we carry inside us.   The real inside us craves to be the reality that is in front of us.   

Treasure Mapping 

Of course, this is the new moon where we build vision boards and make our Treasure Maps .  The Aries New Moon which launches the  Zodiacal Lunar Year has a lot of power.   By tapping this energy, the astrological wave will carry us the whole year.  Vision boards made at other times can have successes.  But when we make our boards on Aries new moon they are juiced up and are our Treasure Maps.   At Aries we are willing to ask, “What do I want?”, “What do I need?”  “What do I want to experience?”   The emphasis is on “me”.   In Aries we give ourselves permission to show up for me.  Aries understands the importance of personal identity.   Who am I?  When we make our maps on this new moon we are telling the universe, I hear you, I trust you and you hear me, so let’s do this together.   It is a powerful process.  We will usually start seeing manifestation from our map by Cancer New Moon in July. 

There are some Astro influences this year that suggest that we benefit by taking our time with our map.   This is not the map to rush.  The eclipse is so potent that we may want to wait a bit before constructing the map.  We can meditate, we can download images or cut out some from magazines but the actual gluing and committing, suggest taking our time.  Connect inward ask yourself what you want but also give yourself the wiggle room to pivot. Think about it the next day or two.  Does that image feel right? Is the affirmation correct?   Also, any sparks or anger that comes up may speak to something missing in your life.   Perhaps a solution needs a place on your map?  Again, take your time.   You can make your map between April 8, 11:20am PDT – April 23, 4:48pm PDT.   Once the full moon launches, the window for treasure mapping has closed.  If you have not made a moon by the full moon skip it.  Next year will be there for you.   Whatever you do have a good treasure mapping! 

The Great North American Total Eclipse

Obviously, this Aries new moon has gotten the world’s attention.   The Great North American Eclipse begins in Mazatlán and ends in Newfoundland.     The number of total eclipses in North America are small.   Some cities had more than others, New England towns have had a few but the last time a total eclipse crossed NYC was 1925.   In Los Angeles it was 1724 and the next one in LA will be April 1, 3290.   The last eclipse to hit Tucson was 797.  Going forward, there will be some eclipses that will have partial paths, but April 8 is the last total eclipse to cross the USA until 2045.   Can you feel that fact and the potency? 

On the mundane level, in June of 1918, the final year of WW1, a total eclipse crossed the USA. Of course, the USA came out of WW1 as a world power and no longer in the shadow of European countries.   It would be 99 years before the next eclipse in 2017 would roll across the USA.   At that time Donald Trump was President and arguably the role of the USA in world matters was being questioned both within and outside of the USA.  It was a defining year .   Now at this eclipse we are once again seeing the role of the USA in foreign affairs.  Ukraine, Israel, NATO, Russia, Taiwan, China; the USA has lots of irons in the fire.  Also, there is the fact that this eclipse will go over the southern border between the US and Mexico.  All of this deepens the question: What will be the USA’s international role?  Is it changing?   

Also, eclipses impact the whole world not just the area with the path.   Issues and themes that come up around the eclipse can be in any country.   The news will reveal some themes no doubt.  

Eclipse patters are in two-year cycles that are tied as mentioned above to the nodes.  These patterns repeat every eighteen years.    We are in The Aries/Libra cycle.

The themes we are working out through Aries may ping back and forth through these eclipse dates.  As discussed in previous reports, the attack by Hamas in Israel is tied to the second solar eclipse.   The recent lunar eclipse on March 25 had attacks in Moscow and Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.  Also, the Frances Scott Key bridge collapsed at the eclipse.       It is possible some of those themes will be revisited and intensified around April 8.   Our final eclipse in the Aries cycle will be in March 2025 after that point we will be fully engulfed in the next eclipse cycle which will be Pisces and Virgo, which is a way different energy than what we are in now.   

On a personal level, this eclipse is happening somewhere in your chart.   Consider the house where you have Aries.   Did you start to see something come up last year on April 19^th that speaks to the nature of that house?    How did the role of independence pop up?  Those themes may repeat at this eclipse.    Also, look to see any planets you have at 19/20 degrees especially Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn.   There could be tension on that planet.  It might feel like a crisis but how does the answer involve a more authentic you?   There may be double downing in some way but at the same time cutting losses and moving on in other ways.   The gift of the new moon in Aries is that it is not prone to just staying stuck and resentful, instead it wants to hack through and move on.  Aries is always action oriented.   You may want to think back to spring of 2004, 2005 and 2006 and fall of 2004 and 2005.   That was the last time the eclipses were in Aries/Libra.  Are there any themes around independence and going your own way or where you needed to bring some fire?     We may be there again in some manner this eclipse.   What have you learned in the last eighteen years and how does it inform your response?   The difference between that eclipse cycle and this cycle is that we have Chiron in the mix asking for a healing.  It may be clumsy, but we learn through it and we learn through others as they too are clumsy-ing their way through it.  

The Aries New Moon Chart 

Underneath the eclipse is the chart for the Aries New Moon and 29-day lunar month.  On one hand all the Aries suggests, ‘Let’s go for it’  “Let’s get our butts in gear and get out there.’   But on the other hand, there is a slowdown suggesting, ‘hmm let’s wait a bit’ ‘let’s take a beat’ It is a cycle of one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake.  

The gas comes from Venus, North Node, Moon, Sun, Chiron, and Mercury in Aries.   The brakes are Mars Saturn in conjunction which is exact on April 11.  

There is no question that this 29-day lunar month is feisty.   On a good day, Mercury in Aries can be a solid brawler, having it retrograde in Aries, so close to an eclipse suggests fighting words most of the lunar month.  The retrograde started on April 1 so by the time we get to the new moon we probably have already noted the value in following the usual retrograde protocols.   Build your schedule with more time.   Try not to rush.   Think before you speak (if that is possible given Aries is so fiery).   Read everything twice.   Sure, everyone would like to wait before big purchases until after the retrograde but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  Just read the fine print and ask a lot of questions.   

 The rhetoric in news could be quite strident.  Words of war may be difficult to ignore.  And difficult to take back.    On a personal level, any anger that comes up, could be harsh.  Take a moment to drill down and consider what is underneath the anger?   Does it speak to an issue you may have been ignoring for a long time?   The Libra south node can lean into peace-at-any-cost which may be, as you reflect on it, past its prime.  Perhaps there is some passive aggressiveness either by you or people around you that is no longer acceptable.   

Maybe the Aries north node is bringing up issues that need our attention and a good old fire can burn it off.    Fire is an antiseptic that is there for us to tap.   Of course, before any raging, consider taking a beat and make sure you are up for any repercussions.   You could be so tired of being tired that you just must speak your truth. 

Sun and Moon conjunct Chiron 

The clear punch to this chart is the conjunction between the sun moon and Chiron.  Yep.  Not even a question.    Chiron is a planetoid discovered in the 1970s and is associated with a needed healing.   When it was discovered, Chiron was in Aries.   It takes about 50 years to travel around the zodiac and in 2018 Chiron returned to Aries where it will be until 2027.   Once Chiron ingress into Aries we went into potential zone of Aries new moon conjunctions.    On March 25, 2020, and April 1, 2022, which were Aries new moons, they were within one degree of Chiron.   Now on this new moon, the sun and moon are exactly on top of Chiron.  Not one degree or two degrees close to the sun and moon, exactly to the minute of the arc, 19 Aries 24.    This is another reason where we say, “Wow”.   

What does this mean for the world?  First, any issue that comes up is not limited to the date of April 8.   Any themes or patterns or big eye-catching events can be tied around the eclipse date.    Second, as discussed above, the Aries Chiron is helping point out the importance of independence and self-agency.   On the March 2020 eclipse we had just begun the world shut down due to Covid.   There was an entire cottage industry born around the topic of people who did not want their independence thwarted in any manner.  For some people they may have paid a price.   Others found their way to still tap creativity, self-expression and healing even in a lockdown.   Lessons of independence and self-agency was there for all to see.  Then at the April 2022 eclipse the topic in the news was the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.    A sovereign independent nation coveted so greatly that it was attacked.  This Ukraine story of self-agency is still in the news.   We may see some movement in Ukraine around the new moon.   Or perhaps there will be another skirmish that gets ignited.  But curiously, if you go back to April 11, 1975, we find an Aries New Moon on Chiron with a two degrees orb and that month the USA pulled out of Saigon and the war in Vietnam ended.  Lots of themes to watch for in the news this 29-day cycle that speaks to independence and self-agency.  

So, we have the eclipse and north node pointing out the importance of self-agency and independence and now we also have Chiron.  Something will no doubt be stoked in our personal lives.  In some manner we will see or feel how it is not good enough to rely on others, we must get up and take care of self and perhaps in doing it we bring out the self-agency in others.   No one will get it perfect, but we learn from any mistakes we make or see others mistakes.  We will learn from each other as we fight our own righteous fight and tap personal power and amplify our identity.    

Mars conjunction Saturn

14 Pisces 41

Mars the relentless warrior tangles up with Saturn every two years.     A conjunction between these planets can be very productive.  Mars likes to work and so does Saturn.  Although, Saturn prefers the role of boss over Mars.   Mars is a solid warrior and in Pisces he is still his pushy self, but it looks and feels different.   He can be a warrior for peace.  Which of course is funny.   How can we be a warrior for peace?  That conundrum could manifest through a cause.   Around April 10, look to see what events get our attention.  It could be something that taps faith, spirituality, intuition, creativity, humanitarianism and all the things that rumble in our psyche.  If something seems wrong, Saturn will point it out and Mars will say, “Let me fix it”.  It might be a kinder, more muted Mars but there is still action.  

On a personal level, if our plans seem to fall apart, consider that the timing is not right, and Saturn knows why.   Trusting the process of Saturn’s divine timing could be hard but having Mars there suggests we do it anyway.  

In March of 2023 Saturn began its trek in Pisces where it will be until 2025.  When Saturn moves into a sign, the first thing it says is, “Let’s clean up this joint.”  Saturn who loves to construct can be very effective in Pisces.   Dreaming something and then putting those dreams into concrete results is the difference provided by Saturn in Pisces.   Neptune the ruler of Pisces continues to trek in Pisces dissolving boundaries.  Now with Saturn and Mars, there could be skirmishes as everyone tries to figure out who belongs where.   Pisces is associated with the arts, in particular, music, films, and dance.   The Mars Saturn conjunction is a fabulous aspect to work on a creative project.  The legendary reclusive, hide-from-the-world Pisces is also speaking to Saturn.   The need for good old fashion, Saturn breaks, may have become more apparent in the last year.   Going in the bedroom and getting lost in a movie can be the needed respite for many of us.  Or leaving the house and going to a beach or park and walking in nature is a good Saturn break.    Additionally, some people have possibly been picking up on the darker moods of Pisces which includes depression, ennui, and delusion.  If you feel drawn to extreme feelings or chaotic actions, remember that Pisces gains strength by focusing on grey not black and white.   Invite in grey.  Meditate on the space that is not extreme. Find the gentle.  There will be many people reaching out for therapy or support during Saturn’s trek in Pisces.  Many will also deepen their spiritual practices with Mars Saturn in conjunction.   

Starting on April 10 we begin the Mars and Saturn two-year cycle. You may launch something around the conjunction or maybe something shows up.   Watch the following dates to see if there is movement that speaks to the actions started around April 10.

Arguably, the most celebrated aspect of the year and one of the highlights of the decade is the Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in Taurus on April 20.   It’s juicy and good.    There could be something full of solid pragmaticism that rolls into the world or in personal lives that has all of us saying, “Wow”.    These could be opportunities that are not on anyone’s radar.  It could be weird and brilliant (Uranus) it could be foreign (Jupiter) but it has solid practical (Taurus) application.   I say, how about a solid solar power car!  Whatever it is expect something big.    

Speaking of big, a bit of caution. Jupiter can be mega big and super righteous and Uranus can be a rebel without a cause.   There may be examples in the news of extreme opinions, that are just outrageously strange.   Hopefully the calmness of Taurus will soften the extreme wackiness.   Putting all that aside there will be some solid opportunities that some people will run with and find rewarding.   Let’s all go out and buy a lottery ticket.  Anyone with planets near 21 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel the aspect.  Remember if you are too rigid about anything you may feel the need to crack the rigidity and stubbornness to benefit from process.       A lightning bolt of genius could pop up in personal landscape.   

Sun/Moon Semi sextile Jupiter and Uranus. 

This is a smaller aspect in the new moon chart and is very similar to the conjunction on the 20^th.   Sun Moon form semi sextile with Jupiter and Uranus.   We see the theme of pivoting quick and moving from our fiery nature to our cool earthy practical nature.   Shifting from Fire to earth will be helpful.   The desire to lean into freedom impulses provided by Uranus will be strong and we may be more open to things that are ‘foreign’ or odd, again tappin Jupiter.  We feel our power, get fired up and then pivot to get pragmatic results.  Then we repeat the process again.  We could feel the pattern all 29 days of this lunar cycle.     

Mercury 

As already discussed, the Aries lunar month spends half of the time with Mercury in Aries retrograde.   How will we respond when we hear ‘fightin’ words’?   Or how will others respond if we have the sharp tongue?    Mercury retrogrades for all their pain in the ass-ness are reminders to take a moment.  Perhaps Mercury in Aries reminds us there may be a place to tap the mind and mouth of our inner warrior.  

The last time Mercury retrograded in Aries was spring of 2018, 2017, 2012 and spring of 2011.  You may want to consider what was going on at those times for a possible revisit of themes. 

As always, we double check all our lists.  If we are traveling, we make sure our flights and travel arrangements are locked.    Those people who run with super tight daily schedules may want to put in more time and wiggle room in the event of glitches or traffic.    

The mercury shadow starts on March 18 and ends on May 13 so we could see things pop up before the retrograde, intensify during the retrograde and then work its way out by the end of the shadow.

By the time Mercury stations direct on April 25, we will probably be feeling a lot less angry and mouthy.   What we learned this retrograde will be helpful on connecting to our authentic nature for 2024.   If we have been hanging out in old thinking that we are this person or that person, we may have outgrown it.   Once Mercury turns direct reflect on what you have learned this cycle and how it connects to a more honest you.

2043 – Pluto exit Aquarius 

The dance with Pluto continues as it ping-pongs between Aquarius and Capricorn.   Last year Pluto was in Aquarius between March 23 and June 11^th, and it spent the rest of 2023 in Capricorn.   This year on January 20, Pluto re-entered Aquarius.

Now it turns retrograde on May 2 and will back track over any new ground it covered since January.  It will go from 2 degrees 06 until on September 3 it moves back into Capricorn.   Once in Capricorn it will tie up any lose ends on the journey it started in 2008.   Then on October 11 it will turn direct and finally on November 19 it will return to Aquarius where it will be for the next twenty years.   Since January we have gotten a taste of our future.  The chip in the brain that was announced in January, the battle with TikTok, the fear of AI and always the UFOs.   It’s all a tiny appetizer.  Once the retrograde starts we will ponder a lot about where our world is heading.  New versus old then old versus new, there is so much to contemplate in the Aquarius versus Capricorn landscape.  However, never lose sight that Saturn is the original ruling planet of both Capricorn and Aquarius.   So somewhere in all the mess, is Saturn and his divine timing.   

As always, we are well served to watch any aspects planets make with Pluto as we start to figure out what will be this very long 20-year journey.   In this 29 day cycle we have three hits with Pluto: 

4/21 : Sun square Pluto 2 Aquarius 05.  The first square between the Sun in Taurus.   How is the rigidity and stability of Taurus in need of new novelty, ingenuity?   How does it connect to the groups in our life?

4/30 : Venus square Pluto 2 Aquarius 06.  Love that feels dead may need to be booted or re-booted.  Rebirth of Love. 

5/3 : Mars sextile Pluto.  Actions for self are motivated by input from groups and friends.   Power to get up and do is strong.  Especially if it transformative and involves friends.   

In conclusion, this New Moon is probably the most important new moon of the year.   North node, Chiron, the eclipse, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus they are all in the mix.    All of it speaks to breakthroughs and breakouts, being able to pivot, taking breaks and knowing when to apply the gas and the brakes.    And it all begins by tapping our source finding our self-agency and willing to be authentic.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more results.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:    What are my needs?  What do I want?  How am I the best agent for my world?  Where do I need independence?  What fire am I bringing to my life?  How am I informing myself as I show a willingness to tap my authenticity?

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your communication style? What are you learning about the way you move through your neighborhood?  What are you learning about what you consume for news?   What are you learning about your siblings?

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:   What actions that you started on new moon reconnect with your emotions now?   How do you navigate needs that speak to your independence and the needs that connect to your family?   What actions are you doing that impact your home?

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your schedule?  How are you refining your daily activities?  How are you refining your diet and better health routines?   What are you learning about your health matters and how does it impact actions you planted on Aries new moon?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us. There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:   What is going on our ability to let go and feel rebirth?   What needs to die so that something new can be born?

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. What actions are you taking that support your goals on the new moon that benefit by groups and friends?  How are your friends in alignment with your personal goals?   How are you in alignment with friends and group goals?  Where does new technology impact your goals you planted on new moon?
