Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about   Your heart is weird and authentic, take this 29 days to find it.

Welcome to Leo New Moon

Leo is the second fire sign of the zodiac.  In the first fire sign, Aries, a flame is white hot, igniting everything it touches.  Now in Leo, the flame is intense but harnessed. Like a bonfire on a beach, it can be seen for miles on or offshore.   This is the fire where cook a meal, where we warm our bodies and our soul.   We find our comfort inside and outside.   The flame in our body is strong, it is passionate, it is bold.  Of course, Leo rules our heart.    

In Leo, we look for what gets our blood going.  What pumps us up?  We take a moment and consider our talents and our gifts.    We ponder that perhaps inside us is something that is special and unique to only us.  In the land of selfies and an over exposure of navel gazing it is hard to figure out who or what needs celebrating when it seems social media is nothing but everyone throwing a party for every little thing.   “Look at my dish of food, isn’t it fabulous?”   When everything is special than how is any one thing special?   The answer is in Leo.   There is a space for specialness.  There is a space for unique voice.  Leo says to  check in with our heart.  Find the heart beats that speak to our authenticity.  

Leo is brave, creative, strong, joyful, playful, theatrical and dramatic.   It is best when it is loving.  Fierce.  Protective.  When Leo is on your side, you feel safe.    The powerful Leo flows from a deep knowing of what it does best.   It is not egotistic it is just, “Yeah, this is my jam. I got it”.  

When Leo misbehaves is when it feels lost or disconnected from its power and is missing love including self-love.    A disconnected Leo can be resentful and a tendency to fabricate truths or make themselves the hero or heroine of every story.  When the lies start flowing that is a sign to get quiet and ask: What is really going on?   Who is not feeling loved? 

For 29 days Leo is in our face.   We will be asked to find our specialness.   We will find what makes us happy.  We will seek play.  We will want to have fun.    While at first blush this can sound as superficial as a cocktail party, it is not.   Joy and pleasure help us find our authentic self.   Or to quote the great Marie Kondo we look what ‘sparks joy’ as it helps us find our heart (again).   

The chart for this new moon has Sun & Moon conjunction (a bit wide) with Mercury.    Mercury is fast with thought and mouth.  Leo who goes big or goes home, will spark a lot of conversations.   Ardent conversation baked in honesty will come easily.   Of course, being honest is not an excuse to be rude.   Finding authentic voice does not mean double downing in ugly and hiding behind, “Hey it’s the truth”.   Mercury knows how to be nuanced and hopefully he will coax it out of Leo.   Check in with the heart (Leo) and see if you can find the kind.  

Also in the chart, the Sun & Moon oppose Saturn and square Uranus in Taurus.   Saturn & Uranus speaks to an internal struggle perhaps around deserve or feeling ‘not enough’ (Saturn).   Many years ago, before she decided to run for President of the United States, I used to hear Marianne Williamson in a little church in my neighborhood.   I remember one quote she often used in her lectures was, “Love brings everything unlike itself”.    It is hard to overestimate the amount of muck and mire that can come up when we tap love.   With Leo we may feel generous and want to do something for someone and it is coming from love but then if something feels ‘off’ perhaps the person we do the act for does not give the response hoped for and then what pops up in us is resentment, anger, sadness.   We should take the time to go back and find the authentic desires behind our motivations.   Was it the joy of giving?  Or was it something else?  Were we doing it for attention or perhaps applause (oooo very Leo)?  Were we trying to fill a big hole?  We may be missing the point of giving.   The square with Uranus suggests that some insecurities that pop up could come out of nowhere.   

Uranus in Taurus is teaching us all how to access practicality through unique and unusual ways.   Uranus wants us to find our inner weird.  Leo wants love and creativity but secretly fears leaning into weird because we might not be ‘loveable.’   During these 29 days we may be forced on some way to own our odd self despite any fears.   We could find ourselves waking up absolutely sure our day will be X and instead there is a quick change and our day is Y followed by Z and fears come up and then we are doing A and then B.   And somewhere all those changes made us go deeper into our authentic nature.    Spirit has a way of getting our attention.  Let’s see where our heart takes us.

Uranus begins its annual retrograde cycle.  Uranus likes to change everything up.  It is abrupt and can pull a fast one on everyone.    Uranus rules electricity and things modern. Taurus is the sign of everything rooted in practicality.  It is dirt. It is money.  It is values.  Taurus builds everything from the ground up.   Uranus disrupts and can tear everything down.  Uranus is a lightening bolt wrapped in chaos.   The last time Uranus was in Taurus was during the 1930s. It was extraordinary time of unending drought and extreme climate.    During almost the entire time Uranus was in Taurus we had the Dustbowl in the middle of the United States.   It caused great migrations of people who left farms in the central USA and headed to other parts of the nation.   I thought about that era when I saw on the news last month that the fires in California and Oregon sent ash three thousand miles away and clouded up the skies in Maine and New England.   In the 1930s dust blew across the nation and into Washington DC finally getting the attention of members of congress who had to wipe the dirt that once was the land of an Oklahoma farmer off their fresh pressed suits.  Only then did they start to write meaningful support to help the farmers.  It is worth noting that there was a mismanagement of soil in the 1890s – 1920s that was responsible for a lot of the Dust Bowl.    I anticipate we will see more climatic (and food supply) issues.   Stories of migration will be in the news and environmental injustices.    Personally, wherever you have Taurus in your chart it is getting your attention probably in weird (there’s that word again) ways.  Maybe money stuff.   Property stuff.   While it could feel rough during the bumps there are new starts and new beginnings.   

On August 22 we get our second full moon in Aquarius in a row.  Our first one was July 23.  Normally there would be only one Aquarius full moon in a year.   This year, we get two.    Okay, message received from the Universe, to get our Aquarius going.  Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus and as we already discussed Uranus is in square aspect with the Sun & Moon in the New Moon chart and then for good measure Uranus turns retrograde in this 29-day window.  That is a lot of Aquarius/Uranus attention.   We already discussed the power of disruption and weird and unique energy of Uranus.  Aquarius reminds us that we are on this planet with a world of people.  We connect with others through our circles.   Circles have value and our voice is important to those circles.   Community is important.    This is not the full moon to hide.   Find the spark of joy in you and bring to others and more important, let others spark joy in you.  Jupiter the planet of abundance is in conjunction with the moon and will bring opportunities if we are willing to be open to them.  

In conclusion, 

You have 29 days to find your heart, to be weird, to be spoiled and to spoil others.  Find your kindness and your bravery and sure maybe the bravest act of all is to be kind and soft to those around you and the person in the mirror.   You find your specialness and I will find mine and let’s check back in Virgo to make sure we are making it work for us.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     What are your talents and skills?  What is your creativity?  Where is your heart?  Where is your joy?  What makes you special?  Lean into your special and go deep into your authentic nature.   We need you to be real.  

Special note:

8/9 Venus oppose Neptune.  Intuition is high, love and money and values are soft and muted, hard to track.  Go back to intuition.  Trust but verify. 

8/10: Mercury oppose Jupiter.    Creative thinking for self-versus going big for others or a group.  How to find the middle?   How not to pivate too much into a group versus finding your own voice?  Challenges need a beat to process. 

8/11: Venus trines Pluto.   Your values speak to long term successes.  Support what seems micro for macro success.

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking tickets.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your relationships?  What are you learning about how you relate to others -one on one?  When you sit on the other side of another human what do you bring?  How are you open to what the other person brings?  Where do you bring balance in your life?  How do you calibrate when to go, when to slow, when to stop?   How do you measure and balance your vitality?

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you doing that cut away anything that depletes your vitality?   What are you doing to go deep and tap your quiet deep resolve that can get things done in your life?

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your place in the world?  How are you tapping your specialness, refining it and making it work in your bigger circles?   How do you bring your voice in a real, creative and functional manner to your career? 

Special focus

8/18: Mercury conjunct Mars.   Words are sharp.  Comments that cut to the bone may cause damage.   Great time to get detailed about a task that needs super focus.  

8/19: Sun oppose Jupiter:  How are you feeling vitality?  How are you sharing it with others?  How are you informing your circles of your creativity?   How are you sharing your bigness?  

8/19:  Uranus retrograde 14 Taurus 48 (see above)  

8/21 Mars trine Uranus.  Actions that bring out new.  Breakthroughs. 

Full Moon Phase –  

29 Aquarius 37

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

This is the second Aquarius Full moon in a row.  A special event.  We are finding our way in our community.   How is our unique voice, style, thinking, valued in the bigger world?  It starts by getting it out there.  

Special focus 

8/23:  Venus trine Saturn.  Get real about love and money and see some concrete results. Not fluff stuff but meaningful stuff. 

8/24: Mercury oppose Neptune.  Fuzzy reality.  Thoughts are confused.   Getting quiet, find intuition.  

Disseminating

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your independence?  How are you sharing your ability to be self actualized?  How are you sharing your forcefulness? 

Special focus:

8/26: Mercury trine Pluto.  Super powerful thoughts and communications.   Gentle but powerful.   Helpful to go deep and retrieve something important.  

8/29: Mercury enters Libra 

Last Quarter Moon Phase

August 30

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

Focus on:

How are your actions connected to your communication?  How do you walk your talk and how does it speak to your vitality?   How is your communication an authentic voice?   How are you vitalized by your connections within family and neighborhood?  What do you read and write and how does it bring you joy?

8/2: Mars oppose Neptune.  Laser actions versus faith and spirituality.  What actions can be taken that access intuition?  

Balsamic Moon Phase

September 3

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.  

Focus on How are you releasing your emotions?  How are your releasing your feelings?  How are you releasing your roots?   How are you releasing your family? 

Special focus: 

8/5: Venus square Pluto.  Power of Love and love of power are on the fritz.  Go back to values.  What is important and what is not?  Where is the battle?  

8/6: Mars trine Pluto.   Actions that align with practicality.  Actions that may seem small have longer impact down the road.  

8/6: Venus trine Jupiter.  Expansiveness of love.  Values blossom.  New people, new dircles come into focus.
