What is a New Moon?

A new moon is the beginning of a 28 day cycle.  Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a thin section of the moon illuminated.       

And the not so technical point of view?

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the eight phases of the moon for eons, Astrologers also utilize the different phases of the Moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

 

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

When we draft a chart for the new moon we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 28 days. 

 

Okay what is this cycle about?   What are you resources?  What do you value?  Why do you value one thing but not another?   Is it time to re-evaluate?  You bet.  Take the next 28 days to put everything through the ‘is it worth it?’ lens.

Finding Our Values

 

 

Taurus the bull is the first earth sign of the zodiac.   At Taurus, the dirt is soft and malleable; with a steady hand we can till the soil and plant seeds easily.   By the time we get to the second earth sign, Virgo the soil is harder having been baked by summer sun and when we get to the last earth sign, Capricorn, the soil is hard and frozen.  Of the three earth signs, Taurus is lighter and like the soil that they represent more optimistic than his earthen brethren.    He has great expectations for what he can accomplish.     The question is, “What does he value?”

 

When we talk about Taurus we talk about real estate, money, banks, cash, love and appreciation.    But under all of that is really ‘values’.   After all, getting paid for a service speaks to what people value of that service.   And being in love or being loved also speaks of value.  How much do you value that person or how much are you valued by someone else?    Or how much do you even value love?    Taurus values loyalty and provides much support to those whom they love.    When others get too busy to help out a friend, it is the Taurus who says, “How can I help?”  And they mean it.   They like providing security for others because they value it so much in their own lives.

 

Taurus is also highly practical.  Not one to chase hair brain ideas, they move very cautiously.    They want everything figured out and will only take low risks.    

Taurus also values nature and taking care of their body.   During Taurus, we don’t move our bodies because we want to enjoy exercising.  We don’t move our bodies because we want to burn calories.   We move our bodies during Taurus to actually remember we have bodies!   During Aries our psyches were full of fire and were racing hard with our goals and desires.  And next month during Gemini our brains will be racing a million miles an hour as we process the first air sign.  But right now, in Taurus we must take note that we are not fire and we are not air, we are human beings with bodies complete with living cells that need to be properly nurtured.   Ah, nurture, another Taurus word. 

 

Earth, nature, nurture, values, bodies, cash, properties are you getting the sense of Taurus?    It all speaks to resources.     Beautiful, abundant resources but this is where things get confusing with Taurus because their darker side speaks of lack filled with jealousy, envy and greed.

 

When they are feeling good about themselves and enjoying life they are taking it minute by minute.    And in that position they can find optimism in the world.   They can see all the resources that they have at their fingertips.   When they are disconnected from their own good--- then they are greedy.  It is not good enough that they have a friend with a cabin in the mountains who has given them an open invitation whenever they want to get out of town.   No, they have to go and buy their own cabin.   

 

Or they can be highly possessive and protective of their properties which can also include people.   Fearful that someone will steal one of their friends they become unreasonably possessive.    Visuals of Daffy Duck holding a diamond saying, “Mine, mine, mine,” come to mind.   When Taurus hangs on and gets a thought in their head, they cannot be dissuaded.   Even if the thought in their head is different from the facts.   In the case of Daffy, he was clutching a rhinestone not a diamond but don’t tell him that.    In truth, this grasping nature is not just Taurus, but also includes the other fixed signs, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.  All of them hang on and won’t let go.     That is their strength and their weakness.       Watch and see where you won’t let go this cycle?  Is it serving you?   

 

Now of course if Taurus wants to spend a jillion dollars and buy whatever they want that is their business.   And god knows it makes for good reality TV when Taurus housewives go on a buying spree.     Or if they want to be unreasonably possessive and see the benign as threatening that is also their business.  

 

But more to the point the greediness and possessiveness speaks of a huge disconnect.   Why are they missing their inner resources? Have they forgotten how to find the great expectations inside of themselves?   Do they not know they have many resources available?   How do they spend their day?  Are they seeing their vibrancy?   Are they taking walks in nature?  Are they working on a business brick by brick?   Are they building their income?   Or are they too lazy to get their butt off an unseen couch in a vine encrusted cottage in the Thomas Kinkade painting?      Why can Taurus who is unbelievably hard working and has a depth of creativity and a large well of inner resolve still stay stuck in places and situations?   Fear.      What is the fear?   It goes back to value.  They fear they either don’t deserve or are not worthy of all the good.   And when they are really backed up they get stubborn.

 

Watch and see when you get stubborn.  And why are you being stubborn?   Seriously, why?   And what about greed and jealousy?  If that comes up ask yourself have you taken an inventory of all the good that is in your life right now?     And of course many things will come up this next twenty eight days where you will ask if something is ‘worth’ the time, the money, the sweat, the hassle?  We will also look at the resources around us and wonder if there is more we really need.    Or can we find the joy in what we have and build upon it?

 

And when Taurus starts to move their body and start to do real work towards a real, concrete goal it is then that their jealousy and envy and greed can start to lessen.    Put a harness on the bull and get him up and doing work and that is when he does not see red everywhere he turns.     Luckily, this particular Taurus moon has a lot of harmonious aspects that will have all of us finding our own inner resources and working them like a productive bull.    

 

Mars and Pluto on deck

 

This Taurus New Moon has the Sun and Moon trine both Pluto and Mars. Pluto speaks to letting go and letting god.    This is a gift because for the most part Taurus does not like to let go, they hang on to things way past their usefulness because they fear change so much.   But not these twenty eight days!  Pluto and Mars will support change.   We may all make practical changes this month that are valuable.   Even people around us will be amazed, “Wow, you did that?”   And we may say the same thing to others.    We feel or see resources around us that we never knew we had.    Is it our own inner strength?  Is it our good health?  Are we just breathing more?   Do we suddenly have time for a yoga class?   Is it an opportunity to make a little money on the side doing a craft that we love?   We have a lot of opportunity.   Will we seize it?   I hope so. 

 

Watch the news for breakthrough and opportunities especially around 4/23 when the Mars trine is exact and around 4/29 when the Pluto trine is exact.    But the influence will be felt all month.   A lot will come up where you must be practical and  ‘strike while the iron is hot.’    There’s that Taurus word—practical.    

 

Saturn in the house

 

Along with the perks of Pluto and Mars, there is a stressful Sun/Moon opposition to Saturn.    Relationships will feel strained.    Even joyful relationships could feel tense.   We know that we are working out a lot of our relationship and partnership bumps between now and fall when Saturn leaves Libra.  On this new moon The Sun/Moon in Taurus know that we have a lot of good available to us.   But if we are not feeling it we need to look at what we want from our relationships?  Are we asking too much?   Or are we not asking enough?   Or are we asking too much from the wrong people and need to ask more from the right people?  

 

With Saturn in the mix we will be prone to see the negative and not the positive.  But at the same time we should not make excuses for lame people.    They are what they are sure but it says more about us not them if we keep lameness in our life.    And also if we have a lot of personal stress perhaps we need to walk away from it and just work on our own passions and do concrete work in our lives.   Put the phone machine on, turn off facebook, don’t make plans with lame people and put our noses to the grindstone.   When the 28 days is over we may find ourselves in a new fruitful, abundant territory.  

 

Globally, the Saturn aspect could influence world banks, currencies and money in general.     Expect some financial fissures to be exposed.   Money could get tight again.  Sigh.   

 

Venus the butterfly

 

Interestingly, Venus which is the ruling planet of Taurus is making a lot of noise this month.    On 5/15 Venus will turn retrograde at 24 Gemini.   She will remain retro until June 27 and she does not leave Gemini until August 7.   Normally, Venus is in a sign for about four weeks but in this case Venus went into Gemini on April 3 and will be there for four months!   Do you think the universe wants us to get our Gemini values on?   You bet.   Ask yourself how much information you have you been processing since April 3?   And more to the point are you reacting differently than you have in the past?   With Gemini it is always a synthesis.    Even if data comes to you that look black or white, you will find value in staying in the grey.    Whatever has come up since April 3 we may revisit after it turns retrograde on the 15^th.   

 

One thing we are definitely going to have to deal with is the fact that Gemini does not exactly care about truth.  To Gemini, little white lies help keep the world spinning.    And so it is for Venus in Gemini.   A little lie here or there is not going to kill anyone.   Even those people who see themselves as always telling the truth will remain mute.  Why tell the truth if no one cares about it?   And anyway, what may be true one day will not be so clear the next.   Watch the media and the press during the next months and you will see them get a lot of stuff wrong even when it is right on Tuesday it is wrong by Thursday.    During the retrograde many of us may shift our opinions.    What does it mean to not hold on to opinions?   How much of our actions are based on our opinions?  What actions can we take that are based on something else?  

 

Gemini is a ‘brainy’ sign and it is not exactly a cozy place for Venus.   We will not be overly romantic.  We will be interested in our emails and we will be interested in communicating perhaps with people from our past.  Maybe even old lovers.  But it is not all wine and chocolate and cooing.  We are more interested in what they ended up doing with their lives.   Our curious, snoopy side will be up.   We are processing values.   “Hmm, they only have one car and two adults and they seem to be getting along fine…hmmm how does that work?”   We are going to be processing a lot of information and it will impact what we value or not value.  Our  heads and hearts will be spinning a lot this cycle.

 

Mercury is electric

 

It is curious that the sabian symbol for two degrees Taurus involves electricity.    Because Mercury is in conjunction with Uranus on the new moon and Uranus rules electricity.   Watch for a light bulb to come over your head.   You will have brilliant thoughts especially in the beginning of the cycle.   Truly, you have never been smarter!   You may make connections that you never put together before.   I am not saying that you need to pursue each brilliant thought but there will be something in there that is definitely helpful and valuable.  Again, there is that Taurus word.  

 

Ceres

There is one other aspect worth noting and that is the asteroid Ceres is in conjunction with the sun and moon.    Ceres is the goddess of grain and a huge mother archetype.    Watch the news for a protective raging mom and watch for food issues.  Crops will be in the news.  Is it good or bad news?   I’m not sure but food will be a discussion.

In conclusion:   We are all racing so hard to accomplish much each day.   Our multitasking is drowning us.   But now for 28 days we need to decide what is worth our efforts and what is not.  Although, Taurus likes to hold on to stuff you will be surprised by the Pluto Mars energy which will have us get rid of stuff.   And if we are investing in anything it will only be something that we deem valuable.  Not what the world thinks is important but what we think is valuable.  Like beauty, value is in the eye of the beholder.  Taurus is here to remind us how to behold real value.     Make the most of it!

New Moon Phase

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.  

 

Focus:  

What are your resources?  What do you value?  What is coming up for you that is really important and what can you ditch?   How is your money?  How are your properties?   Protect and nurture the good.  And certainly get rid of the crap.  

 

Special Focus:  

4/22: Sun/Neptune: Harmonious day.  Things appear by magic.  Inspiration comes out of thin air.

4/22: Mercury/Uranus:   Sparks of creativity.   Breakthroughs in thinking and communicating. 

4/23:Sun/Mars:  Actions with concrete results.  Nothing is wasted.   Resources line up with correction action. 

 

 

 

Crescent Moon Phase

April 25 6:55am  

 

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

 

Focus on:   What are you hearing or learning that speaks of your own communication?  Are people being honest or duplicitous with you?   There is a time to be a black and white and a time to be gray.    What value can you find in the gray?    Why put yourself out there all black or white when you can hang out in the middle?

 

 

Special Focus:

4/25: Mercury/Pluto.  Mental struggles over power issues.  Avoid petty conversations.   Let them die.  Mentally understand the importance of letting go and releasing.   

4/29: Sun/Pluto.  Finding power that supports our values.   Plugging a power source that you may not have released you had in your world. 

 

 

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

 

 

Focus on:   What actions can you take now that support your self esteem?  How can you take smart risks that speak to what you value?   What bold, strong actions can you take that build upon your resources?   Where is your ego out of control and how does it reflect low self esteem?   If you fix it now will how will it support your resources? 

 

 

Gibbous Moon

May 2, 6:37pm EDT  

 

 

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, we organize  to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions. 

 

 

Focus on:    What does your diet look like?  Why does it look like that?  What does your calendar look like and how is it in sync or out of sync with your values?  Where are you wasting time?  How is your daily routine in synch with your health?   How can you tighten up your time management to better support your resources?

 

 

 

Special Focus:

5/3: Mercury/Venus.  Fun, lively conversations.  Perks for love and money.  Values are highlighted and mental breakthroughs about what we ‘really’ value may come up.

5/5: A harsh day mentally speaking.  Things feel hard.   Can’t wrap brain around some things or just think in harsh terms.   Nothing ‘fits’ right. 

 

 

Full Moon Phase

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you? 

 

 

Focus on:    How are you balancing the your values with the values of others?   Where do you need a loan?  Where do you need to co-mingle with others?  How can you share your own resources?   What areas need to die so they can be reborn?  What needs to be sacrificed for greater growth ?  What do you need to ditch so you can be invigorated?

Disseminating Moon Phase

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information. 

 

 

Focus on:      How are you sharing your executive abilities?  How are you showing others how to be a leader by example?   What advise can you share that speaks of resources and values and how to achieve them?   Did you know people see you as a CEO?  Watch what advice people come to you about and then you will know more about your valuable skills.    

 

 

 

Special focus:

5/10: Mercury/Neptune.   Inspired thinking.   A whimsical moment with someone is highlighted.

 

Last Quarter Moon Phase

May 12 5:46pm EDT

 

 

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living  “The serenity prayer”

Focus on:   What actions are you taking that support your friends?  What actions are they taking that support you?   How would your resources benefit if you were with like minded individuals?   

 

 

Special Focus:

5/13 Sun/Jupiter: Big money day.   Big resource day.  Look at your life and ask what do you have that is working?    Stay focused on it.

 

5/15 Venus Retrograde (see above) 10:33am

5/16 Mars/Pluto.  Great day for productive actions.  Great day to let go of stuff that is no longer working and make movements on areas that are where you are heading.
