Gemini New Moon--the first round- 2012

GEMINI NEW MOON #1 2012

By Tracy Cook

Many years ago I studied lunar phases with Robert Buz Myers.  It is my hope that he would be proud of my work today.  Blessings to you, Buz!

What is a New Moon?

A new moon is the beginning of a 28 day cycle.  Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a thin section of the moon illuminated.

And the not so technical point of view?

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the eight phases of the moon for eons, Astrologers also utilize the different phases of the Moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

When we draft a chart for the new moon we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 28 days.

Okay what is this cycle about?   It is time to unplug your brain and start new each and every day.  A lot of stuff is coming through and how are you going to adjust for it?  How can you rise above the shallow and  have more meaningful connections to others, to self and to Spirit.  These questions are so important you are going to get two rounds of Gemini New Moons to get it right.  But it starts now with the moon first.   Are you up for it?

Solar Eclipse

Let’s first talk about the eclipse.  It is an annular eclipse which is not the same as a total eclipse.  A total eclipse shuts off the sun completely.  This one is over 90 percent full which creates something called a ‘ring of fire’.   What is funny about this is that the path of the eclipse goes over the other ‘ring of fire’ the seismic one.   It is an exciting time for those of us in western United States because the eclipse starts in China works its way over Japan, the northern Pacific Ocean, Canada, Washington, Oregon, California (over the Facebook office) then Nevada, and Rocky Mountain States all before sunset.  Around Texas the sun sets before the eclipse so it will not be seen in central and eastern USA .    Here is the map and a description of what you will see.

http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Solar_Eclipse_to_Sweep_North_America_on_Sunday_May_20th_999.html

All eclipses are either on a new moon which speaks to new beginnings or on a full moon which speaks to emotional adjustments.   In this case, the eclipse is speaking to our intellect, communication, new thoughts and also siblings, neighbors and newspapers (or the 21st century equivalent).   At its core it speaks to how we connect and what lines we draw between dots.  Sometimes the lines are accurate—and sometimes they are not.  Do you know the difference?

Gemini road ahead

Gemini is our first air sign in the zodiac.  After the firestorm of Aries and the earthen responsibilities of Taurus we are now ready for a breezy Gemini wind filled with new ideas and new thoughts.

Geminis are great talkers and we hope good communicators.   Wait, what is that?  Aren’t good talkers great communicators?  Nope.    As we know many people can say a lot of things but communicate nothing.   And even Gemini can get stuck.  Especially when they connect dots that have no business being connected.

But, and this is important, Gemini is also the MOST clever sign of the zodiac and Spirit in his infinite wisdom is trusting that all of us will use this Gemini time to get clever because two weeks after this powerful Gemini Solar Eclipse we get a Lunar eclipse in Sagittarius (Gemini’s opposite sign) then followed by ----drum roll---another Gemini New Moon!   What?  Say it ain’t so.   Yep, the first Gemini New Moon on May 20th is at one degree of Gemini and the second one on June 19 is at twenty nine Gemini.   Now let’s do the math together; each lunar calendar is 28 days so 28 x 2 means we are going to have 56 days of Gemini energy.  Do you think Spirit is sending us a message about our thinking and our communication and perhaps, just perhaps both need to be fine-tuned or overhauled?    I see you nodding your heads yes.   I feel the same.

There is so much going on for the next eight weeks that it is impossible to overstate the following:  If you have not changed  your thinking or thinking style or your communication or communication style between May 20 and July 18  then you are not paying attention.     And if you are not paying attention then prepare for possibly the less evolved Gemini stuff to come up in your life.  Such as; mindless gossip, lies, shallow connections, manipulation, nervousness, tension, boredom, ADHD type of restlessness and of course a brain so in overdrive that it MindF***ks itself.

The meaning of thought

In order to fully utilize this first lunar Gemini Moon we need to go back in time, back to the early sixteen hundreds in the Dutch Republic.  There we find a small, dark haired man pondering big ideas.   While most of the people around our man were wondering where to get wheat to make bread he wondered why humans are even walking on earth.  His name was Rene Descartes and one day in 1637 he took out his quill and wrote Je pense donc je suis   rough translation:  “I think therefore I am.”

Descartes is the father of modern philosophy and from his work (which we know is good since it was banned by the Catholic Church) many great thinkers evolved.    This is pretty heady stuff and of course you are wondering, what it all means and why are we talking about it now?   Because it is very simple, what you think defines your life.  Descartes suggested that you and I don’t exist unless we think we exist.  I have not really pondered it but I suppose if I stopped thinking I exist maybe I will plum disappear which as appealing as it is, I can’t really contemplate it since someone has to pick up my son from school.

I know this is all brainy but at the core we are talking about something very simple.   How you wake up in the morning and how you think about everything you encounter speaks to the kind of life you experience.     And what are you going to do about it for the next twenty eight days (and the following 28 days)?

My suggestion is get clever and start making mental changes-every day, perhaps every hour!    If you wake up and get some shitty phone call from some lame ass—so what?   You can, if you want, let it set the tone for the rest of your day which I predict will be dismal or you can shake it off and pivot (Gemini word) and approach the rest of the day with an openness and eagerness.  Be novel, whatever comes up in front of you try a different response.  Now is not the time to be a righteous know-it-all-teacher, now is the time to be a student.   Learn from others.

Mutable energy

Gemini is a mutable sign, meaning it likes changes.   Talk about turning on a dime, that is Gemini, they are up, they are down, they are on the left, they are on the right, they are moving and shaking, then they stand still, then they run off, they are the most FLEXIBLE of the four mutable signs (Pisces, Virgo & Sagittarius).    And when they are fully processed they are beautiful communicators. They speak their truth and we ‘get’ them.    Even when they are young they have great insight.   If they are willing to share it.   Does anyone question the prose of Anne Frank, a kind little clever Gemini who spoke so much in that one small diary?      And then there is Rupert Murdoch also a Gemini.    Digging in trashcans to find dirt on people at any cost and spread it out there in the tabloids.   We will all have the devil and the angel on our shoulders this 28 day lunar cycle.

This new moon, we have the Sun/Moon conjunct Mercury  and conjunct Jupiter.  Having these four guys together makes my head split.   Sun and Moon are excited and they see potential roads opening in so many ways.  At the same time Mercury the traffic cop will be sending even more ideas to the Sun and the Moon and now add Jupiter and our brains are like Grand Central Station with ideas coming and going and a traffic cop trying to manage it all.    Need a visual to see your brain and your calendar this month?   Go HERE  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eimuAboXSdo

Neptune’s influence

Along with the conjunction, the Sun and the Moon are making a difficult aspect (square) with Neptune so there is going to be disillusionment.    Neptune in Pisces is highly creative and very intuitive.  Unfortunately rational Gemini just does not ‘get’ that whole intuitive thing that both Neptune and Pisces are always talking about.   Gemini is way too logical for those things that cannot be defined.   A space craft from Mars could land on the front lawn of a Gemini and they would explain it away.  Unfortunately for them, if that alien from Mars showed them how to make electricity for free for the rest of their lives they would also rationalize that away—“It can’t happen, it does not make sense” and so they would not benefit by the gift.    Many a Gemini has lost a gift or perk because it did not make logical sense to them.     What would Mr. Descartes say?    Of course, with Neptune we do need to guard against rose colored glasses and we should not drink any cool-aid, instead we need to balance rationality with openness.    I know, I know easier said than done.

Additionally, with Neptune there usually is deceit so globally there will be some kind of liar in the news and personally there will undoubtedly be lies in front of all of us.   And even if we don’t bust the liar (or we don’t get busted for our own lies) expect that the truth will still be out there if we follow our intuition.  Some of us who are able to do it should remember, fear, hope, jadedness and overly criticalness, extreme rationality are NOT intuition.   Those are all emotions-even criticalness is rooted in fear which is an emotion.    Intuition is not based in emotion.    I encourage you to find your intuitive side but before you run with it make sure it is not an emotion that you are calling intuition.

All of this is important not just because of the square with Neptune but also Neptune will be turning retrograde.  Once a year Neptune stations and on June 4, Neptune will station at 4 degrees of Pisces and go back all the way to 1 degree of Pisces on November 11 where it straightens out.   Since Neptune spends half of the year in retrograde motion he is pretty comfortable with a reverse course and uses the time to his advantage.   Like a deep sea diver with a flash light he goes deep into our unconscious brain and finds the curious and weird stuff.   The stuff we never thought about before and perhaps how it may or may not impact us.

Again, this speaks of us finding our intuition.   And having it turn retrograde during the Gemini cycle and then turn direct during the Scorpio cycle suggests that we will uncover ideas and thoughts that keep us from our power and empowerment (Scorpio).  There could be things that come up for the next five months that bug you at first subtlety then grow until it is the only thing you think about.   Do whatever you can to address the issue.  Fix it so by the time you get to November you can be done with it and feel a rebirth.

The Venus factor

As you no doubt can guess, our calendars will be chocked full of appointments and our brains will be filled with many exciting ideas.  Adding fuel to all of this is the Venus Retrograde in Gemini.  Venus turned retrograde a week before the New Moon and will be in full effect during these 28 days.  We are all processing our relationships during this retrograde along with things we value, such as love and money.  I indicated on the previous new moon and on my blog  http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6933809228276133764#editor/target=post;postID=1360048843047884423  that I believe money will be slapped around a lot during May, June and July.     Also other stuff that we value will be put up on the ‘thought block’.   We will ponder things that were so important in April that just simply might not be so important by the end of June (when Venus turns direct).    However, you should not feel disheartened especially since Venus retrograde is taking place in mutable Gemini.  Just shift and change, get clever, get a new route.  Venus does not retrograde often and it is so smart in Gemini that it probably won’t hurt as much if you need to make big changes. Remember Gemini is more an intellectual sign than emotional sign.  That is a gift.

Then on June 5 & June 6 you will hear in the news something about the Venus Occultation.  This is a very rare event.  Here is what Nasa says about them:

Transits of Venus across the disk of the Sun are among the rarest of planetary alignments. Indeed, only six such events have occurred since the invention of the telescope (1631, 1639, 1761, 1769, 1874 and 1882). The next two transits of Venus will occur on 2004 June 08 and 2012 June 06.

 http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/transit/venus0412.html

Technically, Venus will show up as a little dot in front of the face of the Sun.  If Venus were bigger it would look like an eclipse of the sun.   Are you seeing a theme?   Venus is retrograde in Gemini, making us rethink (Gemini word) our values and relationships (Venus).    And not only is Venus going backwards, she is poking the Sun (in Gemini) for a little extra fuel.  Our brain will be on overdrive.   Good luck getting a solid night’s sleep.   There will be so much going on it will be nearly impossible to relax.   Here’s your exercise:  process, breathe, process, breathe, process breathe and repeat.    The answer is NOT to hold on to anything.  And remember if you blow up with someone on Tuesday you will not necessarily feel the same on Thursday.  Nothing in carved into stone this 28 day cycle.  Be adaptable.

Lunar Eclipse.

On June 4th we are going to have the companion Lunar eclipse in Sagittarius.  This pits our intellect against our beliefs.  Which at first, one might think are the same but they are not.  Case in point; a person may think that the world has many opportunities and abundance but their belief is “but not for me”.   Or, they may think “There are some great relationships out there”   except they have a belief, “…But there is no one for me.”    We will get an idea if our beliefs and our thoughts are in sync or not in sync on the full moon.    And we will need to make the adjustment.

This is your brain on drugs Jupiter

Back to that Jupiter conjunct Mercury.   This technically takes place on 5/22 and I would say some big ideas will come to all of us.  Of course, my big idea may not be big to you and visa versa.  But there will be a lot of bridges made during these next 28 days and espescially around 5/22.

Then just when we thought we had enough Gemini, on June 11th Jupiter the biggest planet of all moves out of Taurus and into ---Gemini.  And of all times for this big guy to move out of Taurus and into Gemini---he does it during the Gemini lunar cycle!   Seriously, it could have been any time of the year, it could have been in fall, it could have been in winter, it could have been in April but no, he is making his move into Gemini during the Gemini lunar cycle, which started with an Eclipse and of course, will be followed in a few days with ANOTHER Gemini lunar cycle.   Jupiter just insisted on showing up in Gemini wearing a big ol’ party hat!  He is ready for action.

So, let’s go over the details.   Jupiter is in a sign for about a year and the last time we experienced him in Gemini was between the summers of 2000 and July 2001.    You may want to recall what was going on with you during that time and consider your way of communicating and thinking.  Did it change?   How were you connecting with others? How were you connecting dots?  Did it make sense but later turn out to be incorrect?   Or were you trying different communication approaches?  And how about your brain, was it full of ideas and creativity?  Were your sparks going off?   And who were you bothering to talk to and who were you just skipping because they weren’t worth it.   I know that sounds awful but let’s face it some people just don’t get you and why on earth are you hanging out with them?   And if you are forced to be with people who don’t ‘get’ you then shift your approach.   If they don’t get you and they are never going to get you then who cares?   Say what you want or don’t say it.   Remember Mr. Descartes.

There will definitely be technology booms during this transition.  In July 2000 right at the beginning of the last Jupiter in Gemini the Prius hybrid was launched in the United States.  Talk about novelty and big ideas.    And in the fall of 2001 just after Jupiter left Gemini Apple launched its first ipod.  Now knowing as much as we do about Steve Jobs and Apple mentality we can assume that all those Apple technicians were brainstorming and working like mad scientists for the 12 months prior to launch which means their brains were in overdrive during the entire Jupiter in Gemini in 2000/01.    What will the folks at Apple be busy working on during this pass of Jupiter in Gemini?   I predict their AppleTV will be born shortly after this period.  And in fact, the whole silicon valley will be in overdrive.    Who will have the new Facebook idea? Somewhere in the world it will begin to germinate.  I expect a bunch of ideas o emerge between now and the middle of 2013.

Let’s go back to June 11th, not only do we have Jupiter moving into Gemini on June 11th, we also have a super snarky aspect between Mercury and Pluto and Mercury and Uranus.    Tension will be high that day, there will be arguing.   Pluto wants transformation and Uranus wants revolution and Mercury cannot talk to either of them.    There will probably be arguing and fighting or there will be a stalemate or a cold war and it might be a harbinger of the Uranus/Pluto square at the end of June.   But whatever is the beef, we can take the move by Jupiter to help shift our focus.   Prepare for something to come up around this day that gets your attention and makes you pivot.   Remember, Gemini is the great pivoter.   Is that a word?   And once again we are asked to process, breathe, process, breath, process..breathe you get the drift.

Uranus & Pluto

Uranus will make its first square with Pluto on June 24th and during this entire 28 day cycle we will be feeling the tension.    Things are at the breaking point globally speaking and personally we will all feel tension somewhere in our chart.    If you know your chart, look to see where you have 8 and 9 degrees Aries and 8 and 9 degrees Capricorn.   Those areas are subject to tension.    You really want to do your thing (Uranus Aries) but you are being pulled by responsibilities (Pluto Capricorn) in another direction.   No matter how hard you try to dig in and do whatever it is Uranus is saying to you, you can’t get there as fast as you want because of Pluto.   But at the same time, you can’t just fall in line and take on your responsibilities like a good soldier. Your brain is not quiet.  There is something nagging at you and making you feel guilty—it is that part of you that wants to be free and start something new.  You can’t deny it.   The tension will be great this month.   It is no accident that this tension is building during this Gemini new moon.   Clearly the breakthrough we are wanting needs new ideas, cleverness and we need a willingness to change.  Let’s see how much we grow during these 28 days.

Saturn

And then there is Saturn which is continuing to retrograde in Libra.  Like the Venus retrograde we are processing everything that is important to us.  Our relationships, our partnerships, our values, our currency.  Were do we over negotiate and give up everything for the sake of peace?  And where do we constantly fight with our partners because we think we can change them?    That old path is getting even older and smells to high heaven each day the retrograde continues.

On our horizon

A note about the next new moon:    As I indicated, there will be a second Gemini new moon, which is a bit of a rare bird on 6/19.   On that lunar phase we will have Uranus square Pluto (6/24)  then Saturn turn direct (6/25), Mercury will cross his shadow for a retrograde in July (6/26) and Venus turn direct (6/27) all within the first week of the next new moon.   Clearly we are getting a second round of communication fine tuning  in the second Gemini New Moon because we will have all learned so much about ourselves after all this processing during these 28 days that we will need to take the brain back to the shop for more work.   But we can’t get to the fruits of the June Gemini new moon without fully doing the work we need to do during this May Gemini new Moon.

In conclusion:

If you didn’t notice these are big ass days we have in front of us.  For 28 days we need to go to bed, tell our brain to unplug and then in the morning we need to reboot our brain’s hard drive.    Each day we need to start fresh.   This is not an emotional time, it is a mental time.  If for some reason you are making this emotional then you are missing the point.   You can have your emotional moon at the end of July. Between now and then work on your brain and your connections.

The 8 phases

Gemini New Moon Phase

May 20, 7:47pm EDT

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.

Focus:    How do you connect dots?   How do you communicate? Does your style work for you? What thoughts do you tell yourself daily?  Maybe even hourly?  How do you keep yourself small by over analyzing?   How do you mindf**k yourself?   Now is the time to shift all of this.  If you are 9 or 90 it does not matter, these 28 days are here for you to shift your brain and get the rust thinking out.

Special Focus:

5/22: Mercury/Jupiter: Big thoughts and ideas, gossip meter off the charts

5/23: Sun/Neptune:  Facts are diffused, mystical thoughts high, dreams and psychic vibes are ringing.

5/24:  Mercury in Gemini http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/mercuryinsigns.html

Crescent Moon Phase

May 24 9:26pm

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on:   What are you hearing and learning that speaks to your family? What are they saying to you?  How are you connections and how to they serve your family?   How are your feelings?  What are they telling you?  And what is going on with your intuition is it speaking to you?

Special Focus:

5/25:  Mercury/Neptune:  things aren’t as they are being told.   Wait for facts on another day.

5/27:  Mercury/Sun: Smart and sharp, quick thinking and highly skilled energy supported

5/27: Mercury/Uranus:  brilliant, creative, dynamic energy,  sharp thinking and bright communication

5/28:  Sun/Uranus: Dynamic, creative, brilliant energy.

First Quarter Moon

May 28  4:16pm

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:   What actions can you take that take care of details?  What needs to be booked and double checked?   What is slipping through the crack?  Can you catch it?  How are you dotting the I’s and t’s?   How does it speak to your abuility to communicate?

Special focus:

5/30: Mercury/Mars: argumentative, fighting words abound.   Snark to the tenth degree.

Gibbous Moon

June 1  2:17am

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, we organize  to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on:    What shifts and pivots can you make in your relationships that will improve your communication?   How are you neglecting balance?  Where do you need to bring in yang?  Or where do you need to bring in more yin?

Special Focus:

6/1:  Mercury Venus:  Gentle conversation.  Loving thoughts expressed although more mental than gooey.

6/3: Mercury/Saturn:  Solutions to problems can be found.  Mentally we can lift mountains.   Cleverness and responsibility  excel.

Full Moon Phase

June 4  7:11am

14 Sag 14

Lunar Eclipse

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on:    How are you balancing your need to hang out in the back of the class with your need to lead the class?    Where is truth?  Who is telling the truth to you and who is not?   What does it mean?    Where are you fired up?   How can you communicate it without blowing people away?  What do your beliefs tell you about the way you think?   What beliefs are keeping you small?

See my blog for more on full moon.  http://tracyastrosalon.blogspot.com/

Special focus:

5/4:  Neptune retrograde (see above)

5/4: Venus/Mars:  Sparks and fighting kind of hard to avoid especially among lovers, neighbors and siblings.

5/5: Sun/Venus:  Gentleness, creative, artistic, clever decent communications

Disseminating Moon Phase

June 7 2:22pm

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Focus on:      What information are you sharing with like minded others?   How are your friends supporting your knowledge?  Where are you brilliant and how are you sharing it with others?   What brilliance is being shared back to you?

Special focus:

5/7:  Mercury in Cancer http://astrology.about.com/od/mercury/p/MercuryCancer.htm

5/7:  Sun/Mars:  Big ass fighting.   Thinking is weird and people are doubling down on their cuckoo insecurity.

5/8: Mercury/Neptune:  Inspired, hopeful, brains are seeking spirituality.

June 11 6:41am

Last Quarter Moon Phase

5/11:  Jupiter enters Gemini (see above) http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/jupiterinsigns.html

5/11: Mercury/Uranus : Chaotic thinking, disjointed communication, recklessness.

5/11: Mercury/Pluto: Challenging, browbeating, punitive thoughts.   Rough and tough.

5/13:  Sun/Saturn:  Great expectations with strong work ethic.  Accomplishments very possible.

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living  “The serenity prayer

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:   What actions are you taking that support your friends?  What actions are they taking that support you?   How would your resources benefit if you were with like minded individuals?

Special Focus:

Balsamic Moon Phase

May 15 8:16am

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.

Focus on

We release greed.  We release control.  We release hanging on.  We release stubbornness.   We release over the top romance.
