Gemini New Moon

Many years ago I studied lunar phases with Robert Buz Myers.  It is my hope that he would be proud of my work today.  Blessings to you, Buz! 

 

What is a New Moon?

 

A new moon is when the moon is between the sun and the earth and the illuminated part of the moon is very small.  Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a small, skinny section of moon.       

 

And the not so technical point of view?

 

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the different phases of the moon for eons, Astrologers also utilize the different phases of the moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

 

 

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

When we draft a chart for the new moon we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 28 days. 

 

Okay what is this cycle?

Fast data, quick information, some of it true, some of it not but a lot of fun as we figure out the difference.

I wish I could come through your computer screen and snuggle up next to you and tell you everything I know about Gemini.  I would pour you a nice cup of roobios tea and then I would try my hardest to explain about Gemini’s versatility (you know it is the sign of twins),  it is one of the most dexterous signs of the zodiac, it is quick and it is by far the cleverest.  They are great talkers since it is the communication sign and they are unbelievably bright and are the wittiest sign of the whole bunch.   Their brains can run circles around most of us!  At the same time I would also tell you Gemini has a tendency to do too many things at once.  It has a horrible habit of leaving most of its projects unfinished and it can be quite shallow.   And of course it can tell lies—easily.   I would also say it is not fair to think they all lie they don’t.  But when they do, they have zip remorse because at the end of the day (and they don't alwasy admit this) they figure if you were willing to believe their lie it says more about you than them.     

 

So that is a thumbnail sketch of our friend Gemini.

 

 

Now on this New Moon we have Sun & Moon in Gemini making a small annoying aspect with Venus and an even smaller annoying aspect to Pluto.  Normally, these small aspects would not get much attention.  But because these are the only planetary aspects with the Sun and Moon we do have to give them some notice.  Venus rules things that we value that it is why it is associated with love (“Hey who doesn’t value that?”) and money.   Venus in Aries is ardent, passionate and forceful and it does not like getting dicked around by the biggest player Gemini.    While this is going on with Venus, powerful Pluto in Cap is also getting played by the twins.   Pluto in Capricorn likes things that are real, things that are concrete.  It likes to know the facts and make productive decisions based on that information.  But what happens if one minute it gets a seemingly true answer then the next minute it is deliberately misinformed?  Sure the shit could hit the fan but perhaps nothing would happen and that would be a shame because to lose an opportunity with Pluto in Cap is to lose a lot.

 

 

So, what does this look like for the next 28 days?  Well, remember I mentioned these guys are small aspects so nothing is dire!   Rather it is annoying and it puts a bit of color in the lunar cycle.   You have a conversation with a friend or associate and they mention something to you that just is kind of hard to believe.  Perhaps it might not be completely honest.  Sure. That happens.   Or maybe they tell you 80 percent of the story .   Just remember before you go investing your energy (Pluto) or your love (Venus) or your money (Venus) or your productive nature (Capricorn) or your passion (Aries) in their tale---take a  moment and ask yourself, is there another part to this story?   That missing 20 percent could be vital. You might want to get some data from someone else.    And that leads us to the perk of Gemini.  Gemini is the ultimate networker.  There are no strangers in a Gemini cycle, just friends we haven’t met yet.  So, if you need some help ferreting out something get some help from someone else.   You don’t need to sell anyone out, just ask a few questions before you have buyers’ remorse.  Whether you are buying a house, a flower pot or a friend’s story.  Double check the facts.   

 

"Oh, Mercury you are so Retro!"

 

 

Added to the mix is the fact that Mercury is still retrograde on this lunar cycle so that puts an additional cuckooness to the situation.   Stuff you hear just simply might not be accurate.  Gossip will be high.  Snoopiness is everywhere.  When you are talking on your cell phone to someone who you can’t stand you better make sure you really clicked “Off” before you say what you really think.  And periodically in certain lunar cycles I have to remind everyone to check their emails.  Your brain and hands could be moving so fast (perfectly Gemini) that you could send the wrong email to the wrong person.  “What a biatch Diane is!”   …whoops, “Sorry Dianne,  but you know I meant Biatch in that friendly cool way.”    During this cycle, before you send the email, double check everything! 

 

Additionally, Mercury is squaring big ass Jupiter.  As we have discussed previously, Jupiter is huge and where ever it goes it adds a double dose of steroids.   So, if Mercury is already cuckoo in its retrograde Jupiter is NOT helping the situation by added its juice.     Watch the stories you hear in the news.  There will be a lot of bullshit.   Remember that crazy Swine Flu tornado in Taurus new Moon?  What a firestorm and then about a week later it had dissipated in press and cases.   Subterfuge, my friends.   subterfuge.   There will be more this cycle.  Perhaps even more insidiously placed.

 

NORTH NODE TRINE

 

Globally, I expect we will have a flurry of activity during this lunar cycle.  Things will be moving fast. Data will be coming to us from all angles.  We will laugh about a lot of stuff.   Some of it will be true and some of it will be false.   Since Venus is getting a tiny bit of a slapping I expect our currencies will take some hits.  Perhaps not huge but something will just be ‘off’.   There may be some weird alliances this month.  Even strange couplings.  “Huh, he left his wife for her?”  “She left him for that guy?”    

 

Again, they are small aspects so it is not an overwhelming disaster by any means. But there is one aspect between the Sun and Moon that is very strong and it is with the North Node.  The North Node is not a planet but it is powerful point in a chart so powerful that it should be handled like a doorway.   When we do the work of our personal north nodes we will excel.  We get green lights on every road.  But when we are lazy and do our south node we create stumbling blocks every where we turn.  (On a side note: to learn more about your North Node go to this book  http://www.amazon.com/Astrology-Soul-Bantam-Classics-Spiller/dp/0553378384/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243149019&sr=8-1 )  

 

Anyway, in this case the Sun/Moon will be making a glorious trine with the North Node in Aquarius.   This is the only new moon trine (in air sign) with a north node this year and we could see beautiful demonstrations this 28 day cycle.  North Node in Aquarius is asking like minded people to join together for a cause that is beyond personal.  It is one thing to get up and go to work and provide for yourself or family but what if you and others get together for a cause or for individuals who are not family--what does it look like?  We will see examples this lunar cycle.  We may be asked to show up for others and we’ll not think twice about it.  And get this---it will be fun.  For Godsake, Gemini is always fun!    Look in the news for stories of people coming together and doing great work.   It will be an inspiration to all.

Jupiter Conjunct Neptune

26 Aquarius

 

At first blush when you see the words “Jupiter conjunct Neptune” it seems like another ho hum aspect.  But this no prosaic aspect between planets.  First of all the last time Jupiter got on top of Neptune was 1997 and that was when they were in Capricorn.   Now they are on top of each other in Aquarius and the last time these two were on top of each other in Aquarius was 1843 so as you can see this is not any ho-hum day or cycle!   Jupiter is the planet of expansion, it magnifies everything it touches.  It can be racist and philosophical.   Neptune is the gassiest planet in the solar system. It is hard to touch it because it can be vague and nebulous.  It is the planet that rules cinema, oil, illusions, drugs, hospitals, worlds behind worlds.   Jupiter rules religion and Neptune rules spirituality.   Crazy religious zealots love this aspect.    Curiously, right after they conjunct on the 27^th Neptune will turn around and go retrograde on the 29^th.   And then in June Jupiter will retrograde.  These guys will be back and forth over each for months which means we will experience the conjunction all summer long and then in the winter (about a week before Christmas) they will conjunct for the final time.   Jupiter is joyful and optimistic Neptune is dreamy and depressed.  Expect a summer and fall of  BiPolar energy.   Up and Down Up and Down.   If you you’re yourself experience super highs and super lows in some area of your life you probably can blame Jupiter and Neptune.   If you have not done your chart yet, please go here: http://www.astro.com/   Please draft your chart and then find where 26 Aquarius is located.   Whatever that house which contains that degree then expect a roller coaster of ups and downs.   

 

There is one other part to this whole business between Jupiter and Neptune and also neighbor Uranus (in Pisces) that involves Mutual receptivity.  I won’t get too bogged down on the explanation but think of it this way--- Jupiter is a landlord and Neptune is in his apartment.   Neptune is a landlord and Jupiter is in his office building.  Uranus is a landlord and both Jupiter and Neptune are in his wearhouse.  The bottom line is they are all like one big Menage---messing with each others.   Creepy?  Kinda?  But more importantly they trust one another and it is adds of a bit of “aren’t we swell?” to all the aspects.   

 

RAY is the word, is the word is the word ..... 

 

 

And on the greater landscape they will be doing a job to our economy.  Not just the US economy, the world economies will be up everyone’s grill.  

 

I have seen a lot of astrologers write about some of the astrological challenges and curiosities that we are all experiencing at this time but I must say Ray Merriman is a cut above the group.  He is one of my favorite astrologers.  To me he always has the ring of the real nickel (interesting metaphor for this aspect).    In the current issue of Mountain Astrologer--- http://mountainastrologer.com/tma/ (June/July) Ray’s article “The Economy & The cardinal Climax of 2008-2015:  Camelot or Financial Armageddon” is spot on.   He discusses many aspects we will be experiencing and he writes:

  

“It is interesting that 1843 was the year following another Great Depression in the U.S. that lasted from 1835 through 1842.  It was set off when President Andrew Jackson abolished the Second US National Bank, which at the time was the central bank of the U.S. much like the Federal Reserve Board is today.”  The article points out which many of us have pondered---that cuckoo crazy, shawl wearing Andrew Jackson shut it down and it was not until 70 years later that a central bank peered through the mist again when Woodrow Wilson put ink to a paper and the Federal Reserve Board was law.    What happens if that central bank doesn’t make it?   Something to think about.   Go get the Mountain Astrologer and order the current issue then read Ray’s article.  It is a must read for anyone who uses money.

Neptune  Retrograde

Until November 4 2009

 

 

So, Jupiter gets on top of Neptune and together they dream up all kinds of bloated wonderful optimistic ideals ----“You want to go Paris in winter?  Awesome, so do I!”  and then two days later Neptune slows down and turns retrograde.  “God, I had no idea he was such a wreck”.    Of course, a retro by Neptune is not unusual as it happens every year but the fact that it is happening so close to the Jupiter conjunction makes me pause.    What humans do to each other every day is pretty vile.  Sure there are some wonderful things they do which is great and optimistic but I think when Neptune retrogrades we might expect to hear the less than stellar aspects of this business of being human.   And then add that Jupiter influence which exaggerates everything.   Remember if something is too good to be true…. It is probably NOT that good.    The good news is that you may be able to activate that antenna you have deep inside you that ‘knows’ stuff.  Take this time of the retrograde to do yoga, meditation and deep breaths so you can find your center.  You’ll need it by the time Neptune turns direct in the fall.

Mercury direct

 

And added to the crazy mix is that we finally get Mercury direct.  I don’t know about you but this retrograde has been such a pain in the ass that I don’t even remember what it looked like when it was direct.   I have been so close to lighting my phone and keyboard on fire and throwing them off a pier.   We should all feel some relief when it turns direct.    But it doesn't mean that we can shut down our guard once it goes direct.  The New Moon chart has a got a nasty square between Mercury and Jupiter so there is a lot of people talking a lot of trash all cycle.  Perhaps after Mercury turns direct it will be a bit more honest but either way it is still exagerated.

 

ETA 11:07am 5/24:  Almost forgot Chiron.

Sorry, I needed to add this (note to self---never turn in an article while Mercury is retro--argh!!)   There is one more thing to add to the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in aquarius and that is Chiron.  Chiron is also at the same degree adding some depth to the situation.   There will be a lesson to be learned this lunar cycle because Chiron is all about lessons.   Clearly, this amplifies the lesson of "being there for someone else and group causes."    It is hard to downplay humanitarian causes and issues during this cycle.   Maybe another tsunami?  Maybe an earthquake?  Maybe something electrical like a brown out...?   I don't know but whatever it is it wil. get our attention for a reason.   Kind of like 9/11 slowed us all down.

 

 

In closing:

During this cycle our thoughts will be fast and sharp.  We will start off a bit slower because of the retrograded Mercury but once it turns direct we will get the word out about stuff.  The key is to make sure you have all your facts.  Even after Mercury goes direct.  Do not move so quickly that you screw yourself out of money or love because if you do that, well, it sucks.   Don’t suck.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.  

 

Focus on  Communication, letters, emails, sharing data, connecting with others, interacting with siblings and neighbors, reading magazines.  Being light.

5/26 Mars/Jupiter: sparks and play, good time.  Perhaps indulgent

5/27 Mars/Neptune: Actions based on spiritual desires

 

Crescent Phase

May 27 1:54pm (EDT)

 

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

 

Focus on:  Family, roots, childhood, mother, emotions.  What information is coming that involves family?  What data are your receiving that impacts your home?  How is the info helping or hurting your emotions?

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

 

 

Focus on:  Health, hygiene, schedules, refinement and daily activities.  What seed did you plant on new moon that can now benefit by daily action?   How can your refine the action that you did on new moon to take you to the next level?  Push your self but not at the expense of your health.

6/2: Venus/Neptune: Love of spirituality.  Love that is bigger.  Too much booze

Gibbous:  We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, we organize, we tend to be ‘virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions. 

 

 

Focus on: How are your relationships?  Do they need refinement?  Do they need work?  How are you working out your insecurities on your relationships? Is it a good thing or not such a good thing?

 

Special focus:

6/4 Mars/Pluto: powerful actions that are beneficial.

6/5 Sun/Saturn: tough day.  Grind, grind and more grind. Argh!

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you? 

 

Focus on:   Things that are international, educational, philosophical and judgmental.   Are you going over the top?  Are you being ‘too much’?  “too big”?  Religion may play a part as you seek balance. 

 

Special focus:

6/8: Venus/Pluto: powerful love transforms the landscape

6/9: Mercury/Uranus: Clever thoughts and revolutionary thinking

6/9: Mercury/Neptune: deceitful communication or at least smoke and mirrors

Disseminating: Share information, find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information. 

 

 

Focus on:   Groups of likeminded people.  Associations of higher ideals.    Can be rebellious.   Are you sharing information that is rebellious?  Are you sharing information that can help your group?  Are you reaching out to groups?  Why not?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Third Quarter Phase

Third Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living  “The serenity prayer”

Focus on: Release  & Detox.  Spirituality & Illusion.  Self undoing and psychological matters. What actions can you take that will help you release?  What actions can you take answer to something greater?  What motivates you that is spiritual in nature?  Actions should make you feel attached to a greater cause.

Balsamic Phase

Balsamic:  We release.  We let go.  We prune, we discard, we ditch stuff. We house clean. The things that no longer work, we let them out of our life.  We release so we can clear our unconscious and dream.  We prepare our unconscious to be ready for the next

 

 

 

Focus on  Material.  Real estate.  Things that are practical and concrete.  In what way can you release material desires that will serve the goals you planted on New moon?
