Cancer New Moon: Feelings. Emotions. Passion. 2021

Cancer  New Moon– 2021

By Tracy Cook

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.

Okay what is this cycle about   Your feelings guide your emotions and your emotions activate important actions.   Your feelings are not in your head, they are in your gut.  Find it.

Cancer  New Moon

18 Cancer 02

July 9, 2021

6:16pm PDT

Please note all times are Pacific.

Welcome to Cancer New Moon.   We have just completed a 29-day mental workout during the Gemini lunar cycle and eclipse.  Having wrapped up a mental fry and burn out cycle, we now leave the brain and go to the place where we tap our feelings and emotions for 29 days of Cancer lunar cycle.

Cancer is the first water sign of the zodiac and the second cardinal modality.    All of the cardinal signs are forceful and start things.  On the Aries new moon, we launched our treasure map.   Now on Cancer new moon we tap our emotions and make sure we are answering our needs and assessing if we are being nurtured.

Cancer is the sign of family, mom, childhood, roots, history, emotions and feelings.  Emotions are not to be confused with feelings, since emotions activate motion/action.  Feelings are like antenna they pick up signals which inspire emotions.  Our feelings are touched maybe by kindness.  Or maybe our feelings get hurt.   Whatever the feeling we can be motivated to act. Maybe retreat or maybe harness our energy and do something we have been wanting to do for a long time.   There are also feelings that tap intuition.   They may not be explainable but there is a ‘knowing’.   Both emotions and feelings are the domain of the three water signs.  In Cancer the emotions circle around nurturance.    For 29-days we ask: ‘How do I feel?’  ‘Where am I hungry?  (Cancer rules stomach) “Where am I tired?  “What is sustaining me?”  After driving through a year of extraordinary times,  does my ‘car’ (my body and soul) need “oil”?”

On the chart of this Cancer new moon, the Sun/Moon make an opportunistic sextile with Uranus the planet of unexpected (and weird) stuff.     The Sun/Moon also trines Neptune, the god of everything soft and muted.  Additionally,  the Sun/Moon are in a wide aspect with Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, reminding us that there is some stuff that needs to be released in order to have more sustainable nurturance.  The opposition is wide (7 degrees)but it  still colors the 29-day window.  Finally, the sun and moon are in a small aspect, a semi sextile with Mars and Venus who are forming a conjunction on the 13th.  Finding our passion is important or hints of it during this Cancer cycle.

Often when I draft a chart for the new moon, I will muse to myself, “Would I like this person if this was their natal chart?”   The answer for the last few years, (especially with some cardinal new moons) has been a lot of, “Not really.”   There has been so much action with the outer planets,  Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto that the charts have been a bit too rough.  Having said that, I think I would like this person if this was their chart.   Of course, it is not a human it is a 29-day window, but I think there is stuff we will all welcome in the cycle.

Neptune in Pisces, a fellow water sign, is talking to the Sun/Moon in Cancer though our gentleness and ability to read subtleties.   We may have been in a situation, place, moment that on the surface we have been in a jillion times, but now we pick up on something that we never noticed before.  We are informed on a new level.  This feeling or observation could be helpful if not now but down the road.   We could also have unworldly moments that can’t be explained and intuition could be high.

Uranus is the oddest planet of the zodiac.  It will bring in weird, goofy and strange people, places, things, events and moments.   It is the planet of surprise.   While it is not one of the bigger aspects, the Sun and Moon sextile Uranus will bring some opportunity to break with tradition and conformity.   Cancer likes roots, it has a hard shell that it uses to protect itself often from change.   If it thinks it is going to lose something it will fight like a muther to keep it—those Crab pinchers can sting.  However, Uranus in Taurus sextile SunMoon in Cancer can allow for a change, even in places that seem imperious, including frozen hearts.  I was curious about the sextile since Uranus moves so slow, I wondered how long it had been since the last Cancer New Moon to have a sextile with Uranus?  Searching through my ephemeris, the last time we had a Cancer New Moon sextile Uranus, was in 1965 (Uranus in Virgo).  If you are even remotely familiar with USA history, then you know 1965 was a significant summer and year for social justice including but not limited to the signing of the 1965 Civil Rights bill.    The time before was Cancer New Moon of 1937 and 1939 when Uranus was in Taurus like it is now.   I cannot lie, those 37/39 dates set off my spidey stuff since 37 was the run up to WW2 and two months after the 1939 Cancer New Moon was the beginning of the war (September).    Did anyone during those Cancer New moons get a vibe to make a drastic move out of Germany or Europe?  Did they get a lucky break?   Did an out of the blue moment inform them in some weird way?  For the record, I am not so sure that I am concerned about global power by a nation this round of Uranus in Taurus as much as I am concerned about climate change and those ramifications.  This 29-day cycle may also point us to conversations about Silicon Valley.  Uranus in Taurus  is very much about new technology, perhaps this Cancer cycle will point to workers in food industry from farms to the tables and how technology helps or hurts.

Then there is Pluto.  For 29 days our emotions will be pronounced, some highs and lows but not necessarily overwhelming.  Emotions and feelings guide us.   If we come away from a meeting or coffee or encounter with someone and we feel bad, we need to take a moment and process it.  Is the issue that this person was rude?  Okay that says something about the person.  Is the bad feeling because the person triggers a feeling in us that we are not in touch with on some level?  Is it anger?  Is it jealousy?  Why?   That’s on us. Do we think they have something that we are never going to get or don’t possess?  Is that accurate?  What changes can we make to get ‘it’?   With Pluto we need to go deeper in our feelings. Is anger masking sadness?  Is snappiness masking fear?   Or if we come away from a situation, person, place and feel good, why?  What goodness is being tapped that we have maybe forgotten?  How can we have more of that goodness?  What do we need to do from our own efforts (Cancer) to create an environment for more goodness?   Between Pluto dislodging the stuff we don’t need and Neptune tapping inspiration we can use a lot of our emotions to work with us during Cancer lunar cycle.

Cancer reminds us that we have to be like the sea, tides come in and tides go out.  Waves are big and waves are low, they are constantly changing, so whatever feeling comes up is not likely to hang out long, especially if we process it and avoid being stuck.  As I have mentioned in all of my reports, you never ever want to be stuck in one feeling in the water sign lunar cycles (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).  The skank dench of stagnant water is—the worst.  Stuck emotions are not good for anyone.  Your family and friends don’t want you stuck and frankly if they are not telling you, they don’t think the complaining is good for you.   It cuts you off from new vibrancy which leads us to…..

…Venus and Mars in Leo forming a conjunction on July 13.   The last time these two planets were in conjunction in Leo was August of 2015.   We may feel an echo off that summer during this cycle.   This conjunction is part of three, the next two Venus/Mars conjunctions will be Feb 16 at 17 Capricorn and the final one will be on March 6 at Zero Aquarius.    On the basic, astrology 101, our two closest planets (from Earth), speak of love and values and receptivity (Venus) and war/action and aggressiveness (Mars).  Love and action come together.  In Leo this speaks to that which makes our heartbeat.  Leo is our creativity, art, passion, love, drama, play, joy and heart driven activity.    I could blow through this conjunction and give you a one liner that would be accurate, but I am going to stop down on this one a bit more because my gut (Cancer) is telling me to do it.  Next month on the Leo new moon I will echo some of this language but with Venus/Mars conjunction in Leo and the sextile to the Cancer New Moon, we need to start connecting to the Leo energy.

Do you know anyone in your life who has unfettered passion?  He or she has a drive and come hell or high water they do it?  I have a son who has a passion for airplanes no less than Richard Branson.  He takes endless trips to LAX to photograph this plane land, another plane take off, each special for reasons only known to him and his plane spotter friends. They gather on a hill talk with passion like they are seeing a plane for the first time and by the way, the are of all ages.   I also have a husband who loves running, swimming and biking.   The miles he covers in all three activities every week, would make the average person shake their head.   I, of course have my own passions, writing, researching, not just astrology but other topics.   I can go just as deep as the other members of our household.   I know from personal experience that having a thing and running with it keeps the heart going.  My friends use to laugh when I got super excited by the arrival of a death certificate when I was deep in geneaology. Being excited about something taps a vitality in us.     Are you tapping your own interest?  Where is your thing?  Are you running with it?   Have your ‘things’ been put on the back burner?  Is it time to find a new thing?   Or are you telling yourself that your thing is stupid?  A waste of time?  Or  that you aren’t that good/knowledgeable/not enough to run with the thing?  Did you know the word amateur comes from the word amore ?  Meaning to  do something out of love.

Now is the time to find and spark your passion.  After one helluva a year, the Venus/Mars conjunction in Leo may have more meaning to all of us than the conjunction in 2015 and it could be important as we roll into the other two conjunctions.  The fire that is activated in our belly now could be put through practical application (perhaps even make money) at Feb’s conjunction in Capricorn and be well received by our circles and community in March at zero Aquarius.    Take time this cycle to let Venus and Mars talk to you.

Jupiter

December 19, 2020, Jupiter enter Aquarius

May 13, 2021, Jupiter enters Pisces

June 20, 2021, Jupiter station retrograde 2 degrees Pisces 11

July 28, 2021, Jupiter re-enters Aquarius

October 17, 2021, Jupiter station direct 22 Aquarius 20

December 29, 2021, Jupiter returns to Pisces

Jupiter turned retrograde last month and on July 28 it returns to Aquarius.   The last time, Jupiter was in Aquarius was between December 2020 and May this year.   The time before that was January 2009 until January 2010.   There may be some themes from 09-10 that were repeated earlier this year.   In May, when Jupiter went into Pisces we moved into different topics.   Jupiter is huge, it attracts large themes, events and moments that educate us and inform our philosophy, our opinions, our big thinking.   In Aquarius, Jupiter had to share the energy with Saturn who is also in Aquarius.  Saturn can bring a depressing, “what’s the use?” attitude which really rubs Jupiter the wrong way.    Once Jupiter moved into Pisces in May, Jupiter felt liberated being out of the same sign with Saturn. Jupiter was more porous ready to absorb the information of Pisces.  Our inner mystic could have been up, we could have been leaning into our faith, we could have pulled away from things that were harsh for fear that it would take us too down or we could have seen despair and hit a wall.  When Jupiter returns to Aquarius, we take some of that Pisces philosophical juju and bring it to Aquarius through Jupiter.  In Aquarius we look for like-minded people, we bring big ideas, we construct with others.  We aren’t just do-gooders for the sake of doing good, we want to create new solutions, new ways that are sustainable (good side of Saturn) we also take a moment and remember, “Oh, I am a human and hey you are a human, too”.  Jupiter will be in Aquarius until December 29 but unlike the first part of this year when Jupiter was in Aquarius where he had to deal with sour Saturn, this time he returns with the knowledge of Pisces.  The power of faith, the power of mystical,  even if we went to despair, now in Aquarius Jupiter tells Saturn, “We can do what it takes with others on our side, let’s team up.”  Do not be surprised if you are pulled into social events that are meaningful and you bring something important or special and you are recognized for it.

Other note: For those people who made Treasure Maps, take a moment to look at your map.  You should be seeing green shoots from the seeds you planted on the Aries New Moon.   If you want to make some small changes on your map, you can do it between New and Crescent July 13, 1:40pm PDT.

In closing,  the Cancer New Moon has many opportunities which can lead us to gifts.  The way we find the gifts is through our feelings and our ability to harness our emotions.   You can do it.    See you in Leo!

The 8 phases

Cancer  New Moon

18 Cancer 02

July 9, 2021

6:16pm PDT

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     What are your feelings telling you?  Are you snappy?  Are you lazy?  What do you need?   Are you tired?  Are you sleeping?  How are you gathering your emotions and harnessing them to work for you?

Special note:

7/11: Mercury enter Cancer

7/13:  Venus conjunction Mars.  Love meets action.  Action based on love and values.   Action for beauty and money.  Enthusiasm bounds. (see above)

Crescent Moon Phase

July 13, 2021

1:40pm PDT

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking tickets.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your daily schedule?  What are you learning about details?  What are you learning about your health management?  What are you learning about the pursuit of perfection?

Special Focus

7/15: Chiron retrograde 12 Aries 56

7/15: Sun trine Neptune.  Faith and spirit send us little prompts that can guide us and support us.

First Quarter Moon

July 17, 2021

3:10am

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that bring you balance?  What actions are you taking that support relationship(s)?  What actions are you taking that support negotiations?  What actions are you taking that require compromise?

Special Note

7/17: Sun opposite Pluto.  Emotions and family versus being out in the world and public efforts.    Teeter Totter between feelings and practical evolution.

Gibbous Moon

July 20,  2021

12:05pm EDT

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on:  How are you refining things that are ‘foreign’?  What details are you processing that expand your world?  What are you missing about your judgements?

Special focus

7/21:  Venus enters Virgo

7/22: Venus oppose Jupiter.   Details and values versus big theories and humanitarian concerns.

7/22: Sun enters Leo

Full Moon Phase –

1 Aquarius 26

July 23, 2021

7:36pm PDT

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on

Emotions versus business.  Personal versus worldly.   How do you find your business acumen while still connecting to your own personal responsibility?

Special focus

7/25: Mercury oppose Pluto.    Emotional thinking that benefits by pragmatic evolution.

.

Disseminating

July 27 , 2021

8:00am PDT

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Focus on:  How are sharing your faith?  How are you sharing your mysticism?  How are you sharing your deep humanitarianism?  How are you sharing your woo-woo?

Special focus:

7/27: Mercury enters Leo

7/28: Jupiter re-enters Aquarius (see above)

7/29: Venus square North Node.  Values that stoke pride on the grassroot, practical level need clear communication and clear thinking and perhaps some pivoting of thinking.

7/29: Mars oppose Jupiter.  Actions that come from strength and internal pride are challenged by group efforts and group thought.  Finding balance is challenging.

7/29: Mars enters Virgo

Last Quarter Moon Phase

July 31

6:15pm PDT

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:

How are your actions dependent on your personal POV?  How are you serving self in the best way possible?  How are harnessing your personal drive to take care of whatever needs fixing/improving?

Special focus

8/1: Mercury conjunction Sun.  Thoughts about creativity, self expression, being out there in a personal way that shows strength.

8/1: Mercury oppose Saturn.  Harsh thoughts.  Group thinking versus thinking that is personal.

8/1: Sun oppose Saturn.  Connecting to self talents while working with others is challenging.  Finding the in between is the good spot.

8/2: Venus trine Uranus.   Money, love have an unexpected or out of the blue perk.

8/3: Mercury Square Uranus.  Abrupt thinking and conversations.  Rebellious tones.

.

Balsamic Moon Phase

August 4

9:18am  PDT

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.

Focus on How are you releasing your nervousness?  How are you releasing your mental anxiousness? How are you releasing your non-comital?  How are you releasing gossip?

Special focus:

8/6: Sun square Uranus.  Disruptions.  Over the top versus super practical. Electrical issues.  Egos in the news.
