Aquarius New Moon– 2024

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    Groups, friends, society, weird stuff, and powerful Pluto doing its thing.    It’s all there for us to tap.  

Aquarius New Moon

Welcome to Aquarius new moon.   Let’s also welcome Chinese New Year – Year of the Wood Dragon

I’m still processing the Rabbit Year which had its own sturm und drang and I am more than ever welcoming Wood Dragon!

Landscape 

As I said in last month’s Capricorn report, the astro landscape for this year has a lot of tumult as we prepare for the second half of the decade.   In 2024, one thing that will serve all of us is using each new moons and the 29-day lunar cycle to ground down the lesson and opportunities of the sign.  There will be a stellium (several) planets in each sign at the new moons adding depth to the lunar months.   Let’s take the knowledge of these 29-day cycles and go for it!  

Aquarius: The final Air Sign

Aquarius the sign of the water bearer is not a water sign.  It is the third air sign.   The air signs are about thoughts and concepts and how we connect.   In Gemini, the first air sign, we are interested in our siblings our neighbors, hearing what’s going on at the street level.   Schooling and gossip.   We love the data.  In Libra we are interested in our relationships.  The one on one love.  Lovers and spouses but also the process of relating.  I will share this with you, will you share that with me?  There is a give and take.   Now in Aquarius our thinking and concepts are broader.  We are interested in humanity.   We lean into our friendships.  We check in to see if we are in the same head space.  We consider a lot of things that are broader than ourselves.  We wonder about the constructs that keep society afloat   Do they work?   Should some constructs be protected, and do others need to be ditched?   There is desire for connection with humanity which is a form of love, albeit cooler than romantic love.   

In the Aquarius cycle we itch to be different.  We seek independence.   We are drawn to the ‘weird’ because in that weird we see ourselves. Perhaps the part we feel but don’t share.   In Aquarius we question if elevating normal needs to be challenged.   We wonder who gets left out when normal is pedestalized?    There is so much creativity in Aquarius it can inspire us to put away our preconceptions and go for ingenuity. There is also a stubbornness to Aquarius, and some may take the rebel-without-a-cause path.  Aquarius can get loud and claim, “I’m different, do you hear me? I am different!”   That loudness masks ego and yes Aquarius like all signs can get tripped up with ego stuff even if they claim “I have zero ego.”  They do like every sign. That’s what bugs.   During this 29-day cycle humans might be annoying but humanitarianism through groups can calls us.   Coming together with one goal is Aquarius.   

Pluto in Aquarius

This Aquarius New Moon is different from any other Aquarius new moon in our lifetime.  Last month Pluto transitioned into Aquarius which has set up a twenty-year pattern where every Aquarius new moon will be informed in some measure by its number one tenant --Pluto.   Because Pluto has not been in Aquarius in the last 240 years, it is impossible to explain what that means right now in 2024.   But we do know that Pluto is very potent, and history has a clear calling card of its power.   During the last era of Pluto in Aquarius, at that first Aquarius new moon in 1778 there was a major event in the 29-day lunar cycle.  The new moon was on January 28, 1778.  About one week after the new moon on February 8 France signed a treaty with the American colonists in the war with Great Britain.   France then went on to provide supplies, arms and ammunition, uniforms, and, most importantly, troops to the beleaguered Continental Army.  One month later France declared war on Great Britain.    There is NO talking about the birth of America without the alliance with France.  Without this joint effort it is improbable that the colonists would have won the war.   This was a big deal not just for America’s but also the world’s future.   With that in mind, gulp, there may be a world event during this 29-day lunar month that will be important and era changing.  “Oh, Pluto you really know how to pull focus.”  Anyway, we will watch and see if Pluto’s calling card arrives this cycle.  

This New Moon Chart 

In the new moon chart, the Sun and Moon form a square with Uranus one of the ruling planets of Aquarius.    There is also a semi-sextile with Venus.  

Sun Moon square Uranus

Uranus is the sign of change and independence.  It is rebellious and does not like to be constrained by rules.   Uranus rules Aquarius but is in the sign Taurus which can be very rigid and stubborn especially if people are telling it to change.  It wants to do change but ….by its own hand.  Of course, Taurus stubbornness and independent Uranus plus the stridence of Aquarius could suggest an event out of the blue which shakes things up and gets everyone’s attention that a change is needed.   

It may be in the fields of tech, internet, cyber, aviation, television, streamers, or other new technologies.  This feels like a 29-day cycle where we see battles of; fast versus slow, conservative versus new, traditional versus avant-garde.  Watch the news for stories of fresh versus established and where there is a resistance to change by some folks while others say ‘tear it all down.’   Uranus rules earthquakes and electricity including bolts of lightning bolts.   Shocks and shakes may occur this cyle. We could see eccentric personalities and people who are so individualistic that it is hard to wrap our heads around them.  We are probably all benefiting by finding the middle between security and novelty but then, not everyone is in the mood for middle these days.  We may see 29 days of rigidity and then a break.  Perhaps something comes up from out of the blue and it seals the deal for a meaningful shift.     For anyone with planets at 20 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio you may be feeling the “Let’s change” very personal this cycle in a meaningful manner.   For the rest of us, we are either feeling the change or seeing it in our world and wondering how to respond. There can definitely be a feeling of ‘what’s next?’  

The Sun Moon semi sextile Venus 

While there is a roughness with the square to Uranus, we do have some kindness in the air this 29 day cycle with the Sun Moon semi sextile Venus.   It could, as we discussed be strange or odd but it is still taps the beauty of kindness.  Stories that lean into values will be in the news.  We may read a story and think, “Wow that person did that, I would never have thought of doing that but gosh that was good.”  With Aquarius it is NOT about being charming because society says to do it.   It is more authentic.  It is has a baked in desire. There is a calling for more grace in our days.   Art will be highlighted.  Humanitarian caring will be highlighted.  Even those who don’t hang out in the cheerfulness and warm corner of psyches, even they may be a bit more willing this cycle.   More refinement and good humor also come through a Venus Uranus trine.  These bountiful aspects with Venus take the edge off the harsher elements of the cycle and chart.   Phew! 

On Our Radar 

As we figure out this new placement of Pluto in Aquarius we will be informed by any aspects to Pluto from the inner planets.   There are two in the Aquarius cycle.   

Feb 13 Mars conjunction Pluto. O Aquarius 46 This can be a VERY problematic aspect.   Reminder from earlier report.   Back in mid-September last year I generated the Virgo new moon report.  At that time, I wrote this: 

“Special focus 10/8: Mars square Pluto.  Misguided wars or warriors can be troublesome in global and personal worlds.” 

Obviously, what transpired was the attack by Hamas on Israel on 10/7.   Now here we are at the next installment of Mars and Pluto.  While there could be a follow up on what occurred in Israel, to be clear that aspect had an eclipse and Pluto stationing direct all near the Mars/Pluto date.   This one on Feb 13, feels forceful, disruptive, and big but a bit different from last October.  There is a desire to be authentic for sure and a streak of independence that could be more juiced than needed.   It does have an explosive nature, but it could be more explosive in thought or an event that brings out intense thinking and conversation.   It could be something so weird or shocking that we are left with our mouths gaping.   Mars will continue in its journey in Aquarius for five weeks and there can be a lot of energy with friends and groups.  And maybe a skirmish or two in the mix.  Breathe.  Breath always helps with air signs.

Feb 17 Venus conjunction Pluto.   Venus the planet of love forms a conjunction with Pluto once a year.   This is where the power of love or the love of power show up.   In the sign of Aquarius, the love and joy and the art of valuing something that is different is empowering.   Odd and weird and the humanity call to us.   For others who lean into obsessiveness, controlling, manipulating  through love is problematic and probably not welcomed.    Just sayin’ 

All Planets Direct 

On January 26 our final retrograde planet, Uranus, stationed direct.   Once he got his planet ass headed in the forward motion that meant that ALL planets are now direct.   We may find things speeding up.  It may show up in the mundane world for all to see but that speed up could be relevant in our personal lives as well.   Maybe some hurdles evaporate or get easier.   Or some knowledge becomes available that had been cloaked.   Or resources become available.   Or perhaps we have a whole plan in place, and we learn that a person, fact, agenda important to our plan is cracked or maybe not as above board as we thought or perhaps just obsolete.  Watch what comes up between now and April 1st and make the most of the successes and opportunities.  Breathe and pivot from anything that may feel like a set back and consider if it might be fortuitous in the future. 

Treasure map tune in

Back at the Aries New Moon in 2023 we launched our treasure maps.  We took the time then at the beginning of the western astrological lunar year to contemplate what we want for the next year.  Aries to Aries.   Our treasure maps have two more lunar months to manifest more of our map.  I had one year where the biggest pieces of my map showed up in the final weeks of the treasure year.   Now in this last quarter of the zodiac we take time to clear out our spaces.  We look at our homes and take things to the trash, recycle center, charity center or the shop to be repaired.  We look at some of our thinking and ask if those thoughts are helpful to our lives.   We begin to declutter our lives so that by the time we get to April 8, the next Treasure Map we have clear spaces physically and mentally and emotionally.   Bring out the broom! 

In Closing: 

The gift of Aquarius is the ability to tap into our uniqueness and bringing it to the party.  We can show up with others when we connect through our heart and our brains.   Pluto is guiding the conversation around Aquarius but at the end of its cycle in 2043 we will have all learned the power of groups and building our society in the manner that we want now.   See what comes up this cycle that taps you to do something in a different manner and you will know ---“Oh, I guess Pluto is calling”  

Enjoy the weird world even if it sometimes seems scary.  Grab a friend’s hand and figure a way through it all.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more results.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:    Where am I being guided by authentic albeit weird self?  What do my friends have to say about my value?  How do I value my friends and groups?  How do I fit into my society?  Is it working?  What part of me needs some creativity and ingenuity?  How am I finding my power in society? 

Special note:

2/10: Mercury square Jupiter.  Thoughts feel juiced up.  But big opinions know matter how much they feel good to express may cause more problems.  Are you up for it?   Perhaps.  Or perhaps no.  

Crescent Moon Phase

February 12, 2024

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about self-agency?  What are you learning about how your independence is important to any group you interact?  How is the inner fire in your belly is informing you?  

Special Focus

2/12: Mars enter Aquarius.   Energy around and with groups and friends for five weeks.  Feeling the need to do stuff with others.  Even squabbles seem okay.  

2/13:  Venus sextile Neptune.  Very creative, gentleness and humanitarianism.   Love of the other and love of humanity.  

2/13 : Mars conjunction Pluto (see above) 

2/15 : Mercury sextile North Node.  Our thoughts of independence could be fulfilling an important need.  Getting out there with our fire in the belly starts with thinking about it. 

First Quarter Moon 

February 16, 2024

7:00am PST 

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  How are you taking actions that support your finances?  How is group effort important to your own resources?   What actions are you taking that is building something from the ground up that benefits by the effort of friends?    

Special Note

2/16:  Venus enter Aquarius.  Love of human and humanitarian.  Friends and groups are important for the next month.   

2/16: Mercury square Uranus.  Rigid thinking.  Stalemate of ideas.  Philosophical differences and strident conversations. 

2/17: Venus conjunct Pluto (see above) 

2/18: Sun enters Pisces.  Happy birthday to our fish friends. 

2/19: North node conjunct chiron.  It is hard being independent and leaning into number 1.  But there are times we need to do it.  See how the fire in the belly takes care of you presents itself. 

Gibbous Moon

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your emotions?  How are you refining your home?   How does a refinement of emotions and home impact friends and associates?  What part of ‘group’ thinking is in your home? 

Special focus

2/21: Venus conjunct Mars.  Sexuality high.  Love and sex are pronounced.  Being action oriented on matters of things we love.  Loving things that bring us energy.  

2/22: Mercury enters Pisces.  Thoughts are gentle, artistic, kind, welcoming and somewhat vague and fuzzy.

Full Moon

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:   How does your schedule reflect your values?   How does your to-do list show who you are?  How can you be more supportive to your diet and better health practices?  

Special focus 

2/24: Venus square Jupiter.  Big money, big love, big art, big could be too big.  Big opinions squash love, art and may not be in synch with values. 

2/27: Mars square Jupiter.  Banking and money matters feel squeezed. Action conflicts with big ass opinions.   Actions that could be righteous.  Zealotry problematic.  

2/28: Mercury conjunct Sun.  Spirituality and faith are on our minds and discussions. Thoughts that lean into kindness and humanity. 

2/28 : Mercury conjunct Saturn.  Restricted thoughts, conservative thinking feel safe.  Faith feels safe in a structure manner that is easy to understand.

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:   How are you sharing your relationships?  How are you sharing your skills in relationships?   How are you sharing your ability to be fair?  Where are you sharing the power in negotiations?  

Special focus:

2/28 : Sun conjunct Saturn. How is discipline and faith important to our actions with groups? 

2/29: Mercury sextile Jupiter.  Joyful thoughts, big adventures both in reality and thinking.  Broadening our thoughts that bring hope.  

2/29: Venus sextile North Node. Love, money, creative endeavors are boosted by our need to project ourselves and tap the fire in the belly. 

3/1: Sun sextile Jupiter.  Joy and pleasure come with big ideas, big fresh new adventures both in physical and mental form. 

3/3: Venus square Uranus.  Love feels blocked. Fear of the weird or the untraditional.  Lack of trust.  Note--no amount of spending money will fix the insecure feeling.  Breathe.

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

What actions can you take that speak to the seeds you planted on new moon that connect you with likeminded groups?  Where is the practicality of your actions that support community?

Focus on:  How are you releasing your insecurity?   How are you releasing misguided ambitions?   How are you releasing status?

3/8: Mercury conjunct Neptune.  Deception and conversation that is not transparent can be a problem.  Intuition could feel overwhelmed.  Prayers may help.  Art is very helpful to release the stress. 

3/9: Mars Square Uranus. Disruptive and problematic actions that could be very troublesome.    Drive carefully. 

3/9: Sun sextile Uranus.  Creativity is rich.  New sources of money and resources may become available.  

3/9: Mercury enters Aries.  Energized thinking, short and quick conversations.  Fire in the belly conversations.  Thoughts that get us to get up and go!
