Capricorn New Moon– 2022

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    How do you climb new heights?  Where do you need to find your ambition (perhaps again) to improve your life and your community?    Let’s not pity party, shall we?  And instead get on with it.   

Capricorn New Moon

Welcome to Capricorn New Moon & Happy New Year.

This year Capricorn New Moon is close to our calendar New Year of January 1, which might bring a little extra enthusiasm to the New Moon.   Yay.  

For those of us who make treasure maps, we know that the Cap new moon starts the final quarter of the cycle we launched last April.  Take time to look at your map.  Enjoy any successes and remember that we have three months for results to continue to emerge.   I have had maps that had major movement the final quarter of the map year.    Enjoy your map on this new moon.  

Capricorn is the final cardinal sign of the zodiac which emphasizes actions.   It’s not a sign of theories or concepts it is a sign of doing, specifically hard work.  When we tap our Capricorn, we find our focus and can go with less and take on more responsibility to reach a goal.  Capricorn, the goat, can climb great heights.   Goats at high altitude climb from one peak to another living on twigs and lichen while other animals need to stay at lower elevation since their lungs and heart can’t sustain the height and they are nourished by fattier foods.   They are incapable of the view from peaks like mountain goat Capricorn who has the advantage since he can see the whole lay of the land.   Capricorn or people with strong Saturn placement in their chart understand the gift that come with discipline and the importance of being able to see views from elevated places.   During this 29-day cycle we can reach to find our inner goat and consider what is worth doing and what we are willing to give up for greater success.   Never underestimate the ambition of Capricorn.  

During the Capricorn cycle we mature up.   We get our adult on.   We look to the future; we seek long term solutions.  We put away the fun and games and instead have fun planning concrete solutions for goals.  We find the fun in responsibility.    We know the importance of eating our vegetables before our desserts.  We enjoy paying our bills. 

Before we discuss the aspects of the new moon chart, we need to talk about Pluto.   You know that person in your life who seems to always get attention in a crowded room.  They are the person who seems to always have a moment where everyone in the house is looking for that person’s car keys or some lost something.   They just know how to pull focus in the weirdest ways.   In the case of this 29-day cycle, that oxygen suck is Pluto.  

Although, Pluto is not forming any aspects with the Sun and Moon, Pluto is a significant player in this cycle as he was in the last month and as he will be in February.   Venus retrograde is close to Pluto and she hits him three times during her retrograde.  Mercury who will be retrograding is also turning around near Pluto and has three hits on Pluto spanning three months.   Pluto will find any weakness in any foundation.   Once it is exposed then we can decide how to heal it.   Pluto is also good at hiding but given Mercury and Venus are driving over Pluto several times, it will make hiding Pluto’s misdeeds difficult.    You may be driven to find weaknesses and fix a situation.   Pluto is hyper focus, ocd-ish, dedicated to any tasks.  We could get obsessed about an issue.   Capricorn speaks to systems and structures.  Any weaknesses in systems or structures will be in the news and probably observable in our own lives during the 29-day cycle.  

On the Capricorn New Moon chart there is a Sun/Moon trine Uranus.   Saturn is also still in close square to Uranus from the last hit on Christmas Eve.   These aspects color the 29-day cycle.   Additionally, there are three planets changing directions (Mercury, Venus, Uranus).

This is an interesting New Moon chart and when you consider it is the opening chart for a new year it seems auspicious.   The Sun and Moon in an easy aspect with Uranus suggests that we have a gift, the ability to change may be doable. Even for those of us who resist changes.     Uranus is the planet of mixing things up, he is the planet of revolution.  But he is also genius, brilliant and creative.   For this 29-day Capricorn cycle, we may be struck by unusual thoughts and situations.   Weird will be highlighted.   But it is not just weird for weird sakes.  The novel idea could provide new thinking and approaches that will later be solutions.   If Capricorn is anything it is the sign that speaks to having a sense of one’s own agency.  Making choices out of our freewill to take control of our life and future is Capricorn.    While we mull a lot about going forward, Uranus may whisper to us that there could be opportunities in unusual ways.   Given Capricorn is associated with career, some people may get job offers in places or companies that they never considered.   Globally, in the news, there might be big changes or opportunity for change in both Big Business and Big Government (both Capricorn).   The economy may experience some big moves during this cycle especially when Uranus turns direct later in the month.   

Saturn, the chart ruler still in aspect with Uranus does suggest that we are still feeling the tension of holding on to status quo versus throwing out the old and starting new.   Where is the middle ground?    Jupiter in Pisces is spreading compassion, perhaps we will be less in the fighting mode this 29-day cycle?   Finding shared values with others could be a good start.

Venus speaks to our values, and it continues to be retrograde which started in December and lasts through most of this 29-day cycle.   As we discussed, Venus turned retrograde on Pluto in Capricorn.   Venus trapped in Capricorn for extended period is not Venus at its most comfortable.   Venus who likes things that are pretty and fun and light is not getting her way during this retrograde.  She is finding value in being responsible and showing up and doing hard work.    She is finding value in ‘less is more’.   She brings a smiling face to tough situations.   That is a gift.  Venus formed a conjunction with Pluto on Dec 11, Dec 25 and then will have the final hit on March 3.   The drive to understand what we value is paramount.   By the time Venus stations direct on January 29^th we will all be a bit wiser to what is important to us and what is silly.   Oh ‘eff it’ will be said a lot between now and then and especially by the time Venus exits the shadow on March 1.

All the mercury retrogrades in 2022 will start in air signs and then re-enter earth signs.   Our thinking (air) could hit some snags with practical applications (earth) that go a bit askew.   Mercury in Aquarius is far out thinking.   Creative, visionary, odd, and weird connections are made when Mercury is in progressive Aquarius.  There is an accent on group causes and fellowships along with technological pursuits.   Once Mercury stations we will stress test all our plans and all our communications.  This mercury retrograde will speak to internet and cyber communication.   Blogs will get stuff wrong.   Big time.   Take care with anything you repeat, double check all facts and then double check then again.   Protect all your passwords and back up your data before the station retrograde.    Once Mercury returns to Capricorn we will once again have to think about our thinking.  Had we gone too far out on some subject?  Do we need to reel it back?  Mercury in Capricorn lives for practical thinking that make long term sense.   Watch what comes up in your life that you were sure was filled intrigue and drama and consider that the simple answer may be the most accurate.    It could all be Occam’s Razor.  

Take care of your brain.   If you need to give yourself a mental break, do it.

Uranus stations direct just a few days after Mercury stations retrograde.    Two planets changing direction close to one another impacts the energy of a week.  Mercury and Uranus speak to our mental agility with Uranus being the higher octave of Mercury.   Mercury is focused on our conversations and the doings of our personal life.  Errands, calling people, going here and there.  That’s Mercury.  Uranus is the thoughts that impact society.  Big ideas that impact big groups that’s Uranus.   Mercury turns retrograde at 10 Aquarius 20.   Which is close to a perfect square with Uranus at 10 Taurus 49.  It is not exact but had Mercury waited a day later to change direction the two would have been at perfect square.  In this case it is close enough to count and brings an added tension.  Some things could come, from out of the blue that pushes us to find our flexibility.    Perhaps again, we are getting too far out in some thinking that is missing the point.   Something rigid needs new growth.   Finding flexibility starts with willingness first.  Between January 14 and 18^th big issues could come up and frustrate us on a level that is totally exhausting.   We may get to a point where we feel like giving up.  Instead, we may just need to take a beat and take some time to process.    Real solutions will slowly unfold and we may need to get past the square that perfects on Feb 24^th.  Uranus will continue on its journey until its next retrograde in August.  

True North Node enters Taurus. 

January 18

We are here.   The North node and its opposite south node are officially out of Gemini & Sagittarius and now in Taurus and Scorpio.   We are out of theories and now we are focused practical applications. 

Taurus North Node wants security.   It wants to feel grounded.  It also wants the security of love and beauty.   How that is defined is always the big question.   We will learn more by the time of the partial eclipse April 30.   Financial matters may come up in the news around Jan 18. 

Finally, 

It is interesting that two iconic Christmas stories feature Capricorn characters.     In Charles Dickens (1843) story “A Christmas Carol,” Ebenezer Scrooge, the tight miser learns the truth that the power of human love is more important than wealth.  In the 1946 movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life” Mr. Potter is a revisit of the Scrooge character who puts money before human love.  Both reflect the negative side of Capricorn.   Cold, ambitious without heart this is the unprocessed side of Capricorn.    When Capricorn has low self-esteem, it tries to mask the hole with ‘accomplishments’ that ultimately are not satisfying.    Mr. Potter, the wealthiest man in Bedford Falls was at the end of the day jealous of banker George Bailey who had less money but all the respect of the town folk.   One can argue that George Bailey also displays the character of Capricorn.  Hard working, thinking for the best for the community.   George wanted to go away and have adventures and travel the world, but instead he stayed home because the town needed him.  He understood responsibility.   Humble, hardworking, nose to the ground, George took care of his family and his whole community.   He was a town leader without making it his business to be a leader.  He found what he valued and focused on it and from that he was respected and loved.   May we all find our inner George Bailey this 29-day cycle.    It could be important as the year unfolds.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     What areas of your life need ambition?  What do you need to do to get to higher ground?  Where do you need discipline and focus to reach goals that are important to you?

Jan 2: Mercury trine N Node. Creative and dynamic conversations that open door of new perspective 

Jan 3. Jupiter square Nodes.   Mental creativity but watch fuzzy and stretched logic.  Where are facts?   What adjustments to beliefs are begging to made based on information received of late. 

Jan 5: Venus sextile Neptune.  Gifts from deepening and leaning into the grey and fuzzy.  Leaning into subtlety and nuance. Synchronist events around values.  

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your faith?  What are you learning about the Nonmaterial world?   What are you learning about worlds behind other worlds?   What are you learning about intuition?   What are you learning about faith?   

Special Focus

Jan 8: Sun conjunction Venus.   Love, money, pleasure, joy and values come to the forefront ---but they are sensible, pragmatic, not particularly romantic.  Learning something about all of the above.  

Jan 9:  Mercury sextile Chiron.  New thoughts about self.  Putting self-first happens in the brain first.  

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that lean into your personality?  What actions are you taking that push your identity?   What actions are you doing that take care of self?  

Special Note

Jan 10:  Sun sextile Neptune:   Creativity is high with practical application.   Reality meets dreams and imagination.  Maturity meets creativity. 

Jan 11: Mars square Neptune:   Actions based on what?  Are you being given the straight info?  Intuition is high but actions need to be thought out.   Fuzzy action and motives.

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your language?  How are you using discrimination in your communication?  How are you finding details in information you are learning or sharing? 

Special focus

Jan 14:   Mercury retrograde.  10 Aquarius 20 (see above) 3:41am

Jan 16:  Sun conjunct Pluto.  The shadows in our hearts, psyches, reality are pricked.  What’s transparent?  What’s hidden?  Sunlight is the greatest antiseptic.   New growth needs real structure.

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

The Cancer Full Moon.   How are our emotions reminding us of something important?    What do our feelings motivate in us?   How is family influencing us?  Even if family does not look like the family from our past, who is it influencing us?

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your refinement abilities?  How are you sharing the importance of discretion?  How are you sharing the power of a well-run schedule?   How are you sharing technical and details that other people may be missing?  

Special focus:

Jan 24: Mars enters Capricorn.  Pragmatic actions.  Actions that support greater goals.  Business and moving out into the world actions are highlighted.  

Last Quarter Moon Phase

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

How do you own power and act on it?   How do you access your empowerment?  What actions do you need to take that speak to letting something die so something new can emerge?   What actions are you taking that speak to shared finances?
