Capricorn NEW MOON 2019 & Solar Eclipse

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    Getting pragmatic by letting our emotions tell us where to focus.  And yes, we are focused.

Capricorn New Moon & Solar Eclipse

What a nice Capricorn New Moon!   There’s a sentence one doesn’t read often.   But it is true, this new moon has a lot of good in it.  

The Capricorn New Moon chart is also a solar eclipse.  This is not a total eclipse; it is an annual eclipse and wraps up our final (5^th) eclipse for 2019.  Although it may not have as much bang as a total eclipse it does has a punch.   Eclipses occur in cycles and we are half- way through this Cancer/Capricorn cycle where we are processing our emotional nature (Cancer) with our pragmatic nature (Capricorn).  It is not enough to let our emotions drive the show by pushing us up high, high, high or dragging us down, down, down.  At the same time, it is not enough to only be focused on doing ‘what’s practical’.  The ideal landing spot is to let our emotions speak to us, tell us our values and then use our sensible, no-nonsense logical abilities to find solutions or help us reach goals that support our values.    This period of emotional/practicality will wrap on July 4^th, so we still have the time to receive the gifts of this process.    Lessons learned now on this eclipse could ripple out for the next six months. 

In the new moon chart, the sun/moon are in conjunction with Jupiter and trine Uranus.   Both put emphasis on the opportunity of changes and broadening our world.    

Capricorn’s nature is to conserve, refrain from risks, be measured, be practical.  It also has deep seated insecurities that can be haunting.  Even when no one sees weaknesses or self- doubt, it is in there.   Because of its cautious nature, Capricorn is not associated with going large or big and certainly is not one to gamble.  However, the Capricorn energy will take a chance on something it feels it can manage.  It will take small risks towards a bigger goal.  It is a practical visionary and can, with hard work and discipline, see a path to success.   Jupiter on the other hand will, if left to its own devices, bet the farm on just about anything it ‘feels’ will bring him luck.   As you can imagine the Capricorn energy is not well suited to Jupiter. However, Jupiter in Capricorn mutes a lot of Jupiter’s risky nature and in fact can bring a real thoughtful perspective.   Jupiter comes into the scene and turns on a light switch and where we had not considered this or that, Jupiter says, “What about ____?”  and it is a real opportunity.    Jupiter provides doorways that can start by a philosophical change or new approach.  

Watch what comes up during this 29- day cycle.  You may have someone say, “Hey do you want to _____?”  and it was something that you never even heard about or if you did hear of it you never considered it in a real way but now in this measured, restrained lunar cycle, it actually makes sense.   You may see the longer vision in things or situations.   This is the perk to Jupiter being in sour puss Capricorn, who brings a thoughtful cool practicality to Jupiter’s over-abundance.    Mr. Scrooge meets PT Barnum and they build something solid and good.   Yes, it can happen.

In the meantime, we have Uranus in Taurus doing its thing.   As we know Uranus moved into Taurus in 2019 and will be here until 2026 and this is the first Capricorn New Moon to trine Uranus.   Uranus is also a risk taker.  It likes to mix things up, shake off the dust and re-think everything.    Once again sober, measured, Sun/Moon in Capricorn are getting a little push by a rebel rouser, Uranus to “mix it up”.   Opportunities out of the blue may be revealed in the 29- day cycle.   Unusual approaches and solutions or unique openings could pop up.   Something that feels like a fresh start may show up during this cycle.   There is also a possibility of a business opportunity or new way to bring in money.    

Smack in the Center 

While this new moon is lovely and optimistic and has opportunities, it is taking place in an extraordinary time centered around the full moon which has a lot of action and tension.  

Here’s the list of events:

1/10 Lunar Eclipse 11:21am PST (20 Cancer 00) 

1/10 Uranus station direct (2 Taurus 38) 5:47pm PST

1/11 Mercury conjunct Saturn.  

1/12 Mercury conjunct Pluto. 

1/12 Saturn conjunct Pluto  

1/13 Sun conjunct Pluto.  

1/13 Sun conjunct Saturn.  

Let’s tackle the easy ones first.  Mercury conjuncts (gets on top of) Saturn & Pluto once a year.    But because Saturn is so close to Pluto right now (which is rare) we are getting this once a year aspect right next to another once a year aspect (11^th & 12^th).  Communication and thinking will be intense, dark, our brains will be like a detective, suspicious, prying, trying to figure out motives.  We will also be figuring out responsibility whether it is our own or someone else’s.   God help anyone who drops the ball at this time.    Mentally we feel like we are between a rock and a hard place and we are figuring out a way to climb out.  We seek a mental evolution.  

The Sun also gets on these planets once a year, so it too is bringing its own light to Saturn and Pluto on the 13^th.   Respect, responsibility, practicality and leadership are all pronounced.   We may find ourselves standing up and saying, “Okay I can do that one.”    Even those people who are super shy and very reserved may finally crack and say, “I gotta do something.”   This ‘something’ could be super personal that no one knows but you.  It could involve a small circle of family and friends.   It could involve a circle at work.   It could involve a neighborhood.  It could involve civic engagement.   It is as if everyone gets a chiropractic adjustment on some issue resulting in us standing a little straighter and saying, “It’s time.”  

Pulling out from the inner planets, to the outer guys--Uranus is stationing direct on the 10^th.   Uranus turned retrograde on August 11 at 6 degrees of Taurus.  How have you been processing your money, investments, security, things that make you feel ‘solid’ since August?   Have the last five months been giving you confidence that you are in good shape?  Or are you feeling exposed and vulnerable?   Uranus is the planet of innovation.  Now that it is turning direct you may feel motivated to find a new approach to your finances, your investments and things that bring security.  Has there been a brilliant idea you have been sitting on?   Once Uranus turns direct consider the ideas you have been percolating.  Test drive those ideas, talk to friends.  Get some feedback.  Do some research.     Uranus in Taurus for the next seven years could bring fluctuation to economies and earth changes.  The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1934-1942 it was a time of the great dust bowl, major floods and famines and other weather extremes.  There also was a rise of dictators like, you- know- who in Germany and the other power jerks in Italy, Spain and Russia who all liked to grab land and resources.   Those who survived this rough period were nimble and ingenious.   What curious thought or idea did you have in the last five months that now as you consider it could possibly be your ingenuity?   Might it serve you (or the world) if you pursue it?   

And then there is….

Saturn conjunct Pluto, January 12 (8:59am PST).  This is one rare bird of an aspect.  We have been talking about it all 2019.  The last time Saturn got on top of Pluto was 1982 before that round was 1951.   It is a once a thirty- year event.   However, the last time the two of them got together in Capricorn was 1518.    So, here we are five hundred years later doing it again.  On that round the world got Martin Luther who said, “Hmm maybe it is time to do religion different” and sadly about six months after the aspect King Charles I commenced taking enslaved Africans to the Americas.  His edict changed history and arguably is still felt today.   Never underestimate the power of Saturn conjunct Pluto.    Personally, if you know your chart you should see what house has 22 degrees of Capricorn.    If you don’t know your chart you are feeling it.   Where are you tired of monkeying around?  Where do you feel like you are wasting time?  Where do you feel you need to get real results?   Where are you feeling like you need to step up and ‘do something’?  This is no day in the country aspect but at the same time it is not focused on one narrow window of January 12^th it is and has been felt for months and will continue after the date but take note of any energy shift around the 12^th.  

Kicking off all these aspects will be the full moon lunar eclipse on the 10^th at 20 degrees Cancer.  We look to our emotions for guidance on the Cancer full moon and when it is an eclipse the emotions have even more profound insights.  It is not necessarily a time to collapse into the emotions since the Sun in Capricorn asks for discipline and pragmatism.  But whatever the emotions are ‘telling’ you, should not be ignored.  Just be practical when looking for results or fixes.   It is interesting that every day of the three-day lunar full moon phase has a strong aspect.   It may be a case of ‘I have one nerve left and you are standing on it’ –every day.   But do the best you can to process the emotions and move quick on your pragmatistic nature.   There is something for you to learn. 

In conclusion, 

We are in extraordinary times and 2020 will have a lot of astrological action.   It is interesting that we go into 2020 with this Capricorn 29- day lunar cycle resplendent with opportunities but still in a time that asks much of us.   It is as if we are being given a beautiful shiny exciting boat.   Great cabins, strong navigational device but we are heading into squalls.   If we all keep our hands on the rudder, we should be okay riding the waves.  Just be nimble, it’s the practical advice and god knows Capricorn lives to be practical.   See you in a month at Aquarius New Moon.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:  How are you pragmatic?  Where are you feeling compelled to ‘straighten out and fly right?”   What is the practical solution?  What is calling you to open up your approach and find a new ingenuity?  What problem can be turned into a new opportunity?   

Special focus:

12/27: Sun conjunct Jupiter:  It may be muted, but there is an optimism that cannot be denied.   Hold it in your heart.  You’ll know what it means to you. 

12/28: Mercury enters Capricorn

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning your friends?  What are you learning about being connected to ‘like-minded’ people?   What info speaks to your ideals and how they align with your circles?

12/30: Mercury trine Uranus.  New thoughts.  Breakout thinking.  Unique practical communication.   

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions can you take that speak to your independence?  What are you doing that breaks you free?   Free from whatever it is that needs your liberation.   What are doing that speaks to your leadership?   What are you doing that speaks to independence?

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your communication?  How are you being picky about what you think and speak?  How are you dotting all your I’s and crossing all your Ts when you communicate?  How are you refining issues in your neighborhood?  How are you refining issues with your siblings? 

Special focus

1/10: Sun conjunct Mercury: Enlightened thinking that speaks to your position in the world. 

Full Moon Phase

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

What are your roots telling you?  What is your relationship with your family?  The family you were born into or the family you created--- how are they impacting you?   When you reflect on your place in the world and your place in your family –where are the similarities?  Where is one getting more attention than the other?   What is going on with your food?

This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing the importance of schedules?  How are you learning from others the power of a tidy calendar?  How about a strong diet?  A strong physical activity program?  How are you sharing your own successes in these areas?

Last Quarter Moon Phase

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”
