Aquarius New Moon– 2022

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    How do you find your unique voice? How do you bring it to community?   Are you still insisting you don’t like groups or need friends?  “Hah! Try again,” says this new moon.

Hello to Aquarius New Moon and in Chinese New Year welcome to Water Tiger!  There will be many festivities across planet Earth this week.   May your Tiger roar be heard in 2022! 

As for our new moon, first it should be noted that the ancient ruling planet for Aquarius is Saturn, and its modern ruling planet is Uranus.     In this Aquarius new moon chart, both planets are highlighted.   Saturn is in conjunction (on top of) the sun and the moon.  And squaring the sun and moon is Uranus.   A new moon can happen at any point between 0 and 29 degrees and yet, here we are on January 31 (PST) with a new moon at a degree so perfectly placed that it has Saturn on top of it and Uranus at a right angle.    It is almost as if Saturn and Uranus knew the importance of the Aquarius New Moon, and neither was going to let it unfold without their influence.  They appear to be planetary chaperones setting the tone for 29 days. 

Aquarius is the final air sign of the zodiac.   With the element of air, we are focused on thoughts and communication and other people.  In Gemini, the first air sign, we are focused on our siblings and our neighbors.  In Libra, the second air sign we are focused on our partners and how we relate with others, one on one.   Now in Aquarius, the final air sign, we are looking at our outer circles of community.  We process the groups of people from which we connect, our FB friends our swim friends at the pool, our video game community to our political circles or bowling league.  We give energy into and gain from community, this is one of the gifts of Aquarius.  

The importance of community is well known.   It has a direct bearing on health.   We know that Blue Zones are where people live the longest and have active, engaged fulfilling lives way past their mid 70s (which is the life expectancy in many countries).  While diet and exercise are critical, equally import is community.  These Blue Zoners are not just reliant on family for engagement they have others. A net of community is beyond their spouse or sibling.  Community is often what gives them the reason to get up in the morning.     

Saturn the planet of restriction and discipline entered Aquarius when Covid shuttered the world.  We have all had to think about community and loneliness (perfect Saturn in Aquarius) since Saturn went into Aquarius.  Who we rely upon and who we show up for continues to morph and will probably unfold at least as long as Saturn is in Aquarius (March of 2023).   On this New Moon we may ask a lot of questions about our friends, our community and circles.  Are they life fulfilling?  Do they bring out are best?   Do we bring out the best in our friends or our communities?    What kind of discipline are we using to create our own Blue Zone?  What feels off in our circles?  Where are we lonely?  Where are we thriving?  Who gets us?  

Uranus and Saturn spent all of 2021 in each other’s cross hairs.  The fight between status quo and doing something new or innovative was seen in public arenas but also felt internally for many people.  On some level we could feel like the squirrel in the Ice Age movies holding onto the nut for dear life or we could feel like saying, ‘eff it’ and just want to load up the car and get out of Dodge.    The tension of Saturn and Uranus continues all of 2022 (even if it is not an exact hit as in 2021) and will culminate in the fall where the tension will be very pronounced.    Uranus on this New Moon chart reminds us that we are not done looking for new ways and new options to enrich our life and in our community.        

Part of the Saturn and Uranus dance speaks to resources.  Money will be in our conversations but we take note of  resources in our personal coffers and in our community.   Perhaps you don’t have enough money for Uber or Lyft account but maybe you have several people you can tap for a ride when you are stuck.   This Saturn/Uranus dance is pointing out what we have and where we have not.  We will also be aware those who have not.  Uranus is helping us figure out a new innovative way to go forward.   But Saturn reminds us we must take care that others don’t lose.  

On a real deep level, this 29-day Aquarius lunar month gives us permission to be unique, lean into our individuality and of course be ‘weird’.   Aquarius energy is refreshing on how it is so comfortable in the role of iconoclast. It truly doesn’t give a fig about being different and what people think about that difference.    Take some of the liberation of Aquarius this cycle and see if it opens new empowerment and new circles for you.    

Of course, with Aquarius, take care that you are not leaning into Aquarius’ famous stubbornness.   The square with Uranus suggests this is not the time to be rigid.  Success comes with some malleability.   Uranus knows the value of moving quick and not hanging on to a thought, behavior, habit, thing, way past its prime.    Be prepared to pivot a lot in these 29 days.   

Aquarius is the sign of new technology, such as aeronautics, cyber, www, computers, social media (to some degree), etc.    Given the tension between Saturn and Uranus there may be big news events around these matters during this 29 day cycle.    Also, with Uranus in Taurus there has been a voluminous discussions about the viability of crypto currency.    While it could turn out to have a place in the future, Saturn square Uranus may be slowing crypto down until the kinks (and scammers) are worked out.     

Mercury Station Direct & All planets Direct Motion 

DATES: 

December 29: Mercury shadow 25 Capricorn 

January 14:  Mercury station retrograde 10 Aquarius 20

January 25:  Mercury re-enters Capricorn 

Feb 3:  Mercury stations direct 24 Capricorn 23

Feb 14: Mercury re-enters Aquarius 

Feb 23:  Mercury exits shadow 

While the moon is still in the new phase, Mercury ends its retrograde and stations direct.  

Once Mercury turns direct, we will be in a very nice window where there are no planets in retrograde motion until Pluto turns retrograde on April 29.  

It is interesting that the last planet to station direct is Mercury. Mercury is connected to our thinking and our communicating.    In many ways, Mercury is like the commander at launch control, connecting all the divisions, getting all the feedback, making sure all thinking is aligned and then shouts, “Go for launch”.     

Once Mercury stations direct, we should start to see things speed up.  All the planets will move forward, communicating with each other through aspects.  The inner planets will touch the outer planets and information will be downloaded on some level.   During this 29 day cycle the Sun, Mercury, Mars and Venus will rub up against Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune & Pluto.  Given everyone is flying straight, there may be a lot of fresh information coming through these aspects.   You will see those aspects laid out below in the 8-phase report.  

In terms of the knowledge, what we learned during Mercury’s retrograde, should be considered.   Anything that came up since January 14 may be revisited.   Was there stuff out of sight that turned out later to be important?  Was transparency lacking in a way that would have benefited you?  How did those in community and authority step up and do the right thing?   How did they not step up and showed lack of proper leadership?   Did you show up for others?  Or did you miss the mark?   Lots will unfold once Mercury stations direct and of course when it returns to Aquarius on Feb 14 and leaves the shadow on Feb 23.   We have a lot to process.  

And then there is Venus 

During the previous Capricorn 29 cycle Venus was retrograde then on January 14, Venus station direct at 11 Capricorn 05.   On November 9 last year Venus formed a trine with Uranus and in December and January when Venus moved back in degrees and got super close to forming another exact trine with Uranus, it did not do the deed.   It got close but not all the way.   Venus trine Uranus is a lovely aspect that leans into doing things in new ways, being adventurous with love.  It sparks a new way to love.  It certainly speaks to creative break throughs.   Although, this aspect did not repeat, the trine is in the new moon chart.   Our ability to love and be loved can be refreshed during this 29-day lunar cycle.  Our artistic and creative natures will be stoked and there can be some helpful stimulation with money and even beauty during this cycle.  It is a lovely energy to cut any of the tension.    

USA & Pluto 

I have been discussing the USA Pluto return for a couple of years.   As we know there are three dates in 2022 where Pluto will be exactly where it was on July 4, 1776, at the signing of the Declaration of Independence.   Feb 22, July 11 and December 28.   As I mentioned last month, because Pluto’s orbit is a bit wonky there is some debate in astrological circles about the dates being in 2022 or instead 2024.  But in truth no one is getting that worked up because, well, because it is Pluto.   Pluto has a long punch.  The bottom line is that Pluto will be grinding it out in the USA for a couple years no matter what date is exact, and it already started years ago when Pluto moved into Cap in 2008.  

Given the USA influence in the world (either pluses or minuses) it does not really matter if you are or not an American, we are all in this profound experience together.    Let’s all take a breath and watch this space.    

In Conclusion: 

There is a tension in the Aquarius 29-day cycle but it is not overwhelming.    It will be a challenging time for those people who insist they are not ‘joiners’ and can only see ‘community’ as defined by what they join or not join.   Community is a bit more nuanced than joining, it is about showing up and participating and bringing the gift of our unique voice to others.   During, this 29-day cycle, use the gift of Venus and the love she brings to find a new way to bring the love of circles into your life and for you to show up and bring your own love.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     Who are your circles?  Who is your community?  What is the social net from which you glean empowerment?   How is your unique albeit weird voice amplified?   How are you mingling with others?   Plant seeds to expand your circle.

Feb 4: Mars sextile Jupiter.  Actions that are productive and tap into humanitarian, arts, spiritual themes. 

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your independence or lack of it?  What are you learning about where you need to carve your own route?  What are you learning about survival?   Where do you need first time actions?  How is your unique voice important for independence? 

Special Focus

Feb 4: Sun conjunct Saturn.  Focused energy that may feel austere but can be productive.  Up for the hard work. 

Feb 6: Mars square Chiron.  Finding actions that are results oriented that also speak to personal needs is a struggle.  New growth feels thwarted.  

Feb 8: Mars trine Uranus.  Actions that are dynamic and have an out of the blue element.   Novelty and unique approaches and changes are highlighted. 

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that can be built upon later?  Where do you need help from like-minded people to help you build your own wealth?   What is your inventory of resources?   How can you improve upon it?  

Special Note

Feb 11: Mercury conjunct Pluto.  Leaning into intense thinking and analysis.  Themes that emerged around Dec 30 and Jan 28 could repeat.   This is the final round of this aspect for this year.  

Feb 11: Mercury trine North Node.  One of our first planet aspects with the new placement of North Node was 1/26 and now a revisit.    Knowledge stimulated on themes of money, properties, hedging bets that strengthen resources.

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining your emotions?  How are you using your emotions with more discretion?  How are you fine tuning your family or your interactions with your family?

Feb 14: Mercury enters Aquarius 

Feb 15:  Sun Square North Node.  Challenges between groups and personal interests. Community, resources, friends, money, like minded and money themes can be pronounced. 

Feb 16: Mars conjunct Venus.   Energy around matters of love.  How has love and matters of values morphed in the last two months?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

The Leo Full moon is big and bold and brave.  Where are we all finding our strength?  Where and what do we do out of love?  Care should be taken that actions are not too abrupt. 

Special focus 

Feb 17: Jupiter sextile Uranus.  Joy and abundance, in a practical manner emerge from out of the blue.

Disseminating

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your insights on relationships?  How is your relationship sharing insights on you?  Where do you need to get advice for a relationship? 

Last Quarter Moon Phase

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

How are your goals matching the community you keep?  Do you have a community that is in alignment with your own goals?  What are the goals of the people around you?   What adventures do you need to perhaps find new circles?

Focus on How are you releasing the need to be the big shot?  How are you releasing being the ‘authority’?   How are you releasing big business and big government?

Feb 28: Mars trine North Node.  Pragmatic actions that dig into resources.  Actions that can build from the ground up something concrete and practical.  Access for growth in the future. 

Feb 28: Venus trine North Node.   Leaning into abundance in love and money and other values.  Receiving perks.  

March 2: Mercury conjunct Saturn.  Tough thoughts and communication.  Intense but productive focus.  Nose to the grindstone to get through and to the other side.
