Virgo New Moon 2013

Many years ago I studied lunar phases with Robert Buz Myers.  It is my hope that he would be proud of my work today.  Blessings to you, Buz! 

What is a New Moon?

A new moon is the beginning of a 28-day cycle.  Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a thin section of the moon illuminated.       

And the not so technical point of view?

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the eight phases of the moon for eons, astrologers also utilize the different phases of the Moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

 

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

When we draft a chart for the new moon we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 28 days. 

 

Okay what is this cycle about?  Look backwards, look where you screwed up. Now fix your direction and get it right.   The opportunity is too good to ignore.

Virgo New Moon

 

For those of us in the northern hemisphere we are wrapping up a long hot summer.  For those of us in the southern hemisphere we are wrapping up a long cold winter.   In the north we are ready to take a look at the crops and determine the right time to harvest.   In the south we are ready to look at the hard soil and determine the right time to plant seeds.    If you miss the details you can miss the right moment and “details” is the key word for Virgo.

 

At this point in time I do not need to explain Virgo to you.  You have Virgo friends, you know the drill.   Virgo ties up lose ends, Virgo micro manages the world.   It will tidy up health issues, diet stuff, it will clean out clutter.  Of course the Virgo nerves and insecurities are legendary.  They can rattle.  And when their nerves and brain are in overwhelm they are super critical and everyone runs for the hills to get away from them.    They also have a tendency to be a hypochondriac about their own body or the bodies of loved ones. And Virgo has a hard time believing in God.   But at their core, they do best when they are serving.  It is not that Virgo should be a servant, per se, but they see themselves as serving.  Serving their family, serving a great cause, serving their own creativity, serving their lungs and heart when they exercise.   They frame things as ‘serving’.      And when Virgo absolutely excels is when they are taking care of the details while and this is a big one…while serving a bigger vision.  That is gold. 

 

Having said that, right now, during these 28 days we must go for the gold.      Not bronze, not silver but gold.   So, get your Virgo hat on.  We have work to do.

This Virgo New Moon the Sun and the Moon in Virgo are in trine with Pluto and sextile with Jupiter.    What a gift!   In fact I would argue it is a great, big, golden gift.  But we need to put these 28 days in context of the bigger astrological cycles.    

 

Take a breath—we need to go over stuff. 

 

2014 GRAND CROSS

 

In spring of 2014 we will be experiencing one hell of an astrological time.  In March and April there will be a grand cross between Mars, Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter.

 

Astrologers are not prone to be in fear since we know that mankind survives even the most hideous of aspects.   But having said that, next spring could be rough.  I would be remiss if I did not mention many astrologers see a war.    Others talk about environmental issues.   And of course many talk about more financial cracks to say the least.     And to all of that I say, “Sure, it is all possible.”     But I don’t want to get bogged down in global “what ifs”, especially during the Virgo New Moon.  We need to focus on the details of your life in the midst of these huge astro cycles.    And in order to do that we need to look backwards.  

   

In the late summer of 2008 Pluto turned direct and headed out of Sagittarius, a sign he had been in for over fifteen year.   Within a week of turning direct the stock market crashed and we were launched into The Great Recession and by the way, not one astrologer on planet Earth was surprised.     Pluto is just that important.  

 

How has your life changed since that fall of 2008?  How has it not?     Let’s go through each year and look at what was pushing on all of us and how we handled it.

 

 

2008

August 2008:   Pluto turns Direct

November 2008:  Saturn Oppose Uranus, Pluto enters Capricorn

 

Looking back on that time ask these questions:

How was the cold reality making you work harder than ever?  How did you feel like a victim or martyr?  How did your health feel compromised?  How did you feel like you didn’t have a grip on your numbers? How did you feel like you didn’t have a grip on your schedule?  How did you waste your time? Who were you wasting your time on?   How were your nerves so fray and raw they compelled your choices? 

 

BIG 2008 QUESTION:

If the 2013YOU could go back in time and talk to the 2008YOU what would you tell her/him?   Avoid what?  Do what?  Don’t do what?   How did the 2008YOU listening to his or her gut?  How did the you back then ignore your gut?  At what cost?  Don’t blow off that question.

 

 

2009

November 2009:  Saturn square Pluto.  

 

Looking back on that time ask these questions:

How do your relationships not match your goals?  How does your work or career trap you from healthy relationships?  How are partners not showing up for you?  How are you not showing up for partners?  How come, even in relationships you feel alone?  How are old relationships haunting your choices now?  How are your responsibilities growing because your fear is so loud?    What hole is inside you and how are you filing it?

 

BIG 2009 QUESTION:

If the 2013YOU could go back in time and talk to the 2009YOU what would you tell her/him?   How was the 2009You protecting people?  How did you protect the status quo? Why did you do it?  What was your gut telling you back then and how were you ignoring it?  Who was using smoke and mirrors to dupe you?  How were you duping yourself?

How were you looking the other way when authority figures were abusing power?  How were you looking the other way when opinionated people were going over the top?  How were you being too righteous?  How much time did you waste rooted in fear?

Who was pushing too hard?  Who was being a zealot?

Who was mean?  Who was not listening?   Where were you being deliberately obtuse and not ‘seeing’ something even though it was in plain sight? How were bullies being loud?  How were you smelling a need to jump ship but instead you stayed the course?  Why?

Or were you finally taking a jump?  How would things improve if you just cut the bullshit and went out on your own?  How are partners disappointing you?  Both personal and in business?

If the 2013YOU could go back and talk to the 2010YOU what would you tell you about partners or partnerships?   How were you missing something in plain sight?

Where was the 2010YOU being distracted when something very vital needed your full attention?   What issue would the 2013YOU tell the 2010You to run for the hills and cut your losses?  How were you being superficial?  Who really needed help but you didn’t do it?   Where did you not stand up for yourself?   Yes, when god gives you lemons make lemonade but god also created the AntiLemon laws.  What lemon were you holding on to when you should have just ditched it?  Where they people, attitudes, beliefs, styles?

Aries New Moon was in conjunction with Mars.  If you were paying attention you felt the fire kick in.  Some of you acknowledge the energy that was building in you and you were laser focused about your Treasure Map.   You put things on your map you never considered before because you felt it inside of you.   What was that fire inside your belly? Think back on that time, what started to smolder?   What tension surrounded you?    How were you making changes?   Were these real changes?   Not just physical changes but internal changes.

Near the end of April a somewhat nasty full moon got everyone’s attention, in particular those people who were in denial that there was something smoldering inside.   What were your values and how was your life reflecting your true core values?   Were you ready to make changes that matched your core values?  And how was the thing that was smoldering in you?  Were the flames catching, growing?  It was impossible to deny, so what were you telling yourself in order to deny the smoldering feeling?

How fast was your world moving?  Did a swashbuckler move in, with a sword in hand and kicked up the fire in you?  What did you do?  Did you feel it?  How did you answer that feeling?  If you were smart you were going with the energy.  You were letting it take you to a new place.  If you weren’t and were denying the energy then how were you numbing yourself?  Booze, drugs, religion, tears, what were you doing and how was it numbing you?   Look backwards and assess how were you wasting your time? Or how were you galvanizing your energy and putting it to the ‘new’ you?

Questions:

Good lord, here comes the Huns.

How has your life changed since April?  Metaphorically have you moved miles?  Or are you holding on tight with white knuckles?  Really, is that even working?  What a laugh. If you were smart and following your gut you should be out on a limb.  Vulnerable but at the same time connected to an inner voice that says, “Yep”.    This is not about doing a ‘geographic’ where you physically move but are still up to the same old habits and behaviors.  How have you changed?  And have you gone far enough?  

 

SEPTEMBER

 

And now we are here.    This is the first time I have ever written a new moon article in this manner.  And by the way, I am a SAG so going back and finding all those details and those aspects was not easy.   But don’t confuse me with a martyr, ha! That was my other lifetimes, not this one.  I took the time to lay out these outer planet aspects and tensions because we are NOT done.  The patterns are continuing now in 2013 through 2015 with 2014 being extra pointed.  What we are dealing with right now connects back to all the previous energy.  Remember the cycle got started in 2010.   But to get to 2010 we had to have the energy of 2008/2009.  This is why I want you to see your life and the bigger patterns.  

 

Why am I riding your ass?

 

Because I want you to make the most of the tension.   I want you to get where you need to go.  I want you to look at your life and assess what is working and not working.   God knows Virgo can spot a problem better than any other sign.  So, look around you.   Look at your past.   Spend these 28 days looking backwards, see the patterns and begin a strategy and a plan on the next chapter. What is authentic inside you that needs to be recognized?   And this thing inside you started to churn and take root back in 2010.  That may be when you started to realize something about life was off.  Way off.   Did you make the moves in 2011, 2012?   Did you do it this year?   What is it going to take to get you to do it this year?   Did you have a dream or a vision?  Are you any closer to it now?  Why or why not?

 

We are so NOT done with our tension.     Looking ahead and of course I will be mentioning these and other aspects in the coming new moons but just to get a lay of the land, here is what is coming up:

April 19-23 Mars activates cardinal cross with Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter. 

 

PLUTO

In terms of this month on September 20, Pluto will turn direct having been retrograde since April.  This is all part of the bigger picture we have already discussed.  Pluto is churning up the status quo.  He is not content with business as usual.  He digs deep finds the flaw and then exposes it.   Pluto spends half of every year in retrograde motion.  Like a miner with a helmet and ax he goes back over the old tunnels to see if something valuable has been over looked.   In particular our power.    What is the death that needs to occur and where do we need the rebirth?

What is outdated?  What is obsolete?  Why are we hanging on to it?   Seriously, what needs to be released and eliminated?   Attitudes, fears, beliefs, style, approaches, our relationships with people?

 

 

Finally,

 

We have 28 days to fix a whole lot of stuff.  Actually, we don’t have to have it all fixed, but we should begin the work that can sustain us as we make the bigger changes.   Count the pennies and the dollars count themselves…that kind of thinking.   After looking at your life for the last five years, how are you setting your compass?  Where are you heading?   Get Virgo to help you with the details.   You deserve this new journey.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.  

 

Focus:  You have looked backwards. You see where you screwed up. And more to the point you have goals for your future.   Start fixing things so you can get to those goals.  And for godsake...stop being small.

 

 

Special Focus:  

9/7: Sun/Jupiter:  Bright opportunities.  Fun breakthroughs.   Creativity abounds.

 

 

 

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

 

Focus on:

As we focus on what works and what does not work we get information that speaks about the places where we co-mingle.   Loans, taxes, investments.   Sex.  Along with Jealousy. Betrayal.  Death and rebirth.   How do all these issues need to be tidied up?    

 

Special Focus:

 

9/9: Mercury enters Libra

9/9: Mars/Saturn:  We feel we are between a rock and a hard place and looking for dynamite.   Tense and frustrating.

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

 

 

 

Focus on:

 

What actions can we take that expand our knowledge?  What actions can we take that push us to cross bridges?  How do people, places, things that are “foreign” help us tidy up?

9/13: Venus/Neptune:  Dreams and love meet up.  Intuition is high. Creativity too.

9/14: Mercury/Pluto: Death and mental rebirth.

9/14: Mars/Uranus.  Brilliant actions.  Breakthroughs and new actions.

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions. 

 

 

Focus on:

 The focus in on our friends and our flock.  How can you fly higher if your flock is low? How have you neglected that feeling of being with like minding people who are inspired on the same way as you are inspired?   

 

Special Focus:

 

9/16: Sun/Saturn: Responsibilities are great. Burdens are heavy but results can be worth it.

9/16:  Mercury/Uranus.  Over compromising can cost.  Over rebelliousness can also cross.  Where is the place in between? 

9/17: Mercury/Mars: Sparks, energetic thoughts and actions that stir things up in a welcomed way. 

9/18: Venus/Saturn:  Values, Money, Love feel chilly.  Delays but not denial.

9/18: Venus/Pluto: Love of Power.  Powerful love.

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you? 

 

 

Focus on:  

How do we need to tidy up our spirituality?  How do we tidy up our religion?  How do we tidy up our place in the big universe?  Are we just this little dot that is bounced around by wind?  No connection to anything bigger?  Or are we connected to a grand plan?

Disseminating Moon Phase

 

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information. 

 

 

Focus on:  What are you sharing with others that speaks to work?  When you look around your life what results do you see happened by putting one foot in front of the other and just simply doing the work?  How can you share that knowledge with others? 

 

 

Special focus:

9/26: Venus/Jupiter: Abundance of love and money.  Joy, fun, party, play.

 

 

Last Quarter Moon Phase

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living  “The serenity prayer”

How does your family need tidying?  How do your emotions need tidying up?  How do your roots need tidying?

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new. 

 

Focus on   We release our need to be big shot.  We release our big ego.

We release the part of us that needs to be special.

10/1 Mercury/Neptune:  Dreamy thoughts and visions.  Talking about things that spiritual.   Feeling closer to spirit. 

10/1: Sun/Pluto:  Over compensating to keep power at bay.  Is it working? 

10/3: Sun/Uranus: Abruptness, being “not nice”,  Rebel versus being “too nice”
