Pisces New Moon 2023: Beep!

Pisces New Moon– 2023

By Tracy Cook

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.

Okay what is this cycle about?   Beep.  That is your inner radar talking to you.   Can you hear it?   Oh, yes you can.   Just get quiet.

Pisces New Moon

1 Pisces 22

Feb 19, 2023

11:05pm PST

Welcome to Pisces lunar month.   We are at the end of the astrological journey.    Pisces is the final sign and given it is the final water, like all good movies, we end with a big splash.    Our emotions are not as loud as Cancer or as forceful as Scorpio (the other two water signs), but Pisces emotions are profound even if they are muted.   Pisces is two fish, swimming in different directions but still connected to each other.   Pisces can be awash in feelings but may not know where the feelings are coming from.  It ponders every question with more question.   Unclear at times how to move.    Pisces rules the oceans and speaks to the vastness of space; both landscapes dark and cold, but like whales and dolphins who use echolocate, a type of animal sonar to navigate the depths or like the mysterious beeps that pulse from stars through the solar systems, Pisces when quiet can pick up on important and faraway messages.

For twenty-nine days we may feel a little unmoored.   Our thinking could be fuzzy, and our calendar seems hard to lock.  Our other senses, the ones that are hard to define, get our attention.   We could have a thought about someone and then hear from them.   Or we will flash on something and then it pops up in our world.  Take note of coincidences.  Synchronistic moments could be plentiful.   Pisces reminds us, now at the end of the zodiac, that we may not oversee anything more important than the ability to tune in of our own radar.

While Pisces can get lost in his world, this Pisces New Moon chart is grounded by Saturn.    Saturn at 28 degrees of Aquarius is hovering over The Sun and Moon at 1 degree Pisces.  Like a dad with Friend Finder on his phone, he knows exactly what his children are doing.

These twenty-nine days may have lots of dreams and visions and fantasy but there will be reality checks along the way.    Nothing like that dad with friend finder who texts, “When you are done doing whatever you are doing, please swing by the market and pick up some milk.”    Concrete actions will be called upon even in the fuzziest of circumstances.

An hour after the new moon launches, Venus, the planet of love and values enters fiery Aries.   The switch for “Me, what do I want?” is turned WAY up.   At the same time, Jupiter the traditional ruler of Pisces is in exuberant Aries. These are nice counters to Pisces who can sometimes swim around in mystery or confusion so much that it gets caught in a depression net.  Venus in Aries is not confused on anything.   It knows what it wants.  Jupiter in Aries is not subtle and that fire in the soul to ‘be here now’ also pushes back against Pisces ennui or cynicism.

Saturn enters Pisces.

March 7, 2023 – May 24, 2025

Sep 1 2025 – Feb 13, 2026

Previous Saturn in Pisces

May – June 1993

Jan 1994 – April 1996

Saturn ingress into Pisces on March 7 is one of the major astrological components for 2023.  Saturn has spent the last six years in signs it rules. First it entered Capricorn in 2017 and then Aquarius in 2020 which it co-rules.    Saturn has comfort in Capricorn and Aquarius, it brings authority to signs that listen or respect him.   But in Pisces who is ruled by Jupiter and Neptune, Saturn’s authority has less to glob on to. Pisces is mutable, hard to wrestle, and Saturn’s trek has mixed results.   In the late 19th century, Saturn was in Pisces for the Great Compromise of 1877.   The Presidential election in November of 1876 resulted in a tie; a compromise was drawn which gave Rutherford Hayes the presidency (GOP) but the southern senators would only agree IF the federal troops were pulled out of the south who had been overseeing the area since the end of the Civil War.   Pulling out the federal troops forcibly ended The Reconstruction Era, an era highlighted by freed black men able to vote and be elected to office.   This compromise killed Reconstruction and launched the horrific Jim Crow Era which lasted until the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which, drum roll, also occurred during Saturn in Pisces.

In the Saturn in Pisces era earlier in the 19th century, we see the California land rush launched after gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill in 1848.  Many a prospector arrived in CA, set up a claim and ended up with nothing, of course others went on to set up prosperous businesses and build California.   The 1846-1848 cycle is closer to our period now in 2023 because that round had Neptune and Saturn in Pisces at the same time as we will be experiencing this round.    Curiously, both Sutter’s Mill and the 1877 compromise took place at ten degrees of Pisces.   During the March to Selma in March of 1965 Saturn was also at ten degrees of Pisces.   Will this round of Saturn in Pisces have call backs to these previous eras?

Pisces rules art and creative movements strengthened during Saturn in Pisces.   Look no further than the Impressionist movement in Paris in the 1870s, the film industry in the 1930s and WWW in the 1990s.  None of those movements started with Saturn in Pisces but they took shape and grew during the transit.  Saturn is the planet of building and strengthening foundations.

Saturn in Pisces by itself is not earth shattering but when you add Pluto ingress into Aquarius at the end of March and in May, Jupiter’s move into Taurus there are lot of changes in 2023.    Also, during the entire transit, Saturn will be chasing Neptune until finally the two form a conjunction in Feb 2026 at Zero Aries.   This is a big deal in window of big deal aspects and transits.   Watch that space.

Clearly, this Saturn in Pisces cycle can be a Boom or Bust depending on who you are, where you are and your circumstances in general.   For some players like, John Sutter, Rutherford Hayes, Edouard Manet and John Lewis they were tapping their own karma and dharma.   Obviously, our own responses or roles  through Saturn will be found for the next two and half years.  But it all starts with tapping our inner radar.  Beep Beep Beep

The Speed of Things

When Mars went into shadow on September 3, we slowed down to molasses speed.   For the last six months, between the Mars retrograde, Mercury retrogrades, Saturn & Uranus revisit to the square zone, and the climb out by all of them, it has felt nearly impossible to get things done.  Now with Mars finally exiting the shadow on March 15, things are starting to pick up.   Things that have felt stalled out or just ‘this far’ from completion get finalized.  In addition, since January 22 all the planets have been moving direct and will continue so until April 21.  Things will be moving fast.  Button up.

One note on Mars.  On March 14, Mars will square Neptune for the third time (Oct 11 and November 19).  Look back on those other dates and see how your actions were either on point or just missed.    Mars in Gemini gathers so much information and moves so quick, but Neptune in Pisces is the great tripper.   Neptune will always say slow down.   Breathe your way through the Mars Neptune tussle.

Finally try faith and humanity

During this twenty-nine-day cycle, some of us will feel restless and disconnected.  The challenge to get up each day could feel herculean. While it is not as heavy of a period as other Pisces lunar months, thank you, Venus in Aries and Jupiter in Aries.    We still might feel a struggle.   This is where the greatest gift of Pisces may be tapped.   The ability to find humanity.   Looking at another person and thinking, ‘that could be me’.   Tap empathy.  What can you do to help someone else?  How can you put on your kind lenses?   Can you set aside your harsh self?   And how can you find your faith?   Is there something bigger than you that you can draw knowledge?   If it is difficult then maybe just get quiet and find your inner radar.  Faith is not a belief, it is a verb.

Have a wonderful month and we’ll reconvene for the first Aries New Moon when you get to put self-first!    In the meantime clean and declutter your home and work so you will be ready for your new Treasure Map!

The 8 phases

Pisces New Moon

1 Pisces 22

Feb 19, 2023

11:05pm PST

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     Our radar is deep inside us.   It can guide us on every action.   We can find our zen by getting quiet and finding that inner voice.    During this 29-day cycle, we find our inner beeps.

Special note:

2/19 Venus enters Aries.  Boldness in values.  Putting it out there whatever it is.  Key it is something important.  Love and Money can feel optimistic.   Like spring.

2/21 Mercury square Uranus.   Obstinate thinking.  Obsolete thinking.  Conversations that are problematic.   Breathe your way through.

2/22 Mercury trine mars.   Fun actions.  New thinking that inspires big actions.  New landscapes.

Crescent Moon Phase

Feb 23, 2023

6:27 am PST

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your independence?  What are you learning about your self-determination?  How can you bring more creativity?   What are you learning about your goals and how are they framed through humanitarian lens?

Special Focus

First Quarter Moon

Feb 27, 2023

12:05am PST

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that improve your communication?  What actions are you taking improve your thinking?   How are these improvements tapping creativity?   How do these improvements tap faith and humanitarian impulses?    What actions are you taking reflect your ability to pivot?

Special Note

3/1: Venus conjunction Jupiter.   Big values.  Big money.  Big love.  Big big. Optimistic but take care not too over spend or over eat or over big.

3/2: Mercury conjunction Saturn.  Thoughts about groups of people.  They either strengthen the group or jettison the group.  Saturn is in his final days of Aquarius, there may be one more thing to think about before he moves on.  See what comes up around this date.

3/2: Mercury enters Pisces

Gibbous Moon

March 3, 2023

7:07am PST

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on:  How are you refining you refining your interactions with family?  How are you bringing humanitarian lenses to family?

Special focus

3/3 Venus conjunction Chiron.   How do we find our independence?  How is there something keeping us broken from independence?  How can we be our own hero/ine?

3/6: Sun sextile Uranus.  Creative solutions.  Answers hiding in plain sight can be seen.   Intuition is high.   Something interesting from out of the blue.

March 7, 2023

Full Moon

16 Virgo 40

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on   What does your calendar say about your life?   Is your reality matching your values?    What is your daily physical regiment?   What is your health management?   What creativity are you bringing to your calendar?  How are you bringing humanitarian concerns or faith daily to your life?

Special focus

3/7 Saturn enters Pisces 5:34am PST (see above)

Disseminating

March 11, 2023

2:32 am PST

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Focus on:   What knowledge about sex, death, transformation, are you sharing or seeking advice?    How are you letting go?  How are you shedding or getting advice on shedding?   How are you sharing with those who need help on those matters?   What needs to be shed to bring more creativity in your daily life?

Special focus:

3/11:  Venus’s sextile Mars.  Money and Love get a fun boost of energy.

3/11: Mercury sextile Uranus.   Creative thoughts.   Breakthroughs in thinking.    Thoughts build new structures.

3/11:  Jupiter conjunction Chiron.    Independence is highlighted.  Either a rush to get it or a rush to share it.   Take care to not throw the baby out with the bathwater in new found energy for number 1.

3/12:  Daylight Savings time launches 2am – spring forward one hour

Last Quarter Moon Phase

March 14, 2023

7:08pm

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:

How are you taking actions that broaden your world?  How would you benefit by reaching out to people you maybe normally don’t engage?  What knowledge can you get when you expand your world and how will support your humanitarian nature?

Special focus

3/14:  Mars square Neptune  (see above)

3/15:  Sun conjunction Neptune.  Fuzzy.  Unclear.  Tap inner mystic to cut through any confusion.

3/16:  Mercury conjunction Neptune.  Meditation will help clear any fuzzy conversation.   Intuition can be tapped.   But not paranoia please.

3/16: Sun Square Mars. Actions feel ‘off’.  Motives feel weird.  Trying to get an even footing is a struggle.  Move slowly is a way to get through it.

3/16: Venus square Pluto.  Love of power or power of love?  What is it?

3/16: Venus enters Taurus.

3/16: Mercury square Mars.  Sharp tongues.  Razor thinking could motivate actions that are cutting.

3/17: mercury conjunct Sun.  Gentle thoughts, mystical connections.  Finding spirit.

Balsamic Moon Phase

March 18, 2023

3:58am

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.

Focus on:  How are you releasing group thought?  How are you releasing your connections to dysfunctional people in your circle?  How are you releasing a stubborn hold on theories that may no longer make sense?   By releasing how are you more humanitarian?

Special focus:

3/18: Mercury sextile Pluto.  Thinking that finds deep solutions.

3/18: Mercury enters Aries

3/20: Sun enters Aries
