Taurus New Moon 2010-----And so we begin.......

TAURUS NEW MOON 2010 –

By Tracy Cook

Many years ago I studied lunar phases with Robert Buz Myers.  It is my hope that he would be proud of my work today.  Blessings to you, Buz!

What is a New Moon?

A new moon is when the moon is between the sun and the earth and the illuminated part of the moon is very small.  Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a small, skinny section of moon.

And the not so technical point of view?

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the different phases of the moon for eons, Astrologers also utilize the different phases of the Moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

When we draft a chart for the new moon we can get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 28 days.

Okay what is this cycle about?

The doors are open.  The winds of change are swirling around us.  The genie is out of the bottle but then we knew this was coming.   Thank goodness we can be practical about it.

Sabian Symbol:  A mountain Indian with scalp locks

The key word is COMMAND.   When positive, the degree is an unimpeachable control over life through a discipline of the self and its powers and when negative a ruthless or complete inhumanity in dealing with others.

MAP OF YOUR HEART

Before we get to Taurus New Moon let’s take a moment and nod our hats to last month’s Aries Treasure Map Moon.  Did you make your map?  Do you feel good about the stuff you want for your future?  When you take a deep breath and look at your map, do you feel from the bottom of your toes to the top of your head that you deserve the stuff you want?   I will assume the answer is “yes.”  Good.

Now, having said all that, when you think about that week when you made your map, doesn’t it feel like it was two years ago?  Yeah, me too.  We all feel it, we all talk about it.  How many of us have had this sense of “Time speeding up”?  It has certainly been for awhile but definitely in 2010 someone put on the booster rockets because every day the sun comes up, we brush teeth, go out the door and then what seems about ten minutes later, we’re back in our house preparing for bed.      Could it be any faster in 2010?

And so in that ‘hurry up’ environment we are hitting one of the slowest signs in the zodiac – Taurus the bull.   What does it mean when that fast energy hits a brick ‘Bull’ wall?  I dunno but what I do know is we probably need it.   Let’s start now by  getting our heads around Taurus.

EARTH IS CALLING

Taurus is an earth sign, and therefore puts a high premium on things that are useful and practical.  It is not airy fairy nor is it fiery or watery by nature.  It likes things that it can feel and touch.  It likes things in its hands not in its head.   Planting a vegetable garden is perfectly Taurus.    Dirt, seed, water and a few months later a bounty of food---that kind of image makes Taurus sing.   (Taurus rules the throat by the way).

Taurus has tenacity, it rallies with the yoke of responsibility, is not shy of hard work and discipline.  It loves a good job that it can go to every day and slowly, Taurus will work its way to a good position in the company.  It does not need to have a meteoric rise; it will just do it bit by bit ---with pleasure.

Taurus is the sign of values and resources.  Your local bank, your currency, your real estate---this is Taurus stuff.   Like I said, Taurus is earthy.   Taurus is also the sign associated with love.  Of course, every sign has love in it but for Taurus love is a tangible valuable asset.   You can’t love a Taurus in ‘theory’ they need to see it in hugely practical ways.   And when they don’t they will accuse you their lover, friend or family member nothing short of treason.

And what about the other stuff?  Well, when Taurus is in fear and when they don’t see things going the way they think it ‘should’ they are possessive, inflexible, stubborn to a fault, completely resistant to change and blinded by the red in their eyes.   They have been known to fight battles long after wars are over.    They will stay in their spot and not move an inch ----to their detriment.    And for a sign that is known for great tenacity and hard work they also can be hideously lazy.    If there is some huge area in their life that needs a big overhaul they can be extremely lazy about doing the things to fix it.   But in truth, they are lazy because they fear the change.  Even things that they admit are lame, bad or problematic it is better in their minds than the fear of what a change may bring.    To them, “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.”     Perhaps that is true and perhaps it is not.  But the rub is that Taurus won’t know because they won’t move or shift when they are scared they stay stuck.  At least a fearful Taurus.  If you find ourself feeling stuck like a Taurus, remember to call on the other practical side of Taurus and take things bit by bit.  See how you can slowly take care of things.

Nice Support

Now what is the energy of this Taurus Lunar cycle?   Well, the Taurus Sun/ Moon are in a very nice aspect with Saturn in Virgo.   As we discussed last moon, retrograde Saturn has moved back into Virgo for us to get practical about our daily lives including jobs (not career), health and hygiene, diet, exercise and basically our calendars and schedule.   With a boost from the Taurus Sun and Moon we will feel guided to cut the bullshit (no pun intended) out of our schedule.  Remember, Taurus is practical and if there is stuff in our daily schedule that is based on frivolous, extraneous emotions or murky things like fear and guilt, this could be the month we cut it out.  Because really at its core, Taurus is where we take stock at what we value and how to give it priority in our daily lives.  This is the perk to Saturn trine Sun/Moon.

At the same time…..

Also this cycle the Sun & Moon are in a harsh aspect between Mars in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius.    With Mars, it is called a separating aspect meaning it is on the decaying side of tension but still there is pressure.   Look out for runaway egos, bullies and braggarts.     Conflicts between those who are “just trying to get stuff done” with those who are “trying to hold to want they have.”

Adding to this energy is Neptune casting a cloud of fear, defeatism and ennui. In terms of planets Neptune is associated with oil and gas.  In terms of signs Pisces is associated with oil and gas.  Last month Uranus in Pisces went through its final opposition to Saturn in Virgo and we had the oil spill.  Now, it is the planet Neptune who will continue to carry the torch for oil and gas issues.  It is hard to imagine under this square that the disaster in the gulf will be solved during this cycle.  Perhaps, we will take pause again and wonder what we drive and where we go each day and how much gas we use?

Then of course, there is the fact that we all went to bed one day and woke up the next in a Michael Bay film.  Between Haiti, Santiago, tons of other earthquakes (including my own backyard) and an Icelandic Volcano that shut down Western Europe we are getting pretty used to natural disasters in 2010.   So, why would May & June be any different?   Especially with the Sun/Moon in earthy Taurus in conflict with Neptune in an airy Aquarius.   It makes me wonder about more gases coming out of volcanoes.   And given Mars is already in harsh aspect, let’s make that explosive gasses --both naturally made and manmade.

On the internal level, the square with Neptune is pushing us into what we believe about groups and humanitarian causes versus private holdings and properties.  We will all feel the push and pull between “us” versus “me”  And if you are stubbornly holding a perception that you are only one and not the other----well, watch out because this cycle you feel pulled into both camps.

 And then there is Jupiter

Jupiter is big.  No scratch that—it is Mega-big and when it does anything it does it megaloud and in this Taurus Lunar cycle we are launching a very active period of Jupiter Aspects.   Between now and September 2011, Jupiter will conjunct Uranus three times, oppose Saturn three times and Square Pluto three times.  And all these aspects will begin this lunar cycle.  It starts on May 23 when Jupiter opposes Saturn for round one.  The tension will be high as Jupiter likes to expand, he likes to get out there and mess with the world, he likes to put a lamp shade on his head and say, “let’s part-ee”.   Saturn is stingy and strict and thinks a party is preparing taxes for an audit.    And since the opposition is taking place at 28 degrees of Pisces/Virgo we will feel Jupiter expand our dreams and spirituality while Saturn is restricting our daily life, healthcare, hygiene and work.   Virgo does not believe in anything that it can’t see, touch, hear, feel or taste.   While Pisces knows that just because we can’t see it or touch it, does not mean it does not exist.   This cycle you will feel yourself bouncing between both extremes, “I feel something unworldly that I can’t explain” versus, “I have got to take care of business or I will be lost.”   Watch how vagueness gets you in trouble but at the same time dotting I’s and crossing t’s limits you.  It is a strange dance… one, two,  cha, cha, cha, three, four, cha, cha, cha.

Then two weeks later on June 6, Jupiter moves out of Pisces and into Aries where it will stay until September (before it retrogrades back to Pisces).   The last time Jupiter was in Aries was between 1999 and 2000 and before that was 1987 & 1988 so you may have a call back to those periods.   Energetically, you were probably breaking ground.   In what areas of your life were you fiery?  How were you a warrior?  How were you a survivalist?  If we look back on the last Jupiter in Aries period, we recall Elian Gonzales was plucked out the Atlantic ocean, a small boy, the lone survivor of a difficult trip—perfectly Aries.   NATO waged war on Yugoslavia which was the first time they attacked a sovereign country and curiously, it was also the first time the Dow Jones crossed 10,000.  That is a lot of Arian energy but perhaps one of the saddest chapters in US History also took place--- Columbine.   (No surprise since weapons are in the Aries tool box.)  We will all need to guard against misguided anger and realize that our patience will be short for the next year.   For a business take on Jupiter in Aries take a look at this link:

http://www.astrologicalinvesting.com/html/articles_pages/articles-Jupiter_in_Aries.html

Now if any of you think Jupiter’s move into Aries will be subtle and it will take all year for it to show itself, well you would be WRONG.    We will see what this next year is all about within a few days of Jupiter in Aries because two days later on June 8th Jupiter will be on top of Uranus in Aries.   This can only be described as, “Mr. Fire, Meet Mr. Gasoline.”  Additionally, the minute Jupiter goes into Aries it will begin its dog fight with Pluto in Capricorn.  The first hit is not until late July but the fight will start much earlier with some nasty growls, we should expect something to get our attention, personally and globally.    I think it is interesting that these two fiery energies which demand speed and show little patience are occurring during the Taurus lunar cycle which is always saying, “sloooooowwww down”.  The rub of course is that they can’t slow down.

Three little words…..

“Uranus enters Aries”---not since “The British are coming” has one sentence had so much punch on our world.   As I indicated on previous moons, the last time Uranus was in Aries was between 1927 and 1935, a great time to be a fascist and a great time if you like sound in motion pictures.  Highly innovative to be sure, television (believe it or not) and radio have their roots while Uranus was last in Aries.   And even government agencies tried to come up with creative overhauls (big Uranus word) to alleviate those suffering in The Great Depression.  Unfortunately, some leaders had solutions that were at the expense of innocent people and as we all know this period also set up World War II.  With Uranus in Aries it is; innovative versus rebellion, crisis versus breakthroughs, challenging versus argumentative ---whatever happens this summer will be directly connected to Uranus in Aries.   Much has been written about this move by Uranus and we will be feeling its punch for some time, but it is not like we won’t see the problem ASAP.  Because like Jupiter as soon as Uranus arrives in Aries it begins its own conflict with Pluto.  I know sane physicians no longer do this but remember the old days when a baby was born and he was immediately slapped?  Well, that’s what is going to happen with Uranus.  He hits Zero Aries and he is immediately in the zone for a slap with Pluto.  Technically the slap doesn’t come until 2011 but we will feel the tension as soon as he moves into Aries.  Also, I don’t think it is an accident that this huge move by Uranus takes place under the Full Moon.   Because why on earth should we get a break now?  Following Uranus’ birth in Aries, Jupiter will then get on top of him on June 8th.   I say this with tongue in cheek but must we have both of these huge crazy planets in the same sign on top of each other preparing to do battle with Pluto!!!!!   The answer is “of course” because that is what this year is all about.  Dynamic, huge, mega shifts.   And now would be a good time to remember that the Computers, new technology and cyberspace are associated with Uranus.   As of this writing, we do not know what caused the flash drop last week on the stock market when it fell 1000 points in fifteen minutes.   I suspect computer glitches but I have to say if that had  happened while Uranus was in Aries and with Jupiter on it in Aries I am not so sure it would have recovered as easily.   Anyway, luckily the next two times Jupiter and Uranus get on top of each other will be in the fall and January 2011 and by then they will have had the decency to have moved back into Pisces.  Phew!

God knows we can’t forget Saturn

Okay, right around now on any normal lunar cycle I would be wrapping up and sending you on your way.   But of course this isn’t a normal cycle and this is not a normal year.   We have been discussing the Cardinal Cross/Climax for some time and one of the other key players to the whole magillah is Saturn.    On May 30 Saturn turns direct  beginning its final trip out of detailed oriented, micromanaging Virgo and heading  for relationship centric Libra.   This on its own would be a message for everyone to straighten up and fly right.  As I have said ad naseum if your daily schedule and life does not match what you value then you will have a shit storm with your relationships when Saturn moves into Libra in July.    And remember once Saturn is in Libra it will be heading for the cardinal cross  with Pluto, Uranus & Jupiter –this is the stuff that has got all astrologers saying, “buckle up.”   And we should expect turbulence as soon as Saturn turns direct because even though it is still in Virgo the direct motion will set the tension ‘on’.   Also, remember Saturn and Jupiter got our attention on May 22 when they were in opposition.  The next time these two go at it will be in the signs Libra and Aries in August and March.   So, we are put on notice that if anything upsetting, unnerving comes up now that rattles us about our relationships, if we don’t fix it now (while it is direct in Virgo) I promise you it will get fixed by the Universe in August.  And if you don’t know--- when the Universe does it, it carries a very big stick.   By the way, this is not just personal.  Expect world news events to come out that really need to be fixed.  Food and health issues could be pronounced around May 22 ,  May 30th  and actually the whole period.

And then of course there is Neptune

As I say every year, it is not unusual for Neptune to turn retrograde since it is goes backwards every year for about six months.   In this case Neptune will retrograde on May 29th.  Lucky him.  He is moving backwards in Aquarius pulling away from the world, as we begin our descent into the cardinal cross.  And I gotta say, I don’t blame him.  We are about to be pelted so hard I am grateful he is pulling away.  My guess is by the time he turns direct in November we will need his comfort.  Remember Aquarius is one of the humanitarian signs, meaning “for the good of the group” .  When Neptune is retrograde our intuition is quieter, and more subtle.  We have to tune in a little harder but it is still there ready for our willingness to ask, “Who is my tribe?  What do I need from them? And how do I help?”

And then there is Chiron and there is Mars

On the Aries New Moon article I mentioned that Chiron moved into Pisces mid April and the last time we experienced that it was between 1960 and 1969.   I was only a kid during that period but let me tell you even as I kid I knew it was rocky.  I remember sitting in front of the tv watching JFK funeral and even as a child I knew something big had happened.  Plus my babysitter would not stop crying.  A few years later I was older and I think my teacher or someone had talked about the democratic convention being on tv so I stayed up to watch it.  Not that I had any party affiliation at that young age but more to the point was that the convention was in my city so it was newsy.  I had it on and then the next thing I knew it was chaos.  RFK was shot.  I also remember MLK and the Watts Riots vividly.  I remember Ceasar Chavez protesting and workers in front of my market with boycott lettuce signs.    And now here I am with a small son and we are now revisiting Chiron in Pisces.    On May 21 we will get our first square by the Sun to Chiron.    I’m not sure how the tension will play out but I do believe there will be a lot of rhetoric since Gemini is in the mix.

Mars, our favorite warrior will be moving out of hot and bothered Leo and into detail ruling Virgo on June 7th.  If we thought we were already OCD with Saturn in Virgo, once Mars gets there expect a lot of us to run around like field mice when the thrasher comes through.   We will all be hideously super busy, trying to take care of stuff like there was no tomorrow.  You know that pressure you feel when you are trying to get to the airport with multiple luggage bags, taxi cabs and cash in hand…that panic feeling?  Well, expect it daily while Mars is in Virgo.  The good news is that it is only in Virgo until the end of July.

 In closing:

First of all there is a lot of information going on this 28 day cycle and I know it can be overwhelming.  Just to reiterate here is your score card of your important dates.

Sun Square Chiron: May 21

Jupiter oppose Saturn May 23—1:36am

Uranus enters Aries May 27—9:44pm (on full moon)

Saturn turns direct May 30 – 2:09pm

Neptune retrograde May 31: 2:48pm

Jupiter enters Aries June 6 2:28am

Mars enters Virgo June 7—2:11am

Jupiter conjunct Uranus June 8 7:27am

I wish I had a crystal ball and I could tell you exactly what is going to occur between now and the end of the summer.  Alas, I do not.  But here is what I am doing.  During this Taurus cycle I am really committing to what I value.  If it does not mean that much to me, then I’m not going to spend time on it, money on it or worry about it.   Does this mean I am only concerned with my own family and friends?  No.  Not at all.   I will continue to see myself as a part of community which I will always cherish and value.  But I also know that I may need to pull away from some of the work of community so that others can step up.   You see there will be a lot of leaders who will show up in the next few months.  In small groups and in large arenas.  People who have been hiding in the shadows but who knew in their hearts and minds that she should do more for the group.    Enjoy the practical nature of this Taurus cycle.  It will be of great support as we ride the current energies.

New Moon Phase

May 13, 2010

9:04 PM

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.

Focus on:  How am practical?  And how can I be more practical?  Where am I lazy, why do I not want to change the problem areas of my life?  Does my life match what I value?  What seeds can I plant right now that tell the universe, "I live a life that is valuable?"  Am I moving so fast that I have forgotten what I need?   When I put my feet on the ground and move my toes--do I feel grounded?  Do it every day for the next 28  days.

Special focus:

5/17: Venus/Jupiter: Excessive spending, too much of good thing

Crescent Moon Phase

May  17

9:37 am

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on:

Family, home, emotions and primitive survival needs.  What are you learning about your family?  What are  you  learning about your home life? What is your family telling you?  What do you need to survive?  When is the last time you asked yourself what you NEED?   What is coming up that makes you feel safe or not safe?

Special Focus:

5/18: Venus/Saturn:  Constraints in love, tight emotions, cold, chilly

5/18: Venus/Neptune:  love of spirit, evolved, mysticism, mystery of love

5/19: Venus enters Cancer http://astrology.about.com/od/venus/p/VenusCancer.htm

5/19: Mercury/Pluto:  Intense thoughts, mental concentration sharp

5/19:Venus/Uranus: Chaotic love,  money and values get wild twisted

First Quarter Moon

May 20

7:42pm

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:

How do the seeds you plant on new moon match your integrity?  What actions can you take now that call upon  your strength?  How do the seeds you plant match your authentic self?   Do the seeds you planted bring you a source of pride?

Special focus

5/20: Sun/Uranus:  Lively, fun, creative energetic play that inspires

5/20: Sun enters Gemini. Buy a cup of coffee and do light gossip the entire time. The perfect Gemini birthday!

5/23: Jupiter/Saturn: (see above)

5/23: Venus/Pluto:  Love life tension. Resources need to be corralled. Big Pressure.

Gibbous Moon

May 24

5:48 am EDT

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, we organize  to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on:

What seeds did you plant on new or what came up for you on the new moon and how does it impact your relationship?   What shifts do you have to make now that support your relationships better?  Or what refinements in your relationship do you have to make to support your goals?

Special Focus:

5/26: Sun/Pluto:  Ego and power do NOT go hand in hand.   In fact, low self esteem equals High ego.  You’ll see that this week.

Full Moon Phase

May 27

7:07pm

6 Sag 33

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on:

How can you make a shift that brings in ‘foreign’ thinking?  How would it help you to stretch your world?  Where does your world feel small?  How educated are you?  Do you need to go out and learn more?   It does not need to be a college btw.  Where can you expand yourself in general?  Where are prejudices influencing you.   http://tracyastrosalon.blogspot.com/

Special Focus:

5/27: Uranus enters Aries- Get out your flameproof suit. It will be a long 7 years. (read above)

5/30: Saturn direct (see above)

5/31: Neptune retrograde (see above)

Disseminating Moon Phase

May 31

3:41 pm

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Last Quarter Moon Phase

June 4

6:13PM

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living  “The serenity prayer

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:

How would the compassionate part of your nature support the actions from new moon?  What actions can you take which are based on mysticism and how would they help your new moon desires?   When you quiet your brain and reflect and meditate---what actions does your inner self tell you to take?

Special Focus

6/4: Mars/Neptune: Actions versus religion: Anger at crazy people and boozers.

6/6:Jupiter enters Aries (see above)

6/7: Mars enters Virgo: Daily schedules get highly energized.  Obsessing on actions. http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/marsinsigns.html

Balsamic Moon Phase

June 8

5:13pm

Balsamic:  We release.  We let go.  We prune, we discard, we ditch stuff. We house clean. The things that no longer work, we let them out of our life.  We release so we can clear our unconscious and dream.  We prepare our unconscious to be ready for the next

Focus on

We release stubbornness, we release controlling everything, we release greed, we release the need to be territorial.  What price do we pay for money?

Special focus:

6/8:  Mercury/Saturn:   Sharp mental faculties.  Our brains support the things we are doing to build a better daily life.   We do triage on our schedules.

6/10: Mercury enters Gemini http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/mercuryinsigns.html

6/10: Mercury/Uranus:  We are quick and creative. The dynamic energy inspires us.

6/10: Mercury/Jupiter:  How are your thoughts guiding you to new horizons?

6/11: Mercury/Mars:  How are your actions NOT matching your thoughts?
