Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about   What does the circle of people you hang with say about you?   Have you grown?  Are you lonely?  Now is the time to step up your actions and find your place in community.

Now---Welcome to Aquarius New Moon and its 29- day lunar cycle.    In order to understand this cycle, it is first important to ask a few questions:

What is your place in your community?   

Who is your community?  

What is your participation in humanitarian causes?   

How do you interact with others?  

Have you found your like-minded group? 

What is your participation in social media?   

How are you finding your independent voice?  

How are you finding your weirdness?  

Who receives your friendliness and who does not? Why?

 Where are you using logical and detached thinking rather than emotion?   

…..And more important than all---how have the answers to the above questions changed, morphed or transitioned since December 21^st?

Two days before the new moon cycle, the moon enters Aquarius which then activates a stellium (meaning more than four planets in one sign).   Between Feb 9 and Feb 11 there will be six planets in Aquarius.  The last time we had this stellium in Aquarius was 1962.   At the risk of stating the obvious, we are in an Aquarius-on-steroids cycle.   However, we need to pull back a bit to understand the bigger picture.  

On December 21^st, Jupiter and Saturn came together at zero degrees of Aquarius for the first time since 1405 launching a new, two-hundred-year cycle. Because Aquarius is an air sign ( Gemini and Libra the other two air signs) it connects to thoughts and abstract thinking.  This cycle speaks to new ideas, coming together for new technology, new structures and common ideals.   It can bring brilliance and renegade responses.  Sorting through those actions is the tricky part.   

On the global level, the conjunction in December set the environment for people to wonder about a lot of  things and in particular given Aquarius is the ruler of technology that means we are thinking about social media, Internet, computers, TV, radio and cell phones (to name a few).   During this cycle, we all will be taking moments to figure out where we fall on how we use technology.  Do we use it to connect with others?  Do we use it for common good?  Or something else?  No doubt, historians of astrology will write of the conjunction and the hostile protestors who took control of the USA Capitol on January 6, many who used social media for their planning, execution and later to broadcast their actions.     

Now six weeks since the conjunction, we have this Aquarian New Moon and six planet stellium.   Do you think the Universe is telling us to find our Aquarius?  Apparently yes, the chart for the new moon has Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn all chain linked together. Leading up to the New Moon there is tension caused by Moon square Mars which can bring frustrations where we may feel blocked and angry.  Luckily a few hours later Venus forms a conjunction with Jupiter softening and expanding our ability to find love.  Perhaps we are snarky and tense but then later feel remorse and apologize for our lack of kindness.  Then we get the New Moon and a fresh perspective.   Consider what came up on the 10^th and early morning of the 11^th before the New Moon  launched.  Perhaps it showcases where you need the brilliance and innovative energy of Aquarius.  It is also worth noting that alcoholics anonymous speaks to Aquarius energy and there may be help for some in one of the many 12 step programs that exist online and in person.   This may be the 29-day cycle where some finally seek help.   

Speaking honestly, I find it difficult to talk to people about Aquarius because the very things that are ruled by Aquarius are often marginalized.   Helping other people can be framed with pejoratives like ‘do-gooders’.  Coming together for a greater cause is weakened by those who stress “family first” as if there are only binary choices.  Joining a group is met with cynicism or suspicion. New technology brings out complaints.    After 40 years practicing astrology, I am well aware that people want to talk about their personal wealth, love and family.  I am not suggesting none of that is important but at the same time it is glaring that there are issues in the local and greater communities that need solutions.  Those solutions will come from a strong engaged community.  The astrology for at least the next two years while Saturn is in Aquarius and to a certain extent the next five years while Uranus is in Taurus is that we as citizens of the world will should try to find our place in our community and address issues with a practical and innovate eye.   Not just for the community but also because there is a need within us to be bigger than self.   We are in different territory. 

One aspect that is important to this new moon and this cycle is the first round of the only major aspect for 2021.  Saturn square Uranus  occurs three times:  Feb 17, June 14 and Dec 23.    This aspect set up constraints and lessons.  It is not a feel-good aspect by any definition.   There are those who will want to lay down the law or snip power and there will be others who will bristle at being told what to do.   How these manifests, is still unclear but we know it involves humans coming together (Aquarius) and among others, money, things that are owned, real estate and established practices (Taurus).   Last week when the Reddit day traders decided to take on investors who were shorting the stock Game Stop and caused major losses for big hedge funds,  my friend Ann called me up and said, “Well that’s perfect Saturn square Uranus.”  I agreed.     A few days later a woman in Myanmar, who is a gym teacher set up her usual aerobics class and videotaped it unaware there was a coup taking place behind her.    It was all insane and unpredictable which are perfectly Uranus and Aquarius.   We are in cuckoo days.  Got it. 

Mercury  Retrograde Mercury Direct 

While there is much Aquarius energy that will energize our thinking, we are constrained by the Mercury retrograde.  Mercury the planet of thoughts is retrograde on the new moon chart and that will hold some of our big ideas in check.  It does not mean we won’t have good ideas or be inspired in new ways, but we may need more information before jumping on the ideas.   Research any idea for the rest of the retrograde period.  Then when Mercury turns direct on Feb 20 you will have more information to go forward with your plans.   Repeating what was in last month’s report, in general, this Mercury retrograde in Aquarius emphasizes the groups of people we like to associate.   Covid has certainly stretched our way to be with one another but we may also feel like we have grown tired of our circles and are looking for new peeps or new experiences and new thinking. We may be searching for new groups.   Like all good Mercury retrogrades we should learn something about our communication skills and our ability to pivot our thinking.   Maybe we need to share some insights that will help our friends.  Especially for those people who have remained mute on important topics.    The Mercury Retrograde dates are the following:

January 15 Mercury enters shadow 

January 30 Mercury station retrograde 26 Aquarius 29

February 20 Mercury station direct  11 Aquarius 01

March 12 Mercury exits shadow 

Double check facts and above all—especially with Mercury in Aquarius --watch your social media activity.   Do NOT forward anything unless you have double checked its accuracy.  Spreading gossip in 2021 is the biggest No-No.   Super no.   Between the air sign retrogrades and the eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius we must monitor our activities and not be a participant or amplify lies.  Consider setting the record straight.  

In conclusion, this Aquarius lunar month is very important as it will start to focus us on what we want going forward after Covid has settled and how we circulate in our community.   For many people who are lonely it is a good time for them to figure out their place in the world.   I would argue there is a hole for many people who have been either too afraid or disconnected from humanitarian pursuits and now they need to begin the process of deciding are they in or are they out of humanity?

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:   Where are your big ideas?  Who supports those big ideas?  Who are the people you connect with on big ideas?  How are you interacting with your community at large?  Where are you reaching out to others to brainstorm practical solutions?  Why do you marginalize the power of friendships and groups?  How can you reach into more circles?  

Special note:

2/12:  Venus conjunction Mercury.  Gentle but curious conversations.  Speaking our values that connect to community and friends. 

2/14: Mercury conjunction Jupiter.  Big ideas, expansion of thinking, exploring community.  New technology.  

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking tickets.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are learning about your ability to be independent?  What are you learning about going your own way?  What are you learning about the power of pursuing something new?  What are you learning about your self-starting abilities?

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that speak to your communication abilities?  What actions are you taking that engage community and neighbors?  What actions are you taking that interface with siblings?  How are your actions mixing it up bringing in new information?

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  How are you refining or using discretion with family?  How are you sifting through your roots?  What have you neglected with your emotions?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

What are your routines saying about your values?  What is going on with your health routines?  What actions are taking up a lot of your schedule?

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your ability to negotiate? How are you sharing your skills of finding balance? How are you sharing and teaching values in relationships?

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

What actions are you taking that broaden your world?  What actions are you taking that are generous?  What actions are you taking that bring in things that are ‘foreign’?   What actions are you taking that are rooted in truth?  How are your opinions working for you and against you?
