Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?   Being of service through the heart and not being a burnt out Roomba.

Welcome to the Virgo New Moon.   Virgo leans into the power of discernment.   It can note small details that others may miss.  Here in the northern hemisphere, we are in the waning days of summer, hot and muggy may continue to rule the day but Virgo notes a cool breeze here and there and knows that fall is near.  Below the equator, Virgo notes winter is ending its long season with moments of sunshine and breaks in the clouds.   When we take a moment and note the details, we get informed.   This is Virgo. 

During Leo we were big, our ideas were large our hearts were generous.   Now in Virgo we pull it way back because all those big ideas in Leo only work if there is practical application.   Practicality is what Virgo brings to our lives.  During the Virgo lunar cycle we look at our daily life and schedule.  Our habits and routines get fine-tuned.   We launch diets, we see doctors, we are about maintenance, both things and bodies.  We finish tasks and take care of loose ends.  We build budgets, we clear desks of ridiculous paperwork.   We take things to be fixed.   We see the stuff that is broken that maybe has not bothered us until now and now we address it.  We help others in a practical way.   We get very measured and very exact.  We know that how we spend our hours is how we build our life and we look closely at each hour and what we are doing, plus we look at others and maybe we get a little judgy but then we go back to our work.  Our work at hand both our jobs and our personal tasks grounds us.  Virgo as the second earth sign likes to be grounded

There are many gifts that come with Virgo.   Trains run on schedules because of Virgo.   Doctors’ equipment is cleaned because of Virgo.  Books are published without typos because of Virgo.  Vitamins that boost and drugs that cure are because of Virgo.  Bills get paid and invoices are sent because of Virgo.   The daily life we know on planet earth works – because of Virgo.    I love Leo and I love Libra for all they bring to our planet, but none of it would mean anything if not for Virgo who lands in between them.     Yes, Virgo is critical as F.   Got it.   Yes, Virgo is anxious and insecure.   Yes, Virgo can be impatient when we don’t do/get/understand/respond the way Virgo thinks we should.     But at the end of the day, Virgo’s greatest gift is to be of service and when they see something broken or frayed or a mess, they figure out a way to fix it.    They want to be of help.   The problem is sometimes Virgo’s brain which is always on, is like a Roomba vacuum, spinning all over a floor, cleaning and wiping except when it gets stuck between a chair and a wall.   Then the engine burns out.    Virgo running all over slaying every nuisance is a burn out and we run that burn out risk in this 29-day Virgo Lunar cycle.     Big time.   

To understand the astrological environment that we are in during this Virgo lunar month and why we need to guard against being a burnt-out Roomba, we must pull out wide and talk about Mars.   

Mars influence 

Just after the 29-day Virgo cycle ends, Mars will station retrograde in the sign Gemini (Oct 30).   Mars can’t control itself and it is going to cause a lot of drama when it is retrograded between October 30 and January 12^th.     Straight up messiness.   It will be challenging to say the least, but this Virgo New Moon gives us some insight on how we will be or where we are headed during the Mars retrograde.  We should take what we learn now, bumps and victories and remember them for the Mars retrograde.   

There are two reasons why we need to think about Mars in Gemini during this Virgo 29-day cycle.   Reason one, Gemini and Virgo are both mental signs and both are ruled by Mercury.  One is an air sign (Gemini) and one is earth (Virgo) but they both activate the brain.   Thinking, talking, nervous brain stuff is pronounced for both Gemini and Virgo.   Both are smart and clever, but both can lose the forest for the trees.    Gemini starts things it doesn’t finish, and Virgo gets lost in rabbit holes.    When Mars in Gemini is retrograde, we will see in the news and in our own world, evidence of shallowness and quick responses that would have benefited by people slowing down first.    We will see miscommunication and downright lying.   That is why we need to use Virgo lunar month to figure out how to discern fact from fiction and how to declutter our brains and our schedules.   Which leads us to reason two, on this new moon chart, the Sun and Moon in Virgo are squaring Mars in Gemini.     Sigh.  

There will be grassfires for everyone to either see or experience in the next 29 days.   Little bits of chaos that will need attention and fixing.    Squares are pushy so during this 29-day cycle we may feel cornered to go one way, Mars in Gemini or another way, Sun/Moon in Virgo.   Mars in Gemini will want us to pivot very quick. Lean into abruptness and just ‘do it’.    Sun/Moon in Virgo will want us to get one more fact, one more detail.  Perhaps moving fast is not the answer or perhaps one more fact finding will snooze and lose us an important opportunity.     Finding the place in the middle will be challenging.   But finding it and learning from it will be critical later when Mars is retrograde.

In the Libra Lunar report, we will discuss Mars trine Saturn, which occurs twice and Mars square Neptune which will be happening times.   Both are important to the astrology weather of fall and winter.   In the meantime, watch what comes up after September 3 when Mars enters the shadow for the retrograde.  It should be informative.    Remember above all, BREATHE.

Because the Universe has a sense of humor, adding more to our brains, Mercury will be retrograde for three weeks in the 29-day Virgo cycle.    Sure.  

Whenever Mercury retrogrades, we know it is important to take a moment.   Slow down our thinking and our communication.  Think before we speak.   Most of this retrograde is in the sign Libra.  How we partner with others is up for appraisal during this Mercury retrograde.   How do we behave in partnership?  Are we snippy?  Do we cave too much?   Mercury in Libra spends a lot of time pondering fairness.  With Mercury retrograde we may need to re-think fairness.   Is it based on equity?  Or is it tit for tat?  Or is it giving up rather than true negotiating?    Mercury in Libra can unfortunately fall into passive aggressiveness.   Saying they will be there, do that, show up etc but then not.   During the Mercury retrograde there may be some who will call out lack of commitments.   At the same time others may speak of feeling pushed to do something or not feeling heard.    Curiously, Mars, is in trine with Mercury which should help the process of clarity.   Mars likes to cut through bullshit. 

Mercury in Libra will have us thinking a lot about finding balance.   How to unplug?  How to bring out the opposite of whatever is feeling too much.   If we have been going down paths for a while that are no longer satisfying the Mercury retrograde may offer up thoughts about a new path that would be worth pursuing perhaps after the retrograde.  

There are two weeks of the retrograde where Mercury will have returned to Virgo.    This will be a window where we will be looking at our schedules and assessing if they are in alignment with our values.   Virgo knows the power of doing something every day.  Is there something that should be on our daily schedule that is missing?  It might pop up between September 23 and October 2^nd.  

Mercury will oppose Jupiter three times (Sept 2, Sept 18 and Oct 12).  Partnering with others that broaden our world could be significant.   A person from another country or other politics, religion, culture.  It could be someone from our neighborhood who just has a different take or someone from another corner of our city.   Jupiter in Aries is all about independence and new roads and opportunities.   Mercury in Libra likes to share thoughts.   See what comes up between Sept 2 and October 12 that brings you with new people and thinking and how it strengthens independence.    And remember maybe it is you who is bringing the opportunity, too.  

As always, with every Mercury retrograde be thoughtful about all emails and correspondences, phone calls and social media postings.   If you can make major purchases after the retrograde that is usually smart and double check all reservations. 

In closing, Virgo is humble.  It shows up and serves.  Through this humility it connects with its heart.   This is a gift for those who are in the shadow of others.   Those who might not get the applause but have the full heart of being of service.   That is joyful. 

Things will feel very sped up this lunar cycle.  Avoiding the stress will mean using Virgo to discern what needs our attention and what needs to be ditched.   We cannot fight on every front.   No matter how much Mars in Gemini wants to get into fights, especially arguments on who knows the facts, take pause.    Pull wide and asks is it worth it?    Perhaps your time is better spent doing something meaningful and of service (Virgo) in your neighborhood (Gemini)?

Drive carefully.    

Use Virgo to tighten up your diet or put more exercise in your schedule and for sure enjoy nature.   Small little animals bring joy.   How Virgo.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     Look at your schedule.  Look at where you focus every hour of your life.  Is it building the life you want?  If not then start ditching the stuff that takes you nowhere where you want to land.  Declutter your schedule and use discernment in every action for 29 days.

8/28: Venus oppose Saturn.   Money and love feel tight.  The desire to go big for self-versus doing for others.    

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your relationship?  What are you learning about negotiating?  How are you seeking balance?   What does partnership mean to you on the granular level?

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that broaden your world?  What actions are you taking that expand your knowledge?  What moves can you make that connect you with those that are ‘foreign’ meaning different approaches, thinking, histories?   What does it mean to expand your world on a granular level?

9/4: Venus enters Virgo.  Our values are focused on what we do every day.  It is no longer just about big and joy, the love of work and daily habits.

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  What is going on with your executive abilities?   How are fine tuning your inner boss?  How are you looking at the details of what makes you a solid leader?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

How do you tap spirituality?  Where are you finding metaphysical moments?   What is your inner humanitarian telling you?   What does faith look like on the granular level? 

Special focus 

9/11: Sun trine Uranus.  Creativity comes from out of the blue.  Leaning into the weird and odd could be the most practical solution.

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your practical skills?  How are you showing dedication and focus?  How are sharing an ability to put your head down and keep working?   How are you showing on a granular level what it means to build something from the ground up?

9/16: Venus square Mars.  Love and money versus shallow satisfactions.   

9/16: Sun oppose Neptune.  Illusions.  Fantasy versus the grind.   Finding balance.

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”
