When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?    How often do you zig and your partner zags?    Do you think it is time for you to Zag?

Treasure Map Check In 

We are halfway through the lunar year.   We’ve completed Aries through Virgo and now we begin the journey of Libra through Pisces.   For those who made a Treasure Map at the Aries new Moon (and great American Eclipse) please pull out your map and assess it.  Note any manifestations.   Are there big results?  Are there buds of growth?  What still needs to be realized?  

Last week I had a conversation with an astrologer who made a Treasure Map, and she said that for the first four months, she thought her map was going backwards and doing the opposite of her goals.   Now in the last month, she noticed the goals are starting to take shape in ways she had not expected.    She said, “I think the eclipse at Aries was some kind of time tunnel. Where things were kind of weird and then they all of the sudden happen.”   I agreed with her.  My own map has had an odd journey this year where it did kind of feel like the scene in Back To The Future, when the car shifts backwards, then with a jerk it powers into warp speed.   Some manifestations showed up suddenly and in a manner I did not expect.  

We, of course, have six months for more map manifestations.   We should take this new moon to look at our map reflect how close or far we are from our goals.   Then consider that this eclipse may have fresh insights.   You may stimulate the goals of the map in a new manner.   Try to remember that fire in your belly when you constructed the map back in April.  Gosh knows your map remembers your energy and perhaps it is waiting for you to check in?   On this eclipse it might shift to ‘warp speed ahead’.    

Welcome to Libra New Moon and Solar Eclipse 

This 29-day Libra cycle and new moon is about balance and looking at our relationships.  Not just our spouse or significant other but it includes the person (s) who helps us with the tasks that we can’t do alone.  Relationship is that space between us and the other, whom we do our one-on-one work.  This is the landscape of Libra. 

Libra is our muted.  Libra does not hang out in extreme.   Libra is where we show sensitivity.  It is where we welcome hearing perspectives, or ‘sides’.   It is where are diplomatic.    Libra’s ruling planet is Venus, and she does not seek to be harsh or rough.  Venus seeks peace.  She seeks joy and beauty.   Where we have Libra in our chart is where we want to get along.   The dark side of Libra is an aggressive need to partner.  A fear of being alone so great that they will take any partner.   Hell-be-damned if the partner is not an ideal choice.    Or Libra is so malleable to the whims of others that you forget where you end, and others begin.   Libra can have a peace- at- any- cost misguidedness.  The Libra new moon is near the south node and is an annular eclipse.  This eclipse is connected to the Aries lunar eclipse from April 8^thwhere we leaned into personal identity and self-agency.   Now on the Libra eclipse we bring a fresh personal authenticity to relationships.  

Eclipses are full of energy shifts and often they open and close doors.  In ancient days, eclipses were watched by astrologers as they often foretold the death of king or crop failures.   In modern era, we see around eclipse dates, big news stories that speak to the sign.   In this case we may see stories that speak of imbalance.  A story that feels ‘unjust’ may get our attention.  There can also be a feeling of imbalance in our personal lives.  We may do an action we do all the time but now it feels fake.   The key to this 29 day cycle is to find authenticity, be truthful and respond through a balanced heart and mind and try a diplomatic path.    At some point there may be value in taking responsibility for any inequity in your relationships.  How have you been zigging so that the other person can zag?  Is your zigging and their zagging, still working for you?    What was you’re your role?  Sure, the other person is in the mix but since this is our last eclipse in Libra (for about twenty years) shedding off behaviors that no longer work for us in relationships can be very helpful.   Releasing old relationship patterns can be scary but also can be liberating.   The final eclipse in the two-year Aries-Libra cycle will be March 29, 2025.   Once that is completed, we will fully be in the Pisces/Virgo cycles and acting on those lessons.   Make the most of this Libra cycle! 

Note:  This eclipse is also connected to last year’s October 14 eclipse which arrived a week after the attack in Israel.   Relationships, partnership and alliances were broken and strengthened on that eclipse.   Will there be a revisit of the conflict on this eclipse?   Will there be an opportunity for peace?  Will there be accelerated conflict?  Is there finally a meaningful place for diplomacy and other parts of the world?   Much to consider.   

The chart of Libra New Moon 

 On this eclipse chart, the Sun and Moon conjunct Mercury (exact on September 30) which suggests that our brains are in the ON switch for 29-days.   We will be attracted to a lot of conversations, and we will be thinking about the ‘grey’ area between dark and light.  What does it mean to not be in the far left or far right?  What does it mean to find middle ground no matter what the subject.  Adding a layer of anger is Sun on 10/14 squaring Mars in Cancer and Moon square Mars 10/2. Which brings sharp warring tension.  Everything feels like a battle zone from standing in line, finding a parking spot and of course in real global political conflict zones.  Also, on the chart on with Mars in Cancer square Libra Mercury (exact Oct 5) which brings sharp tension and a sharper tongue.  Mars in Cancer can create a big wave of emotions that when they crash on us, we want to act right in that moment.   Snappy answers could cut to the bone.  Verbal sparring could be high. 

Luckily, Venus, the ruling planet of Libra is in a harmonious trine with Saturn (Oct 4) and Mars (Oct 8) This grand trine brings structure and harmony to Mars which softens harsher instincts of the warrior planet.   Yes, immediate action could be the correct response, but Venus reminds Mars, that over-the-top behavior may not be necessary.  And Saturn Trine Mars (Sept 29) puts a patina of practicality to Mars impulses.    Saturn in Pisces and Mars in Cancer working together in a trine during a Libra lunar month is the ability to set strong boundaries, bring out creativity and tap intuition for self within relationships.    We have confidence to share our emotions with our partners in a new manner.  

Mars 

Last month we discussed Mars retrograde in December.    Mars who is typically in a sign for five weeks is in a sign for seven months during a retrograde.   This year Mars stations retrograde in Leo and goes all the way back to 17 degrees of Cancer.   On October 4, during the new moon phase, Mars crosses the shadow at 17 Cancer The shadow is the point that Mars will return to when it turns direct in February 2025.   We will be covering a lot of ground between now and Feb and then again between Feb and April when Mars exits Cancer.  Given the Mars square the new moon chart and the shadow point launching in the New Phase we should pay close attention to any skirmishes that come up (both in the world and our personal lives) during this 29-day lunar month.   We could revisit some of these squabbles and tension ( or their themes) between now and when Mars leaves the Leo shadow in May.  

As indicated above, Mars in Cancer is all about EMOTING especially actions based around home, family and childhood.  Memories are pronounced, emotions are peak, and sensitivity is great.  Some of us will feel protective and put up a big old hard shell (remember Cancer is the crab) others will use pinchers and do a lot of snapping (Cancer has claws).    Of course, there is a possibility that many of us have outgrown our shell.  There could be patterns, behaviors and habits that are not serving us and during this lunar month (with a Libra eclipse) we have a skirmish and realize something inside us has changed.  We may sense we have outgrown something.   Will we let our shell crack? 

Next month Mars enters Leo on the Scorpio New Moon, and we will talk about that Mars learning area  in the next report.  Which includes on November 3, the first of three rounds of Mars oppose Pluto.  This is very potent and could suggest some very big drama.   Given its proximity to the USA election it may be in the mix in some manner.

Pluto Station Direct

This is by far, in my opinion, the signature astrological event of the month and year.  

At the risk of hyperbole (although it is worth the risk) we should anticipate something big around this date.   Back in 2008, Pluto had retrograded into Sagittarius then in September it stationed direct and headed for Capricorn.   Within a week of turning direct, the stock market crashed and launched the worldwide grand recession.  “Oh, Pluto in Capricorn you really aren’t subtle, are you?”     

So here we are now, 16 years later and Pluto is doing the exact same thing. It is stationing direct on October 11 and heading for a fresh sign where it will be for a long time.   Along the way on October 22 the Sun in Libra will square Pluto in Capricorn for the final time until Pluto returns to Cap in 240+ years.   Libra is about diplomacy and finding a way to listen to others and hear different perspectives.  Pluto in Capricorn is all about power in big business, big government and big agencies and does not usually care about other people’s opinions.  This is a rub.  

How will Pluto get our attention?   Earlier this year we got a taste of it.  The microchip in the brain announced in January, the battle around TikTok, AI, blue screens of death with a poorly designed software update, airplane and flights were in the news and sure always the UFO talk. ????     New versus old, then old versus new, there is so much to contemplate in the Aquarius leaving Capricorn landscape.  On November 19, Pluto will re-enter Aquarius where it will be for twenty years so we should anticipate another noisy event perhaps around innovation, tech, big thinking societal groups, electricity, power lines, computers, the internet, broadcasting, aviation and social media.   However, never lose sight that Saturn is the original ruling planet of both Capricorn and Aquarius.  Somewhere in all the mess, is Saturn and his divine timing (especially in Pisces) probably saying, “Bless this mess.”

Every year Jupiter retrogrades for about 4 months.  Jupiter is known for its many favorable qualities.   It is a planet of generosity, it is optimistic, it is good nature and enjoys a good laugh.  A King throwing a party for the kingdom is very Jupiter.  However, the not-so-good characteristics of Jupiter are doing things overboard, biting off more than it can chew and a bigger than life-ness that can overwhelm self and others.  It is also opinions that are loud and boisterous and can be off putting not just in their opine but also in style.  Luckily, we get the yearly retrograde to straighten out the not-so-good parts of Jupiter.   

During these four months we can edit our indulges.   Given Jupiter is in Gemini this retrograde can be focused on lies, misinformation and dot connecting that makes NO sense.   Rambling conversations that go nowhere and shallow judgements will also be up for review.   There may be a craving for conversations (Gemini) around beliefs (Jupiter) but opinions that don’t line up with beliefs could need a tune up.   During the retrograde we go down to the facts to figure out our truths.    

Warning to all:  Before you share something on social media— double check if it factual.   If it is not, it is a lie or it is gossip which is of course Gemini’s weak sauce.  

By the time we get to February when Jupiter stations direct and is at the degree it was on October 9, we will have all learned a lot about how we think and what informs our beliefs.  Once Jupiter exits the shadow in March, we will see some new territory and together we will say, “Phew, glad that is over.”

Note:  As Jupiter retrogrades it will head for the second square with Saturn on December 24.   All fall, Jupiter and Saturn will get between 6 and 8 degrees of each other.  Not exact but for mundane astrology they are close.  Of course, this is all during the time that Democracy is on the ballot in the most important election in the USA since 1860.   Jupiter is the ruler of the USA chart, so this election will speak volumes on the direction of the USAs future.  

On the personal level, for additional insights, think back to 2012-2013 during the last period where Jupiter was in Gemini.  What was going on with you then?   There may be a revisit of themes from that period. 

Finally, the day after Jupiter stations retrograde, JPL will be launching Europa Clipper who will investigate Jupiter’s icy moon.

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  No matter how mundane it arrives, consider it as message.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about things that are ‘foreign’?  What are you learning about judgements?   What are you learning that speaks to international matters?  What are you learning that speaks to higher education and journalism?

Focus on:   What actions are you taking that impact your career?  What actions are you doing that speak to your place in the world?   What actions can you take that tap strong systems like government agencies?  Or big business?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us. There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:   How do we find self in the middle of our relationships?  How do we connect with self-agency?   How do your actions conflict with what is going on your inside?  How can you be authentic and tap faith when things get bumpy?

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full moon and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:   How are you sharing your ability to pivot?  How are you sharing your ability to connect dots? How are you sharing your ability to communicate?  How are you sharing your ability to find what is current?
