Sabian Symbol: A gold rush

Key word: Ambition

“When positive, the degree is instinctive self dedication to the unseen potentials of everyday existence and when negative, a lack of practical discrimination and an irresistible desire for easy money”

What is a New Moon?

A new moon is when the moon is between the sun and the earth and the illuminated part of the moon is very small.   Technically, when you look up in the sky you only see a small, skinny section of moon.

And the not so technical point of view?

Well, similar to farmers and indigenous people, who have used the different phases of the moon for eons, Astrologers also utilize the different phases of the moon.  Certainly on the New we know it is time to plant seeds.  But the other seven phases are equally important.

Where should my focus be during this next 28-day cycle?

Release the old in order to receive the new.  The trick of course is determining what is ‘old’.

Ashes to Ashes

There is no other way to say it so I am going to cut to the chase, “Welcome to the new world” are you ready?

What we have now in front of us is an awakening.  Maybe rude, maybe not, but certainly an awakening.   There are some astrologers describing the period we are entering as an amazing opportunity for real breakthroughs and solutions.  There are also astrologers who will tell you that there is a whole lot of crap coming down and after it arrives, there will be more.  Me?  I think both are both correct and that they are not mutually exclusive.   A lot of stuff is happening and some of it is not nice but there will be solutions ----eventually.

What I think is lucky is that key components for this “Great Awakening” will begin in this Scorpio Lunar cycle.  This might seem counterintuitive since many people are scared of Scorpio and consider it dark and secretive and in charge of all things that go bump in the night.  True.  But not only is Scorpio all things scary it is also the sign of death and rebirth.  Scorpio understands that out of the ashes the phoenix will rise.  Remember that imagery because something will be reborn.  Of course we have got to get to the ashes and even though many of us would like to think that we’re in the ashes now, the truth is we are not there yet.

Saturn opposes Uranus

November 4 2008, Feb 5 2009, September 15, 2009, April 26, 2010, July 26, 2010---

November 4: 18 Virgo 58 ---18 Pisces 58

Sabian Symbol: “A swimming Race”  keyword: Elimination  --

Sabian Symbol: “A master instructing his pupil” Keyword: Elucidation

In previous new moons we have discussed that there are several astrological aspects building in the next few years that are going to get our attention.  One of those aspects is Saturn Oppose Uranus.  The last time these two planets were opposed to one another was between, 1965-1967.   At that time, Saturn was in Pisces and Uranus in Virgo, now we have the opposite, Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces.  So, same crowd, but different results.  Take note of those years, 1965-1967 was a rebellious time, the anti war movement was heating up, along with equal rights and anti discrimination protests.  Martin Luther King marched on Selma.  Can you feel the echo from those times now?  Unresolved issues from that time will experience movement now.   But notice that there are four more dates between 2009 and 2010.  Clearly, the troubles don’t end on November 4, if anything they begin.  I think for all of us, we need to manage expectations.  So, get your head around the idea that we will have troubles come up, be processed, then new ground will be taken, we settle down and then another trouble comes up and we process it, it settles down and then more trouble arises and the pattern continues until the big culmination in July 2010 when the final aspect will take place in Aries and Libra.  Also at that time Saturn and Uranus will make tough aspects with Pluto/Jupiter/Mars and Venus.  It will be a very stormy period, but before we get into the business of predicting trouble in the summer of 2010 we need to first deal with the matters at hand.

Where Uranus goes, trouble breakthrough follows

As you can see the first date of Saturn/Uranus opposition is November 4, 2008 and most of us are already feeling it—namely fear.

Uranus in Pisces brings up all of our fears.  It makes us look backwards and shudder at some of our choices.  It is the wreckage of our past. And when we look backward we are so afraid we will repeat those mistakes again.  Or we will get caught with our pants down.   Then, Saturn in Virgo is how we work and how we serve each day.  It is out schedule.  It is what makes us stop and put our nose to the grindstone.  It is our inner worker bee.   And there is a nervous energy that accompanies Saturn Virgo.  We are afraid we will be so busy managing our calendar that we will miss the big picture and—get caught with our pants down.  See a theme?

Uranus in Pisces is tumultuous, fast and unexpected.  And in one fell swoop it can cut a large swath of victims.  Uranus moved into Pisces in 2003, and if you don’t have your score card, let’s go over the list of victims since ‘03.  We have had Tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and tornados, some of the worst on record.  Then there are the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and a thing called Darfur.

There are also issues not as dramatic but still troubling.  Pisces rules oil and Virgo rules farms, we have gone from being in the business of growing food for the table into growing product for fuel (Corn & Soy).  Expect this opposition to bring more discussions about our agricultural policies but the impetus for those talks could very well be food shortages.  And it is not limited to the United States.  The whole world could be experiencing major food shortages including first world industrial countries.

Of course there have been some perks to Uranus in Pisces.  Global relief, global organizations like Kiva which distributes Microloans is a ball out of the Uranus in Pisces Park.  Additionally, there is little village in Africa, Asia or some far away island where a local doctor can turn on his computer and hook up to a doctor in Philadelphia who then advises him how to treat his patient.  And at the same time the new ways of cyber communication, blogs, emails, and amazing cell phones are all very Uranus in Pisces—they keep people tied together more than anyone would have guessed.  “Gee, I had no idea Aunt Lily was so easy to text!” This too is Uranus in Pisces.

On a personal level, Uranus in Pisces opposing Saturn in Virgo is making a lot of people re-evaluate their dreams.  If Pisces is anything first, he is a dreamer but Virgo carries a lot of sharp pins and can burst a dream bubble quicker than you can say “Dow Jones”.  How many people have come to realize that the dreams they have been building towards are no longer available?

And even if you did not lose thirty percent of your nest egg during October’s crash, chances are you got hit in some other way.  No one likes to see their house go down in value or their career start to dry up.  This opposition is impacting us all.

As we build towards November 4 and the next Uranus/Saturn date in Feb, a lot of us are going to come to terms with a lot of broken dreams.  Whether it is relationships, health, money, children, education, home, traveling or career moves, we are going to feel a dream crack and shatter.  I know it is hard.  I feel it too, but truly if you want to get on the right side of this dance, you should quickly put everything into one of two categories.  Category Number One, “This is the thing I’m working on.”  And Category Number Two,   “This thing is not going to happen and I’m moving on.”   You will find that everything in your life will fit one of these categories.  And if it is in neither, it is probably causing you some struggle or pain.

Additionally, do not be surprised if many of you feel lonely.  Or if not lonely, you feel you are alone.   There is a difference.    It might not be an overwhelming feeling but it could show up on days and surprise you.  We have been searching our soul while Uranus transits Pisces and having Saturn opposite in Virgo exaggerates the lonely factor.   If it gives you any comfort, we are all feeling it.  How curious to feel alone and lonely and know that billions of others on this planet are also feeling it.

Casa Blanca

Of course, even the most sober astrologer must take pause that the first Saturn/Uranus hit is the same date as the American Presidential Election.  What will this mean?  I’m not sure.  Perhaps this aspect is what it takes to manifest the first African American President of the United States.  Surprising, unusual, out of seemingly nowhere we are doing something that many Americans never thought would happen in their life time.  Is this what Uranus in Pisces is telling Saturn?   Perhaps.   But what if there is another unusual level to the election and the votes in the booth don’t add up?  What if there is something fishy and the status quo, ruled by Saturn, returns to power.  Will Saturn tell the agent of change, Uranus, “Not so fast?”  Perhaps.  But the fallout will not be pretty.  The American People can read polls and they will not take anything at face value.  Also there is a possibility that Saturn can delay the election.  For what it’s worth the President can halt an election in the event of a national crisis.  Is that something we should expect?  In this Uranus/Saturn climate anything is possible.

Then what if Barack Obama, the change President finds himself trying to save the status quo, like Wall Street or something a wee bit more important like the Federal Reserve?  Or what if President Obama helps dissolve the War in Iraq and Afghanistan but find himself signing an executive order to send troops to Pakistan?  These are the things we cannot know at this time.  All we know is that for the next two years the Planet of Change is at odds with the Planet of Status Quo.

It is worth noting Uranus in Pisces is loaded with nut jobs.  A nut job, without a job is a job unto itself.  Hopefully, there will be people in place to make sure nut jobs are contained.  We certainly don’t need a nutcase making a statement.  They cause too much pain; e.g. Timothy MCVeigh.

Econosize me

And then there is the economy which may be a bigger story than the color of the next president’s skin.  Since Pluto went direct on September 9th, the economy had gone south exactly as astrologers (like me) suggested it would.  Although, the speed of the tank was faster than any of us could have guessed (how perfectly Uranus in Pisces).  And of course, all of the hard work we have been doing for so many years, squirreling away dough for our future has just gone poof!  But remember this is not the end of the story.  It is the beginning.  We are no way out of the woods when it comes to the wrath of Saturn and Uranus. These two planets are long time enemies.  In the myth, Saturn was the son of Uranus and in a fit of rage, Saturn cut off the You-Know-What of Uranus and threw into the sea.  Ouch!  The myth continues that Venus, goddess of love was born out of the foamy waves with Uranus’s ding dong floating around.  So we know we’ll get something good at the end of this battle but in the mean time, the old and the new will be fighting until 2010.

And remember, because the Uranus/Saturn opposition is taking place during the Crescent Moon, we will receive information as to what these two planets are going to be saying to us for the next two years both personally and globally.

Lawyers, Guns and Money

During this New Moon in Scorpio there will be sesquiquadrate with Uranus.  On the Libra new Moon, the Sun and the Moon made a sesquiquadrate with Neptune.  At that time I said that I normally would not focus on such a small aspect but it was the only planetary aspect and therefore had more weight than usual.  The same can be said for the Scorpio New moon.  This time the Sun and the Moon will be making this annoying frustrating, somewhat limiting aspect with Uranus.  Are you seeing a theme?   Uranus begins its long opposition with Saturn and Uranus is the only planet making an aspect with the Sun/Moon on New Moon. Uranus is in the mix big time.

As we have discussed, Uranus is disruptive, rebellious, change oriented, it is the planet that likes to mess everything up. Underneath the entire 28 day Scorpio phase we are going to be feeling unrest and unease.  Something will feel disruptive.  We may welcome the invigorating energy but at the same time, it could feel chaotic.  The areas that will be subject to this disruptive energy are resources, credit, power, money, loans, laws, taxes, debt, things that are temporal (nothing lasts forever), all or nothing, penchant for destruction, sexual, controlling, secretive and crime.  If any of those issues come up for you, remember, the Phoenix, something will come out of the ashes.  And if it is not personal then I hope to god the staff at CNN is taking their vitamins, because there will be a lot of hard news stories during the next 28 days.  Yeesh.

Tune in dreamy Neptune

Curiously, as many of our dreams are shattered by Uranus in Pisces opposing Saturn in Virgo, we will receive a little perk from Neptune who is the planet of dreams.  On November 1st, Neptune will go direct after spending the last six months retrograde in Aquarius.  There will be something dissolving around us.  But in its place there will be a hint of something that is yet to come. It might not be exactly in focus but we get a hint of something.  The image that comes to mind is like a day at the beach.  When you are lying on a beach towel, in the sun or under the umbrella, the warmth lulls you into a suspended state.  Not exactly sleep because you can hear the waves crashing, the gulls squawking, the chatting of people and the faint music from receivers.  Perhaps it is slight conversation, maybe one word you hear, or one refrain from the music.  Maybe it is not exactly a word but instead the muffled voices of humanity.  This is what we can expect as Neptune turns direct in Aquarius, a little hint of a voice somewhere or a gull squawking, telling us of a change in climate or a change in the sea, not an exact picture, but a hint of something.   Tune in and see if you can find it in your personal life and the greater world at large.

It’s not a Balsamic moon, it’s a Balseismic Moon

Again, remember that I indicated I thought we should be grateful that this new era is happening during Scorpio Lunar cycle.  Scorpio understands that everything old is new again, that there is renewal when something dies.  That we all benefit when we release.  Scorpio actually rules the intestines and bowels and plumbing, that should show you how committed Scorpio is to releasing stuff.  In terms of lunar cycles, we know that the balsamic moon is the phase of the moon that is where we release.  It is the phase that is the darkest, just before the new is born.  It is the most perfect phase to go to a sauna or a steam and release the toxins.   Now, I ask you, what does it tell you that during this balsamic, release moon, we find two major planetary energies making big moves?  If you can add one plus one, then you know if we want to fully access these new energies then you need to release.  Do whatever you can on the balsamic moon to not hold on to anything.  I don’t mean throw the baby out with the bathwater, but if you are nervous, hyper controlling, micromanaging, yelling and shouting, you are missing the point of these two energies.  You would be better served to take a deep breath and reflect upon-----

Pluto enters Capricorn

November 26, 2008 - 2023

5:02pm PST

For those of you who have been reading these New Moon articles then you know we have been preparing ourselves for this Pluto move for some time.  Although, it is hard to actually prepare for Pluto because it is the planet of extremes and when it makes a move it is far reaching and quite intense.  But we have learned that it is better to get out of the way of Pluto and work with it, then fight it.

Early this year Pluto moved into Capricorn for a couple of months, but then it retrograded back and it is now moviong into Capricorn where it will stay for some time.  Let’s go over the basics again.  Pluto stays in a sign anywhere between 14 and 20 years.  For the last 14 years Pluto has been in Sagittarius.  I am a Sagittarian so I can say this authority, that Sagittarius is Over-the-Top.  It is big and loud and opinionated.  It rules the media and news and things that are foreign.  It rules religion, sports and judges.  No surprise we began Pluto’s move into Sag with the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and we are ending the period with OJ going to jail.  While Pluto was in Sag we had Columbine, 9-11, steroids, the adoration of celebrities, the rise of the common man (reality TV) and news channels infiltrating our lives with the same subtlety as the bulls running in Pamplona.  And there is Wall Street.  Sagittarius does not rule Wall Street, but Pluto does!  And while it has moved through Over-the-Top Sag, the Dow Jones reached ridiculously heights.  In short, while Pluto went through Sag it received a yearly dose of steroids making everything bigger and bigger, noisier and noisier, more and more extreme.   Everything Pluto touched was huge.  How Sag!

And now Pluto is entering Capricorn where it will stay until 2023. (And not a minute too soon, in my mind.)  We will all hear and feel the great constricting sound almost immediately.  Actually, the whistling sound of air leaving Wall Street, began when Pluto went direct on September 9th . Pluto took no hostages as it prepared to leave Sag and on that day, Fannie and Freddie imploded.  As they fell down the hole they dragged a whole lot of other issues with them.  And the mess began.

We should not expect anything to turn around quickly.   Capricorn is completely different from Sag.  Capricorn is conservative. It likes to keep its power dry. It is not full of noise, it is full of practicality.  It is a period of great frugality.  But at the same time it loves, absolutely loves to build something from the ground up.  And since Pluto likes to destroy things to the ground ( 9-11, Tsunami, Katrina) we should expect many things to crash. But in its place something new will be built.  The last time Pluto was in Capricorn was 1762-1778.  And the time before that was 1515-1532.  During both of these periods we saw some monumental changes that had long lasting effects.   The American Revolution and the seeds for the revolution were planted while Pluto was in Capricorn.  Peace was not secured until Pluto was in Aquarius and it is important to note that the French Revolution did not take place while Pluto was in Capricorn, Pluto was in Aquarius for the French peasants and their guillotines!   Phew.

During the 1500s Pluto in Capricorn, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses.  Magellan circumnavigated the globe, the Church of England broke free and Cortez conquered the Aztecs.  As you can see when Pluto travels through Capricorn things are designed, created and built that have long lasting ramifications.  What exactly would the world look like without an American Revolution?  Or Martin Luther?  Or Magellan?   Not the same, correct?   Well, that is what we are about to embark on, a journey where things are going to change and they won’t be the same when it is over.   The question is what will change, how and why?   Usually there is a crisis.   Let’s face it, George Washington and the founding fathers didn’t decide to get into with King George and his redcoats because they were bored.  There were crisis that motivated the war.  The same with Martin Luther.  He didn’t wake up one day and say, “Hmm, milk goat, eat breakfast and I know, piss on the pope.”  Nope.  There was always a reason for these changes. And there will be reasons for the new changes that take place under our watch. They won’t be subtle.  They will be extreme.  God, knows I can see a list which might benefit by some good old fashion Pluto in Capricorn—perhaps the melting ice caps?  Perhaps the broken down infrastructures all around the world (especially here in the United States) and certainly the lifestyle of the average world citizen.  How do they live their lives?   Are they able to have the basics?  And what about families?  Not to make this entirely American-centric, but is it right that people have to work this hard, be separated by families because of hideous commutes only to barely make ends meet?

Capricorn rules timing and old age, it likes to plan for things, it does not move quite so wily nily as Sag, “Hey, let’s go to Mexico today!” Nope that is not Capricorn.  Capricorn is more to likely to say, “How can I take nothing and turn it into something that is profitable and will last a long time?”

It is interesting that almost all the baby boomers will reach the age of retirement during Pluto in Capricorn.  But will they be allowed to retire?  I’m not saying there will be a sheriff forcing them out into the work force, but what if circumstances are such that the Boomers have no choice?  Isn’t it ironic that the stock market crashing right before Pluto’s official move into Cap has forced many a Baby Boomer to recalibrate their own future?  Perhaps the bigger picture is that the Boomers will serve the planet in far more significant way then if they did not take long trips to Europe or hid on their retirement property and fish every day.  The Boomers have a lot to do and say and can help the generation behind them.  Especially the generation of Boomers born in the late 50’s with Pluto in Virgo. They will be helping the Generation with ADD-HD, they understand that even if they can only focus for one hour, when those hours are added up something wonderful can be built.

Of course, people on top will fall during Pluto in Cap.  How can they not?  Remember, Martin Luther?  Remember America’s founding fathers?  They saw something in power and determined it was corrupt and they did what they could to end it.  It was not easy.  But historians are on their side and we should expect corruption to be in the news.  If things are not practical and they don’t work, the world will handle it immediately and perhaps harshly.  And our economies are one of the first items up on the butcher block.  Are they working? What are they based upon?  Is it real?  Or is it a whole lot of nothing?  How is it corrupt?   Expect swift changes.

“Oh, Uranus…what now?????”

November 27

Uranus Turns Direct

Not only is Pluto moving into Capricorn during the Scorpio Balsamic lunar phase.  But Uranus is turning direct during the last hour of Balsamic.  It is not unusual for Uranus to turn retrograde and direct, it happens every year but it is most auspicious that Uranus, which is already a huge influence on this 28 day cycle, (sesquiquadrate with the sun and moon and the opposition to Saturn on November 4th) is going to give us one more Uranian wave.

I can’t help but think this might be another seismic shift in our economic news given it happens within thirteen hours of Pluto moving into Capricorn.  But it could be something administrative, governmental, big business or something involved with infrastructure.  But, honestly, Uranus moves in its own way and manner and is very hard to predict.  So, expect our heads to turn around in whip lash as something big gets our attention.  And it might be a call back to June when Uranus went retrograde.

In summary:

I have written more on this New Moon than any moon in the last 18 months and I have probably overwhelmed many of you. But here is the deal, if you can only do one thing this month, I would strongly encourage you to meditate every day.  And when I say meditate I am not saying you must get your family out of the house, light a candle, get a rug and meditate for an hour in peace and serenity.  Unless you are a monk living on some mountaintop that would be an impossible task.  Instead, you need to be practical.  If the only time you have five minutes of peace and quiet is when you are in the shower, then that needs to be the time that you get quiet, ground yourself, settle you mind and get centered.   Every day.  Or if you can begin your day with a few handwritten affirmations, then even better. But the point is you need to make a daily habit out of grounding yourself.  By doing this you will be accessing Saturn in Virgo. Once you ground yourself, you will have a natural reaction, your antenna will go up.  You will suddenly have a thought about something and it will motivate you do something. And that something could later be fortuitous.  And that is Uranus in Pisces.   If you get stuck and feel lost, I promise you need to quiet down and meditate again and the way will show.    Hang in there. WE are all in this together.

October 29,2008

1:12 am PDT

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map but you should put out your Intent.

Focus on:  Resources, debt, sex, banking, loans, crime, elimination, extremes, all or nothing, black or white, power.

November 1 2008

Crescent

6:01 pm PDT

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things, when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket?  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: Faith, belief.  How does your spirituality influence the information you receive?  Or does it?  Play a game with yourself, what if every information you receive during Crescent is divine information?  Sent to you by your guardian angel?  Or perhaps even a bigger source?  What does it mean?  Only you will understand but just remember spirit is in the mix.

Added influences on Crescent

Influence on phase: Venus square Saturn 11/3 –restrictive, love, tight money issues

Influence on phase: Venus Square Uranus 11/3- unexpected breaks from love and money

Influence on phase: Mars square Neptune 11/4- restricted actions, inability to soldier through

Influence on phase: Saturn Opposition Uranus 11/4 (see earlier text)

Influence on phase: Venus Sextile Neptune 11/5 –love, money receives gentle pushes from Spirit.

First Quarter

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals we planted on New need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:  Groups and community.  The actions you are taking, are they far sighted?  Do they have vision?  How are actions helping the group?  Watch the conceit, watch the opinions, it is one thing to be unconventional and progressive, but to be contrarian for no other reason or unpredictable does not help your cause.

November 9,

2:27 pm PST

Gibbous Moon

Gibbous:  We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, we organize, we tend to be ‘virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on: Independence.  Focus on you.  In all the flurry of the last 10 days have you forgotten you?  What do you want to do?  What do you need to say?  In the quiet of the night, what are your instincts telling you?  Can you fold it in to the current plan?

Special influence on Gibbous:

Venus conjunct Pluto (11/12) Love and power, love of power, power of love.

Full Moon

21 Tau 15

10:17pm

Sabian Symbol: White Dove over Troubled Waters

Keyword: Guidance

“When positive, the degree is skillful reconciliation of difficulties in the light of over-all potentials, and when negative, an ineffectiveness of mind through woolgathering (spinning your wheel).

A tough moon.  This full moon will have angry mars opposite the moon and conjunct the sun. So, there are some explosive tempers. Luckily Venus will be softening Pluto so it should help ease some of the emotions. But it is going to be a doozey of a moon. If you get into it with anyone, it is better to disengage than hold your ground.   Recalibrate your energies and agree to discuss it later on disseminating moon.

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on:  Money, properties, acquiring, things, land, real estate.  What is this full moon showing you?  Where are your ruts?  How are your things?  How are your possessions and properties?  Are you prudent and cautious or are you indulgent?  If you are stuck between a rock an hard place this is the moon for you to get determined.  Your dedication can move you to the next level.

Special influence on Full phase

Jupiter sextile Uranus (11/13) Unexpected luck, unexpected foreign influence, big meets unusual

Mercury trine Uranus (11/16) Mental capacity is sharp and unique.  Unexpected thoughts lead to unexpected communiqués

Disseminating: Share information, find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge.
