Cancer New Moon– 2022

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle? 

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.  

Okay what is this cycle about?   Emotions should not slay us but guide us to and from our heart.

Welcome to Cancer New Moon.   

Treasure Mappers:  Take a moment and look at the map that you made in April during the Aries New Moon.   Notice if some of the things you placed on your map are starting to manifest.   See if there are any green shoots.  If you feel there is no action, take a breath, honor your map and trust the process.   Let’s see what unfolds in the next months.  Also, if there is anything on your map that you want to remove go ahead or you can add maybe a word or two.  However, please don’t redo your map.   A tiny tweak is okay.  

During this 29-day Cancer lunar month we will be drawn to our house, family,  along with nurturing ourselves and others.   Our needs will get our attention.   Even the people with the most stubborn, “I don’t need anyone” personas may find themselves reaching out for help.   The power of Cancer is letting our emotions do what they need to do which is ‘emote’.  Feeling our feelings is critical but collapsing under emotions is missing the point of Cancer.  Cancer is very much like the tides.   The tides roll in and then they roll out.  The grump wave in the morning may be assuaged by a simple meal or exercise, getting fresh air, or calling a good friend and having a vent.  The day, that began with frustration or anger could end with calmness or even joy.    The key is to let feelings flow.   That flow can freshen up our psyches.    

With Cancer we can be sentimental.   We can view things with a childlike sensitivity.   We look at history.   We look at our roots.  One of the gifts of Cancer is finding the tender place in ourselves.  Making that connection for us personally and then being able to connect with others from our tender lens.   My own chart has a moon in Cancer and fostering kittens is one of the ways I connect with the tender.   Even in the most intense week where I can be all mouth, I stop down to take care of kitty needs and connect to my tender.   That action ‘rights’ me.   

Of course, because Cancer is a water sign, our intuition also deserves our attention.  We may get some vibes.   Cancer rules mothering and like a mother who ‘knows’ something is going on with one of their children, that ‘mother knowing’ is within all of us whether we are a mother or not.   What is that need we have inside us?  What do our moods tell us about the need?  What does our intuition tell us?   Tapping our intuit side is valuable during this cycle.   

Amplifying the role of intuition in this cycle is also Neptune. A few hours before the New Moon, the planet Neptune will station retrograde.   Neptune spends half of every year in a retrograde motion.  The date a planet stations has a lot of punch and the fact it is happening within hours of the new moon suggests Neptune waving in and out of this 29-day cycle.  Venus is a planet of love and Neptune is the higher octave of Venus but instead of personal love, it concerns itself with the love of humanity.    Neptune can dissolve barriers.  It softens hard edges.   It reminds us that a person who we are sure is one hundred percent different from us, may in truth share common ground.  In any other time, our walls would be so high, we could never find shared interests or opinions.  But this cycle with pronounced Neptune softens our hard edges and we tap the value that comes with connecting on common ground.    Although, one word of caution,  with Neptune we will benefit by keeping our feet on the ground.  Getting lost in booze, drugs, fantasy, or conspiratorial rabbit holes is the darker side of Neptune.   If you feel yourself getting too far out there, stop down and maybe go to church, or consider prayer or meditate.  You can also play a great piece of music or see a fun film—all of that is the higher connection with Neptune.    

Two hours before the new moon the Sun squares Jupiter and about ten minutes before the new moon, it is the Moon that squares Jupiter.  Both squares bring a lot of juice to the chart.   Jupiter moved into Aries on May 10^th.   Aries is brusque.  It can be rash.  It is loud and argumentative.   It is a warrior.   Jupiter is big.   Jupiter rules judgements, philosophies, and opinions.    It is difficult to sit in the sidelines when Jupiter is in Aries.   The squares by the Sun and Moon on this New moon suggest that our emotions may connect us to the battles that need our energy.   Is there a fight for independence?  Maybe.   Or is it just a fight to express our emotions?   Is family on one side of a fight and we’re on the other side?   The tension will probably cause some fractures and sparks.   Is there a place in the middle?  Or is there a way to take the emotions and use them to build a path that provides greater freedom?”   Again, when stuck, turn to Neptune for gentle guidance. 

On July 1^st Mars squares Pluto.  The last time Mars dug into Pluto was last year on October 22.   It is not a rare aspect however with the Sun/Moon square to Jupiter on the 28^th and this Mars aspect on the 1^st, tempers could be hot.  Pluto in Capricorn can expose the cracks in all structures especially those that are supposed to protect the public good.  Mars in Aries is not comfortable in letting anyone sit on their laurels.    If emotions get hot during this window take a moment and distill it down to what is really going on.  Is it the other person or is it something inside us that is keeping us small or broken?   Maybe something broken from childhood needs our attention?  Have we given up something important to keep peace?    Intuit answers where you need them.   

USA & Pluto 

I have been discussing the USA Pluto return for years.   As we know there are three dates in 2022 where Pluto will be exactly where it was on July 4, 1776, at the signing of the Declaration of Independence.   Feb 22, July 11 and December 28.   We are approaching the second date but as I mentioned last month, because Pluto’s orbit is a bit wonky there is some debate in astrological circles about the dates being in 2022 or instead 2024.  In truth no one is getting that worked up because, well, because it is Pluto.   Pluto has a long punch.  The bottom line is that Pluto will be grinding it out in the USA for a couple years no matter what date is exact, and it already started years ago when Pluto moved into Cap in 2008.    

If USA is more juiced up and looks as if it is being rocked on its foundation in July, we look no further than Pluto return. 

Given the USA influence in the world (either pluses or minuses) it does not really matter if you are or not an American, we are all in this profound experience together.    Let’s all take a breath and watch this space.    

In conclusion, the Cancerr New Moon is asking us all to tap our feelings and use our emotions to guide our focus for 29 days.   Never stray too far from your own tender heart.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     Tap our emotions.  Let emotions and feelings flow.   What are they telling you?   How can your emotions freshen you up?  How can they tell you about changes that you need to make in your life?   

Special note:

7/1: Mars square Pluto: Abrupt actions versus deep transformation. Independence versus collected power.  Anger at status quo

7/2: Mercury trine Saturn.  Reasoned thinking.  Sharp and productive communications.  

7/2: Mercury square Neptune.  Caution of overthinking or over-romanticizing any situation.   Find sobriety in all conversations. 

Crescent Moon Phase

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your strength?  What are you learning about pride?  What are you learning about your boldness?  What are you learning about your creativity?

First Quarter Moon

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received. Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted. 

Focus on:  What actions are you taking that bring balance?  What actions are you taking that lean into family and relationships?  What actions are you taking that require negotiations?

7/8: Sun square Chiron.  Family versus Independence.   How to find emotions and agency for self-interests, even in conflicts? 

7/8: Mercury square Jupiter.  Use caution for thoughts that are too big.  Conversations that are too loud.  Thoughts that take a bridge too far.

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.  

Focus on:  What is going on with judgments?  What is going on with philosophy?   Do they align with our feelings?  Do they align with our rooted values?  What are we learning from those who live in other communities?  How are we broadening our thinking?   

Special focus

6/11:  USA Pluto return 2^nd date  (see above) 

6/12: Mercury square Chiron.   Tenacious need for independence versus old fashion thinking.  How to find the balance?   

6/12: Venus trine Saturn.  Love and responsibility.  Structured goals based on creativity, love and values.

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?  

Focus on:  

What is your role in the public?  How are you learning into your executive abilities?  How are you showing leadership?   How are you connected on a deeper level to your career?   Both the pluses and minuses?  

Special focus 

7/13: Venus square Neptune.   Creativity and self esteem feel challenged.   Cavalier actions by the ‘world’ feel personally dispiriting.

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.  

Focus on:  How are you sharing your faith?  How are you tapping those who understand spirituality and can share their best practices?    How are your connecting to those things that can’t be explicitly defined?  How is your intuition being amplified?   

Special focus:

7/17: Mercury trine Neptune.   Gentle promptings from the universe.  Tapping into intuition and kindness. 

7/17: Venus enters Cancer 

7/18: Mercury oppose Pluto.  Sharp, tough thoughts and conversation.  Emotions point out where thoughts that block transformation.  

7/19: Mercury enters Leo 

7/19: Sun opposes Pluto.  Once a year we take a moment to lean into family, childhood, emotions and see how they impact meaningful transformation.    

Last Quarter Moon Phase

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.  

Focus on How are you releasing mental chatter?  How are you releasing nervousness?  How are you releasing the lack of commitment?  How are you releasing gossip?  How are releasing contrariness?  

Special focus:

7/24: Venus square Jupiter.  Money and resources feel pinched.  Love feels threatened by big actions, big opinions.  Abrupt actions can be too abrupt.   

7/26: Mercury square Mars.  Rough, snappy, short fuse thinking and communication.
